Brad's self-analysis

"Soderberg said SLU has worked on its defense so much that it might have hurt the team's offense."

I think these slow offensive starts in the exhibition season will probably be the norm for as long as Brad is here. If you remember, he said something very similar to the above last year. Remember the 51 points put up against EA Sports last preseason, a team everybody else scored against easily?

Brad prefers to emphasize defensive drills and philosphy in these early practice sessions. The problem with this approach, IMO, is that when the exhibition season rolls around, the opposing team doesn't have to expend much energy on defense because our guard-oriented offense isn't cohesive enough to challenge teams yet. It won't be cohesive until more time is spent on it in practice, which of course Brad will.

The bigs should have dominated with their size anyway but the only guy over 6'7 with that bully mentality is Tom Frericks and he only played 12 min.

You are absolutely correct that Brad's teams seem to start slow. Two years ago we lost to Tennessee Martin and SMS. Last year we lost to EA and barely beat Eastern Kentucky.

Given this trend we need to hope that they are ready to go by the time the Pardise Jam comes around. 3 games in 4 days does not give us many opportunities for adjustments and improvement and we must come back from there no worse than 2-1.
