  1. THE DAMNS ARE OPENING 10-4 BILLS
  2. What is dead may never die. But only rise again.
  3. It does, it should make for some fun baseball. Obviously we have to get through Davidson, but I'm sure the coaching staff is already making plans for a hot George Mason team.
  4. In game 5 earlier today No. 2 George Mason continued their hot play to beat No 3. Fordham 4-0. Mason will play the winner of the SLU/Davidson match up tomorrow at 11:00 Central. (All times on this thread will be posted in central time, as mentioned before, it is God's timezone.) LETS. GO. BILLS.
  5. Agreed. We keep scheduling Big East teams until Big East teams are the conference schedule. Never let the topic die. NEVER SURRENDER.
  6. No. 1 Saint Louis Billikens vs. No. 5 Davidson: 12:30 Central Time (God's Timezone). I billieve these games are all streaming live, you can find their links here. COME ON BILLS!
  7. 3 seed Fordham beat 6 seed VCU 3-2 today. Currently 2 seed George Mason is whomping 7 seed GDub 9-1 in the Top of the 6th. The Bills await the winner of 4-Richmond vs 5-Davidson tonight at 6:00 PM Central. Let's Go Bills!
  8. I would make a pretty confident bet there are as many Bills fans as Demon fans.
  9. While DePaul would not be the most attractive Big East opponent obviously, it would be a great game with a ton of SLU support in the city and for traveling STL fans. Plus, I would love to catch a game at DePaul's new arena. It looks pretty cool.
  10. I'm not sure we need to be that either, and I do believe we can be what you're aiming for before we take any the next step, but what I am worried about is the aggressiveness to strive for either. College baseball is dope. College soccer is dope. Make it more fun for the students to come out and crack beers at and the rest will follow. Kids want to cheer for their team, they're not hungry for every event to be a Bama football, they just want grass stains on their backside for going to a game. Go Bills beat Richmond/Davidson!
  11. This is well said. Its about pushing for the next piece, that's what being a business is and that's what being a fan means. Frankly, I think the "major improvements" that @billikenfan05 and I are vying for are anything but, and are ultra-realistic. SLU should market to the city harder, we should see if there is a business opportunity for being a cheaper, quality baseball alternative to the Cardinals, these are not lofty dreams, they are obtainable and measurable goals. The fact of the matter is we don't have an AD willing to put in the work. We have rested on being the plucky, lovable, local basketball schoolfor so long, its not unreasonable to push for being better.
  12. Chaifetz has May in his pocket. Why would he pay for him to leave?
  13. That is correct and it is lame but the Big East only fields 7 full time squads for Baseball. So they are actually taking over 50% of the league. Compare that to the A10 that has 13 baseball squads, only the Dukes don't field a team.; They used to play their championship games at TD Ameritrade Park where Creighton has their games, which is pretty cool. This year though it seems that the Big East tournament is being held in beautiful Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, 22 minutes away from host xavier's campus. That is not cool. If you're the Beast, you should hold hoops in the Garden and baseball in Omaha every year, no questions asked. BTW, for whatever it is worth, xavier's baseball complex looks more crap than ours.
  14. Without counting our Billichichkens before they hatch, I would love to see us end up in the Fayetteville regional. Arkansas has perhaps the best environment for college baseball there is, the outfield is open lawn seating where they allow gear to be brought in tailgating style. If the Bills end up there I will be making the drive back to my hometown (I grew up in Bentonville). It is also only a 5 hour drive from the Lou. I could also see us ending up in the Lexington regional, I suppose, good for fans who would want to watch, but I won't be making the drive from Dallas. It all depends on who is hosting. I realized an ironic thing as I was looking at the baseball bracket predictions, as much as I want to be in the Big East, and as badly as I want to see SLU baseball develop, being in the Big East would do little to nothing for hardball when it comes to at large tournament bids for the sport. Big East is as solidly a one bid league as the A10 is.
