  1. Is that really how you read that comment? I said I could understand someone having a pro-SLU slant due to this being a SLU board. That really offends you? You think that's an accusation of something? For the record, the first shot was at Missouri St. and I merely pointed out if they're on another level, they'll have the chance to prove it on the court against Missouri St. Where they have struggled to do so. That's it..nothing more, nothing less. I know Latsch, he's been on Stltoday for years. Have a good my friend...
  2. My God, I picked 20 years because it's a round number...I could have said 26 years and the point would be the same.
  3. To the point of the thread, in McCall committing, that's a nice get. I like his game, albeit undersized as a two guard, he can attack the rim, and is strong with the ball. Good player...
  4. "MSU poster" I did not compare our recruiting first, that was already in the thread. I merely said they were different systems and different players. Jerome Jones was a Sporting News top-150 kid, and a high major player by Hoops Master. He was rated lower by other sites, while some SLU recruits were rated higher by some sites than others. What's the point? How is anything I said something to be sensitive about? SLU is doing just fine in recruiting, and should really be worried about the players they get, and not the ones they don't. FWIW, I am decently connected with some people within the athletic department at MSU and they said they landed their #1 targets at each position (PG, SG, SF). Meaning, they were not plan B kids for us. Whether their evaluations turn out to be right or wrong will be borne out over the next several seasons. How is it somehow a slap to a large percentage of SLU fans to be compared to Valley schools? A-10 and Valley are extremely similar conferences, each with up years and down years. These kids choose colleges for a ton of different reasons, and this whole different level thing has gotten silly for both groups of fans. Missouri St. fans saw that thread as well and have their panties in a bunch as well...I wrote very complimentary things about SLU's recruiting, and think you're doing fine for your system, just as Missouri St. is doing for theirs.
  5. You come off a little trollish calling a team Southwest Missouri when you know good and well their name is Missouri St. It's your board, and if you want to be overly sensitive to a comment, you have that right. As was pointed out, diferent systems, different players, and the recruiting for both schools has increased, which is a good thing for basketball in Missouri.
  6. I've read this board for years, and usually post in Missouri St. topics. I say 20 years, because that is mostly the time that Missouri St. has been DI, and they've had a lot of success versus the Billikens on the court over that time. I have no interest in a flame war...
  7. I guess I missed where I put an MSU spin on it?
  8. I've always respected your work Billiken, this type of response probably would have been great the first time. Being a Billiken board, I can understand the pro-SLU slant of course. Majerus speaks for himself, and he has done a solid job recruiting for SLU in a short time, but he's got an extra year on Martin, and Martin brought in a big class last year with some high-major athletes. I think next year MSU steps up the "level" of kids they get even higher, and SLU continues to bring in solid players as well. Watched Scheer in the state title game on tv, as a junior, with a stress fracture, he really reminded me of Nate Funk. A little limited athletically, but great competitiveness and IQ, and a great shooter. Good point in that SLU had several similar players already, although SLU did have a commitable offer to him, that it appears Evans took first.
  9. Different systems, different types of players. SLU can prove the above true on the court...where they've struggled to do so over the past 20 years. Take care.
  10. They offered him today according to the Bears board (did it on his visit today)...he's touring campus and has narrowed his choices to Georgetown, Georgia Tech, and Missouri State. FWIW, MSU has a great recruiting class coming in, and Kyle Weems is a really good player who has a freshman last year. Though I do tend to agree that Peterson would be the Bears best player.
  11. FWIW, Peterson was born and raised in Springfield, and his father has moved back here from Maryland. He has applied for admission to Missouri St. and is awaiting an offer from Coach Martin. He has not gotten one as of yet. At this point, the Bears are looking at a couple of JUCO's at PG, and a high schooler playing in Boston originally from Chicago. It has been rumored the Bears are wanting Peterson to acquire an academic scholly this year and see what happens for next year. Anything else is just rumors and conjecture at this point.
