  1. By your rational, which is wrong, the CAA was better than the Big 10, Big East, ACC, Big 12, WAC, and all but 1 SEC and 1 PAC-10 team. Is that what you are saying Brian? There's no shame in admitting you were wrong on this and I was right. I'm sure your dog will still love you. Man's best friend. Your jealousy is something you may want to address.
  2. Whatever idiot? LOL Did you get beat up on the playground as a little kid? Did the bigger kids steal your lunch money or not let you sit with them in the cafeteria in high school? That's no reason to take it out on me...just trying to help my misguided buddy. Oh and for your info, the MVC is ranked 6th - AHEAD of the Big 12. just a little info for those that don't want to believe the facts so blatently laid out in front of them.
  3. The more I hear from you, the more I laugh. Why don't you check the RPI ranking of the conference and then try and tell me the MWC is better then the MVC. Both having great years but MVC is the toast of the town outside the BCS Its hilarious that you probably spend your entire life reguritating basketball stats on this website and I come on and in 170 posts, completely show you up. much love brain. you gave a valiant effort but sometimes BSing your way only goes so far...
  4. I guess those kyle korver Creighton teams can be selectively left out of some of your memories. the two are extremely comparable as far as past history. and in terms of this year, the MVC is clearly better. its a fact. look it up. numbers don't lie.
  5. Could it be that we just aren't very exciting to cover in the press and that's why the newspapers could care less about us? Or how about the fact that the MVC this year in the premeir conference outside of the SEC, ACC, Pac-10's of the world? Everything isn't a vendetta against SLU folks. The day we put a successful and entertaining product on the floor, maybe then we get some press coverage. Or maybe its the fact we play in a conference with the closest team about 400 miles away...or that 90% of our conference games we have to fly to....or maybe the fact that noone knows SLU is even fielding a team this year because WE CAN'T WATCH THEM ON TV!! It makes you look pretty pathetic when you are whining about media coverage of a very mediocre team. We had tons of preseason press due to the well deserved hype...and we failed miserably in delivering, during our golden oppotunity. it makes yourself look really sad, brian, when you make comments like that. you sound like a whiney, jealous, 5 year old...
  6. I seriously don't believe I am hearing that the A-10 was once a major conference. I really believe you guys have now dipped your toes into the A-10 kool-aid. One or two good years by UMASS back in the day doesn't make this conference a major one now, or ever. Nor does a good year by GW, as shown by their Top 10 ranking last year, congradulated with an 8seed in the tourny, a prompt loss in either the first or second round, i don't remember. Regardless, having one good team a year in the Top 25 (not this year) does NOT make you a major conference by any stretch of the imagination. Now CUSA was a different story. They clearly had signficantly more history, tradition, and success than the MVC. That wasn't my point, I never once mentioned CUSA. I was speaking to the A-10. Remind me the last time St. Bonnie's, Duquense, Lasalle, Fordham, etc were powerhouses.
  7. That was the most worthless minute of my life reading that nonsense. Complete and utter nonsense. One average weekend by the MVC and you discount sweet 16 appearences and top ranked teams. You are a laugher. ROCK ON A-10!!!! How I love watching you on ESPN, Fox Sports, Internet (oh wait....the Horizon league has a better contract then us). Thanks for the laugh...
  8. Northern Iowa getting destroyed at home by Nevada? Like that was that big of a shock. NEVADA IS #10 IN THE NATION!!!! SIU beat #12 Butler!!!!! That is a HUUUUGE win Last time I checked, Appy St., Drexel, and Winthrop are all pretty darn good teams. You are so completely off base here its sad thinking those losses are terrible. Way off base. All have a heck of a better chance at the tourny then we do. We should have joined the MEAC. I think they had more games on TV this weekend then the A-10...
  9. Maybe the fact that the game was on, oh, MARDI GRAS it might have something to do with the lack of posts? Am I the only one that actually has a life outside of Billikens.com and doesn't come running to post the second after a win or loss? Maybe so... But I'd much rather have been out, getting tanked out of my gord (which, I'll be happy to report, I succeeded in, HIGH FIVE!) then come on here and debate the merits of UBs pack defense and critique the release point of luke meyers JUMP shot on a saturday night. that's just a personal preference though. In my opinion, that can wait till Monday.