  15. 05, when the 'Fetz was being built and the AD offices were all being moved out of the Bauman-Eberhardt Center they had a fire sale on all this old gear in they found around the joint. I have a mesh Bills baseball jersey that looks exactly like these minus the new Billiken. All in all I am glad that we moved away from the famous Cardinals "STL" monogram, but I do enjoy its use every once in a while. I've also hoped that SLU would develop an unique "SLU" monogram similar to the ones that University used in its early history. I assume that the marketing department tries to steer clear of any confusing with the more famous Cards logo. I think SLU was using the "STL" logo as late as the '90s.
  16. Bills open A10 tournament play at 1:30PM on Thursday as they take on the winner of the the 4 seed Richmond vs 5 see Davidson. First round bye means the Bills need to win 4 games to take the crowns and get back to the big dance. Let's Go Bills!
  17. Not necessarily disagreeing, but I am curious at how you would assess that he "did wonders" with the basketball program... How much work can an AD do for Jayhawk basketball after having the prestige of the KU program and Bill Self (who in my opinion is the best coach in College hoops) to work with? Obviously, I agree he just couldn't do anything for the football program... KU football would be an interesting business school case study on the perils and pitfalls of big time college football. From 12 wins and a BCS appearance/win in 2007, to a win-less season 10 years later. Their facilities have to be the worst in the entirety of the Big 12, which is sad, because the way the football stadium is situated on campus is quite scenic. I would not doubt if we saw old Arkansas AD Jeff Long take that gig. Long was a football centric AD at both Arkansas and Pitt that focused on fundraising, facilities improvements, and getting the academic house in order. Long made a terrible hire with Bret Bielema but did well with the Mike Anderson hiring. Most importantly, he elevated Arkansas to having perhaps the best facilities in all of college sports when looked at from an "All-Sport" perspective. He made long overdue improvements to the aging behemoth that is Bud Walton Arena, and in 2019, Arkansas will finish stadium renovations that will give them some of the finest facilities in college football. While I have been a vocal critic of our current AD, Zenger would make me nervous for the choice of leading the Bills programs due to his background. How much does Zenger know about leading a small, private school that is geographically located in the middle of multiple State School powerhouse programs? The long term success of SLU athletics is dependent upon on AD that can differentiate us into an "Urban" athletics programs that thrives at Basketball and other secondary sports, and we can always do a better job of marketing ourselves to fans in the city who are non alums. We have seen from programs like Nova, Xavier, and Marquette that "winning" in the business of college athletics isn't about doing what the P5 programs do better, but doing something different. I'm not convinced Zenger is the right man for the job.
  18. Xavier releasing their schedule now only causes me much wailing and gnashing of my teeth because it serves as a yearly reminder that xavier is not on our schedule every year because we are not in the Big East yet. I actually wail and gnash my teeth daily over said topic. It is my cross to bear.
  19. A10 SEASON CHAMPIONS! Well done Bills! Go get them in the tournament. As you can tell by the passionate conversation on this thread, the board is behind you. Go put more trophies in the case and let's get to the NCAAs!
  20. I'm all in on this. And the lyrics make for a perfect post-game alma mater moment. Make it happen @Billikid and @MattyMo213, carry the torch.
  21. I LOVE that they are revitalizing this song. And it is definitely more of an alma mater than a fight song. This is definitely the sort of thing that you do for a University surrounding its 200th anniversary of its founding. For diehards like us that complain about the lack of traditions, we should all be embracing this.
  22. Also, another "fun fact, if you will, I lived at GW for a summer semester two summers in a row for internships during my time at SLU, their dorms make DeMatt look like the penthouse suite at the Ritz Carlton in Maui. Its a weird campus, obviously very urban feeling being in the heart of DC, but it really makes you appreciate how well SLU manages having an urban campus and all the green space we have. Coming back to SLU felt like what I imagine getting out of prison feels like. GDub's location in the middle of DC makes for some cool opportunities, but you really don't get the any sense of the "traditional" campus experience.
  23. And just like that, I found it: Nicknames and Mascots | GW Libraries
