Article on Xavier basketball commitment
slupkt04 replied to bbill's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
"Xavier being able to pay for us to do that is awesome," said Kenny Frease, enjoying his typical court-side seat, a sweat towel adorned over his shoulder. "He's our little cheerleader," Mack said. -

If have to read another article that mentions this guy again, I will quit buying hair gel. -
Majerus gets a vote for AP Coach of the Year

no love for Brad Stephens. I'm sure this poll was conducted before Selection Sunday. -
Hope everyone has a great Easter weekend and if you are with family, take some time to realize how blessed we all are to have people around us that care for us and love us. I know Good Friday is kind of a bummer with the Passion of Jesus, but remember the joy of the Easter promise. Happy Easter, everybody. You too, pistol.

Would this be held in conjunction with Rican's class reunion @ the SLURuba (rec center) pool?

Let's let the "Birthplace of Aviation" have their moment.

They also demanded that "Sully" Sullenberger be the pilot for every flight

Not arguing with you at all...just presenting a different side to the argument that I witnessed first hand as an SGA rep. There weren't students picketing outside the BSC, but the protest took heart in the SGA chambers and in the pages of the UNews.
-
Pistol, if you ever sat in an SGA meeting, you wouldn't even believe how hard the international students push for this. Nike's "alleged" human rights violations is a huge barrier for us not having Nike gear made available to the general public. I'm not arguing or against the international students...many of these students have seen first hand the sweat shops and do not want these products on campus. It was very educational and moving to see some of their pleas.

It probably isn't cost effective for SLU anyway.
-
It isn't THE reason, it is one of the reasons, Peter.
-
Amen to that.
-
Completely agree with you, Roy! It's a total transformation, but I think what the original post was trying to figure out is why we don't see SLU gear competing with MU, KU and even (gasp) SIU gear in the sporting goods stores or even at the terminals at the Airport! There's always so much Mizzou crap there!
-
It's the fringe group of International students that push this "fair trade" and "living wage" doctrine, in accordance to UN Human Rights legislation vis-a-vis the Roman Catholic Church. They've basically forced Biondi's hand in this (God forbid the UNews publish anything slanderous towards our administration). The "Nike" gear we have is basically a Nike shirt from any sporting goods store, with our logo embroidered on. I've been adamantly opposed to this from the get-go, as it would really boost our visibility (which is the whole reason Biondi wanted to join the A-10). In the meantime, I'm just going to have jimbo airbrush a few shirts for me the next time I'm in town.

I like how Texas A&M has the 12th Man Tradition where a walk-on plays (often on special teams and wears #12), but it signifies the bond between student and athlete at A&M. I would love to see that kind of tradition at SLU, where the student body rallies behind a kid like Darren Young, a guy who practices his ass off to make the team better. I bet it was a thrill for Young and his parents. I know I'd have tears in my eye if my son or daughter was rewarded for being a team player. -
Never said I owned anything, Joe. Billiken fan since October 2000 when I first visited SLU. It's been a love affair ever since.

Thank you, Sign Guy.

Roy and I are affiliated by our love of SLU basketball. We are Billiken Brethren.

Don't suspend Roy. He's a huge Billiken fan and a good guy. He has his own thoughts and opinions. And while they aren't uniform to the majority of posters on here, that's what makes this board so unique. We are lucky to have Roy.
