Some Majerus Thoughts from a Utah Fan...

Recommended Posts

I was curious how Rick was being accepted over here and after reading I thought I might be able to offer some insights. FWIW I'm a Utah fan. As for how our fanbase feels about Rick, 1/2 worship him still believe he could do no wrong and 1/2 utterly hate him. While I don't hate him, I'm glad he's gone. I think the biggest thing to wonder about is which Rick is now coaching at St. Louis, the Rick before 1998 while an ass is a coaching genius. The Rick after 1998 was a bitterman who lost his touch in recruiting, ran off stars (Including nearly forcing Andrew Bogut to quit) alienated every friend he had around the program and was essentially the reason for our collaspe in hoops.

As for that very nice recruiting class you have coming next year be aware that one or two of them won't finish. Rick ran off one or two recruits every year. Further as for the personal attacks on players on the radio, that is how Rick does business. He would spend entire radio shows attacking Keith Van Horn.

However if he's put aside some of his stuff, and you get the guy we had up until 1998, I don't know if there is a better coach in college basketball.

If there are any other questions I'll be glad to answer.

Thanks for sharing your perspective w/ us. Rickma is still in the honeymoon phase with our program despite the grumblings you read on the board following the Kent State massacre. We'll see how it goes. I hope he has mellowed since his days at Utah. Stuff like the Lance Allred situation wouldn't go down well in this town.

Rick is also the god father of Van Horn's kid. There cannot be too much hate.

No because Keith was the kind of player who thrived on that kind of thing. However it doesn't work for every one and towards the end it didn't work for almost anyone. Like I said Rick at his best understands the game better than almost anyone. I'd like to see his legacy go out on top with you guys instead of faking a heart attack and escaping into the night like he did at Utah.

I realize that first comment came off kind of rude, it wasn't meant to be. Welcome to the board and thanks for the insight.

I hope he doesn't run these guys off. I grew so tired of the Parcell's shtick when he was coach of the Cowboys. I don't need that from SLU's coach as well. We need these recruits we need to win.

"Faking a heart attack"?! I know you're new here, but that's darn near a slanderous statement!
