Sometimes the truth does not have a positive spin.

I think truth is not uniform, in other words there is no single truth that is applicable to everything. Truth varies with belief and perception and I think it is an individual concept. The variation from person to person may be minor.

Truth is not taste or likes or dislikes. I think issues like logos are more a matter of taste than truth. In other words, as has been agreed throughout history de gustibus non est disputandum.

I found that comment interesting. He isn’t going for a second masters. But he has to be enrolled in something to be eligible to play ball. I wonder why that entails….an hour online discussion course in pick and roll?  Will @billiken_roybe upset that Gibson is not a 'full time student'  😃?

You are basically saying that he is coming back as a professional player if he is not going into any kind of academic program. Interesting. Will this work with the NCAA?

To be fair, the previous logo was also really bad.

Bad brand, bad school, bad athletic program, bad fans.

I can't stand GMU. Keep up the bad work, losers.

When you have logos that are equally bad, before and after the redo, it shows that some high up someone in the administration has bad taste and does not mind about spending money.

I once took a tour of the mansions inside gated areas somewhere north of Forest Park. Some of the houses were absolutely exquisite, but there were others that were proof of the ugly things you can do with lots of money and bad taste.

  4. I will place a doubt on your heads about the stats, I hope. Let's say that a coach, like Ford, tells a player to stay at a corner to shoot 3s. If he does not do this, Ford sits the player at the bench. Do you think the stats for last season show the real potential of this particular player to block or do all kinds of other things? Of course not. Avila' s and Swope's stats for last season are reasonably valid for the coming season one because the coach is the same. Even though the other players are not, at least the stats for these two players this season should be close enough to last season because they are players under the same coach. No one else in the team will have the same stats this season with a new coach and new players, for most of the team.

We should expect different stats this season, probably very different stats because Schertz is a real coach, let's not talk about Ford any more.

To have similar stats between seasons, the conditions controlling the play (coach, other players, etc,) have to be as similar as possible, if they are not, we should not expect the stats from the past season to be applicable to the coming one.

I am looking forward to a much better coming season for the Bills, with better player stats this year.

  5. Creighton is a first class school as far as basketball is concerned, they go regularly to the Dance and they make  Sweet 16 or better level often. Given the level of basketball they play regularly, there is no surprise to find really good young players getting little playing time, there is just too much talent in that team.

  6. I think Schertz is putting together a potentially superb team. I also think he should go over the tapes of his defeat by Seton Hall at the  NIT, and the win of the NCAA tournament by UConn (for the second time in a row). I hope he might manage to combine his playing methods with the way Seton Hall played against him, and the way UConn has been playing the last 2 years. If he manages to do this successfully we might have a very hard to beat team this season.

  7. We have in the team 3 returning players that we have all seen play. The question here is not whether or not they can play, but how much they will improve under Schertz. Then we have the two from ISU both of who we recognize as key players with the Schertz system. Then we have Pikaar and McCottry, freshmen and totally unknown in terms of their play. I think that Schertz is likely to get the majority of the remaining players from the same unknown group of freshmen players. I doubt that he is going to pick a large number of well known players for this season, maybe one or two more tops.

This will show, hopefully to our total satisfaction, just how good Schertz is at both selecting players, developing them in a short time and playing them. This is promises to be a very interesting season.

    A showcase true.

Will this game help our chances to get in the Ncaas? Maybe, maybe not. Playing a 100-200 ranked team on a neutral site won't move the needle on selection sunday.

We have to schedule to get us an at large bid. A neutral site game against a middle of the road WCC doesn't do that. If Santa Clara is a top 2 team in the WCC then maybe it helps us. Otherwise I'd rather play 80-100 other teams as a true road game.

Does the committee give us extra points for this? SLU is on the bubble, but they beat a low major team in South Dakota on ESPN so lets put them in. That conversation isn't happening

One single game is not likely to make a major difference to get to  the dance. What we need is winning lots of games, and then the committee may dump us out of the NCAA tournament because they like some other school better. After all, that is exactly what they did to ISU last season.

  9. Yes, it is a 2 year old policy but it has not been changed internally, not yet anyways, despite the MO law allowing the school's NIL participation. I assume this MO law does not forbid the schools from NOT participating in NILs. SLU may or may not actively enforce the policy they have in place, but until they change their own policy to specifically allow whatever it is that is done with NILs, whoever does it is breaking SLU's current policy. SLU can use their current NIL policy to defend against any consequences or legal action resulting from NILs.

  10. I watched a lot of West Coast college basketball prior to the end of the NCAA and NIT men's basketball tournaments. It is a world of its own, they play late at night (from the point of view of the Central time zone) and they play primarily among themselves. Santa Clara is (or was during the 23-24 season) not a bad team. It will be nice to play them, and check out how good are we likely to be this coming season.

  11. I believe that a large number of MBMs believes (or wishes which for some is equal to believing) that NILs are an integral part of the recruitment process and that the Coach and the AD have some degree of control over this part of the recruitment. This is plainly not correct. I enclose a link to SLU's policy for recruitment as it applies to athletes. It is here:

    https://slubillikens.com/documents/2022/4/11/SLU_NIL_Policy.pdf

If you want to see how wrong a lot of these ideas are, please check the official SLU policy on recruiting. My understanding after reading the policy posted above is that SLU as an entity wants nothing to do with NILs. So now you know what SLU's policy about NILs officially is.

    Santa Clara???

Guess you can never turn down the opportunity to play 109th ranked team from a tiny conference on the west coast at a neutral site 8 hours from home.

I know that last season we were very bad and that we will improve under Schertz next season. We ended last season at 185 in Team Rankings and Santa Clara ended at 108. Judging by the end rankings for last year, might be a good opportunity to show how much we have improved under Schertz.