  12. Good post. Side note- As funny as the Catholics versus Convicts name was for the rivalry, Miami- in reality- had more Catholic players on their roster at the time. The players SLU is recruiting and playing with are no different than the players recruited and being played in the Valley...though I do agree that SLU is a private Jesuit University, the values and ethics are not much different than most other Universities. Just as some want to read into posts for their own agenda (point the finger at myself at times as well), the same is true of some SLU fans who want to believe their University is somehow different idealistically as well. I'll bow out of the debate, as it isn't ever changing, but I liked this post and wanted to add the Miami/ND sidebar as well.
  13. A girl did that here at a local DII. Stopped playing at one school at one semester, and suited up with another one week later. I think Roy is correct.
  14. No dog in the fight, but the Bears have a player who left Boston halfway through the year last year. He decided to sit out second half of the year last year, and the first half of this year to complete his one year transfer year. Then, he will have 2.5 years left of eligibility. If he has decided to sit out this full year, he would have had 3 years of eligiblity left. There is not situation where he would have had 3.5 years eligibility. FWIW on another player's similar situation.
  15. I really need to lighten up on the caffeine...allowing a discussion on a message board to bug me is bad enough. Reading into the tone of written words without any non-verbal cues to use, is worse. Good luck to both schools in the future. I believe it is much more fun when all the programs are good, and is good for the basketball in the area...
  16. A Saluki talking about the quality of education from another school...too funny.
  17. Even you must admit, most times, geography is the number one determinant in conference affiliation. Why am I even in this debate? SLU in the Valley, or not, does not matter to me. It's not like we'd be gaining a national program that would strengthen the Valley, and if you did join, we'd be gaining a program that has prior affiliation and a "name" coach with a nice, new arena. Matters little either way.
  18. I'd agree with UpSaluki, but it really matters little at this point. Spirited games between teams that have either played versus one another for a long period, close games on a continuin basis, or geographic proximity. SLU is happy in the A-10, why would the Valley even want them at this point? It's like trying to keep a girl that doesn't want to be with you...all parties end up unhappy in the end.
  19. You are not better than the Valley. You are not better than the schools in the Valley.
  20. ESPN ranked all basketball programs in Division I for prestige. SIU checked in at #52, and Missouri St. checked in at #57 in all of division I basketball. First and second in the Valley, I'd say someone cares about Missouri St.
  21. Understood. You would probably fit well in the Valley, and I'd take it more as a sign of the recognition from Valley schools that you have the opportunity to have a great program, more than I'd take it as constantly trying to belittle them. Not saying you are doing that, but I see it a lot from A-10 fans. There is an ebb and flow in the college basketball world, and the Valley has been up some, and the A-10 has been down some outside of X. Now, the A-10 is back up some, and the Valley is more down. When the Valley is up, it doesn't prove SLU should be there, and when the A-10 is up, the same can be true. You are a Jesuit, solid academic, private school in a large metro area. That aligns you more with some of the A-10 (14?) schools, but the goal of every institution is that of higher learning. My shorts only bunch when some of the SLU brethren try to pass themselves off as a little more than they are. None of us are Yale in academics, nor Gonzga in basketball. This does not mean we shouldn't strive for excellence though, and I believe all of these schools are pushing toward that goal...
  22. I'm aware that you feel they are your rivals, what I'm saying is, is that I don't see that coming from their end for the most part. Maybe I'm wrong on that, I don't know the games as well as you would.
  23. I never said anything about SLU and MSU being rivals...they're not. We don't consider SLU a rival at all (MSU has other rivals). SLU doesn't consider MSU a rival either (different school philosophies, large metro area versus smaller metro area etc). You came off a little arrogant and elitist in your putting words into others' posts Roy...from what I've seen on here, you're well-respected, so I'll just assume this is an issue that bugs you, and chalk it up to that.
  24. From what I've seen, X and Dayton do not share the rivalry though. This is only from an outsider's viewpoint though...
