  1. Tragic. I sat in on a seminar he gave during the 2005 Final Four and he was very appreciative of the city of St. Louis and said that he anticipated St. Louis being a major player for hosting NCAA Championships in the years to come. With the Frozen Four, Women's Final Four and Wrestling having been here since, looks like the good doctor was right. He will be missed.
  2. Kids will be kids and college students will drink. I saw my sister, who is a freshman, at Lacledes on Labor Day...was it awkward?? Yeah, but we were all freshmen once...responsibility and knowing when to say when is big. Friends also don't let friends go to Lacledes the first night sorority girls can go out after rush.
  3. It is more probable he will be on the road with his fellow Aussies of AC/DC then bringing Hells Bells to Chaifetz this year. Just call 314-977-CODY for dirty deads, done dirt cheap.
  4. I hate to say it, but SLU's regulation of drinking is out of control. There are conspiracy theorists in all of us, but this kid probably had no record, no reason to worry about a simple complain, and allowed panic to set in, thinking he couldn't live with his parents with this on his record. Totally a way of thought for these young Indian children, who grow up in very conservative households. I lived with a first-gen Indian SLU Law student and he got a DUI and for a week just locked himself in his room out of shame. I thought he was going to kill himself...thank God he didn't. I'm sure this was handled inappropriately by our lovely DPS people and ResLife, who are just atrocious in handling these situations. They need to know the track record of these kids before bringing in a sqaudron of Murtaughs and Hightowers to bust these kids. If it's a repeat situation, bring the DPS. If it's a kid who has kept his nose clean, just give him/her a warning. This is unacceptable and totally on the hands of SLU and ResLife.
  5. I agree 100% with you, TheBand. SLU is like the Bennigan's of college athletics. Looks good on the outside, but when you get inside, it's just a travesty. I mean this with no disrespect, but seriously, there's no way you can take ANY idea from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and apply it to SLU.
  6. I didn't even see BM at the SLU-PSU game in press row. Usually, his presence is noticeable. Does he just assume the "campus is buzzing?" The only time I've seen SLU's campus "buzzing" was after the '03 U of L game. Thoughts?
  7. Put a mongolian buffett on the pitching rubber and you'll get RM out there skipping over the foul line, ala Turk Wendell.
  8. An incredible marketing effort gets 7k into Chaifetz for - get this - a women's volleyball game. Great effort from our ladies, and so nice to see all the fans in Billiken Blue stand and applaud the effort from both teams at the end of the match. I think the fact that Miami took Bama to 5 sets was the worst thing that could have happened to SLU, since the game dragged on and I'm sure the Lady Bills might have expended some energy just waiting for that match to conclude, knowing their opponent is none other than Paterno State University, the best team in the land. It was great to see SLU recognize the CYC kids -- an instant recruiting tool for Kordes. Get these kids fired up about SLU and the program and when Kordes stops by the catholic high schools down the road, these kids will hopefully remember their first SLU game or the enthusiasm of the crowd at Chaifetz. That being said, I still think Kordes is a recruit or two away from being right there with PSU. # 7 and # 11 from Penn State were two black players who just killed the ball at the net and were like twin towers when it came to blocking. If Kordes can find players that athletic, we'll be right there with State, Texas, etc. Go Bills!!
  9. Mr. Larry Hughes (and member of entourage taking up almost the entire bench press area) as well as most of the freshman class (sans our boys from Oz). Mr. Tommie Liddell III was also in attendance, doing mostly core exercises. There were no athletic trainers on hand to stretch them out or direct them as far as their strength program goes, but I'm sure they've been through the weight training circuit a few times (hopefully) during the off-season. I shook Hughes' hand and welcomed him back on campus. Seemed like a very nice guy and I asked him if he was going through the "Charles Oakley workout" to which he laughed and said "naw man, just getting a light workout in today." Very nice guy, that Larry Hughes.
  10. slu72, you say this without looking at the kid from Indy who just signed with Xavier after having offers from three Big East schools. The Atlantic Ten conference is not the Special Olympics.
  11. According to Mike Jones (former Billiken reserve), the kid Jordan from Ft. Wayne is the guy everyone is talking about at open gyms. The young man has a phenomenal perimeter game and can slash and create for our post players. He will get immediate minutes this winter.
  12. This would have been an awesome tournament circa 2008.
  13. It's a good venue and close to places like the Loft, where people could gather before the fight.
  14. Anything for a dollar - this school will do. When the athletes moved into Gries on Wednesday, they did not even open the Georgetown lot behind Gries, creating a cluster-you-know-what of cars directly behind the dormitory, some of which blocked a fire lane. I immediately phoned a colleague of mine who's mother is in charge of DPS here and asked him to see about raising the gate to the G-town lot, but by the time anyone got around to it, most of the freshman had moved in. The towing company SLU uses over on Morganford has no sympathy towards anyone for any situation.
  15. Fontbonne, the only school that doesn't have numbers on their jerseys -- because you're not just a number -- at Fontbonne University.
  16. Thirsty Joe needs someone to take the goat tag off.
  17. Julio Lugo has warning track power.
  18. Anyone watching this game?? Who's AT the game??! Wow.
  19. Or the fictitious "Gumbel to Gumbel" show from "Family Guy..." Six degrees of Greg Gumbel to Saint Louis U -- GG, or GSquared, as I like to call him, attended Loras College in Dubuque (one of only three cities in America with three 'u' s in its name - the other being Albuquerque, NM and East Dubuque, IL). Loras hired Brad Soderberg as their interim A.D. after he was $hitcanned by SLU. Funny, the way it is, as Dave Matthews just recently said on his new album.
  20. Great addition. He will work wonders with our G's.
  21. There are plenty of "problem" student-athletes scattered all over the collegiate landscape. Even picture-perfect WNBA player Diana Turasi got a DUI and was suspended a couple of games. Our society is, or at least should be, a forgiving society. We let Mike Tyson make cameo appearances in movies, we are easing Michael Vick back into the NFL...the problems will persist, but we can't error Majerus for spotting and evaluating talent, only to find that the kid has some skeletons in the closet. Where was the criticism of Majerus when he, as the coach at a "Jesuit, Catholic University" proclaimed his support for pro-choicer Hillary Rodham Clinton in the '08 primaries? Was this not on par with your criticism of him now? Aren't the Jesuits known for building "Men and Women for Others?" I see a bunch of Roman Collared guys looking over DiLoreto saying "We can rebuild him. We have the technology..."
  22. Come on...this guy isn't John Dillinger with a baseline jump shot. If he can play, he can play, as Amanda Wurlitzer said about renegade Little Leaguer Kelly Leak.
  23. The kid Garcia from Louisville had a brother murdered in a gang-related shooting in NYC -- sometimes you need to remove a kid from situations like that and then watch him blossom. He had no problems (reported, anyway) for Pitino at U of L, which for him was a million miles removed from the dangers of his housing project. The kid is from "Sin City" and if you get him away from Vegas and under a guy like Majerus and Moser, you never know. We can't be the judge and jury on this kid. We all make mistakes and if you look at the recent pro players making mistakes and paying minimal sentences (Dante Stallworth, Antonio Pierce, Plax Burress), this kid shouldn't have to pay the ultimate price -- not receiving a college education -- for a mistake he's made. Not sure if the crime happened in Minnesota or Vegas or if he was just at a camp out there, but either way, get him out of a troubled spot. Sign the kid, Rick. If he can play - he can play here.