  10. I said the uber-positive fans are delusional. Not positive fans, overally positive fans (Billikan, Skip, etc) in the face of blatent opposing facts and reality. These types of fans see no wrong, they think our recruiting is doing just wonderfully, and the season has been a success so far. If you judge success by everyone having a good time, maybe you should be a fan of 5th grade basketball, not D-1. Those fans that can't see there is some room for serious improvement are the delusional ones and thats who I was refering too. If we didn't have positive and negative voices on this board, it sure as hell would be boring. Before you start calling me out, maybe you should read my posts.
  11. Thanks Alumni, you just made my case and point. This came way out of left field and I think you may be running a fever. You completely missed the theme of my post, and in doing so, proved part of it.
  12. People on this board continually make absurd, off the wall comments, like comparing SLU to Duke and this SLU/Lasalle game to one of the Top 25...just get used to it. Most of the uber positive people on here are delusional in my humble opinion and are so out of touch with reality its scary... I was actually surprised and impressed that the billikens drew as many fans as they did on saturday night. I suppose everyone wants a little mardi gras flavor. As for the game, I didn't get to see it but from all accounts, it sounded just miserable until the final 6 minutes. But not uncommon. Typical SLU games are boring and not very fun to watch, with the exception of a handful of games. Glad we won, but seriously kool-aid drinkers, this was lasalle.
  13. Being of Irish decent, I am in fact honored that the University of Notre Dame uses my ancestors as their mascot. This situation is nearly identical. The fighting Irish is a great respect to my fellow Irishmen and I hope that the whacked out liberals in this country don't start going after this. Chief, you will be missed.
  14. Chief Illiniwek was probably the greatest mascot, with the best traditions, in all of the college landscape. We have become way too politically correct thanks to the far left liberals in this country. It is really a sad shame that the Chief will be no more. It was a great tradition that will be sorely missed. If you've never seen him perform live at a football or basketball game at U of I, you really missed out. It was areguably the best tradition in all of sports.. This is a sad day
  15. For your information, Ian cashed it in about 19 games ago....
  16. Maybe our team is finally showing some emotion. Jimbo, I loved the rudy reference as it was on TV last night again. what a great movie. If wendell doesn't get his ass down to the bus in time, leave him everytime. You are a walk-on, you are privalaged to be on the team, and you don't show up on time?? Unacceptable. Ian's benching is coming about 10 games too late, but I suppose as the old adage goes, better late then never. To Wendell: "Your 5 foot nothin. A 100 and nothin. With hardly a speck of athletic ability.....you better get ur braids done in time next time"
  17. This is because we realize we SHOULD have a great thing going here. We have our most talented team, by most accounts, in years, even decades, along with a new arena on the way. Yet we are regressing. We are regressing at such a rapid pace in the athletic department that noone knows where it will stop. We SHOULD be winning, and we aren't. Brad motivates NOONE. He doesn't motivate fans to come to the games, he doesn't motivate his players, his game plans are atrocious since he tried to adopt a new "uptempo" style of basketball, etc etc etc. Brad has been completely overmatched in recruiting. He's landed Liddell and Lisch somehow, but here's a news flash, YOU DON'T WIN A CONFERENCE TITLE WITH TWO ABOVE AVERAGE PLAYERS! The athletic departments embaressment of a marketing department is to blame. The lack of budget is to blame. And we think a new stadium is gonna fix this. HELL NO. Brad needs to be fired, and FIRED NOW in my opinion. This season is quickly spiraling out of control and driving fans away by the 100's. Get ready for another ice age in Billiken basketball. Too bad it'll be in a brand spanking new stadium.
  18. Its because our fans accept LOSING!!! THEY ACCEPT MEDIOCRITY!!!! All the old timers here just want the kids to have fun, win or lose. I'm sorry if the sounds selfish, but PUT A DAMN WINNER on the court!!! With winning comees enjoyment, and SLU basketball is the farthest thing from enjoyment I can fathom. Year in and year out other mid major programs have blown by us and into the national spotlight while our fans are satisfied with another 17-12 season, struggling for a post season bid. This was supposed to be our year, and it was a complete and utter FAILURE. And the kool-aid crowd such as Billikan loves mediocrity. He represents the worst of the Billiken culture out there. There is no chance at turning around the program when you have folks like Billikan accepting such historic mediocrity. SLU's rising astronomically in the academic ranks while our athletic program is in a complete state of neutral. There's really no excuse and to listen to Billikan (referring to all koolaid drinkers, not specifically him) and his kind, just frustrates me to no end. HOW DO YOU EXPECT TO WIN IN A CULTURE FILLED WITH BILLIKANS?!?! We need massive culture change and that's my goal here.
  19. The sentiments expressed by the kool-aid drunk billikan and sshaz are what's been holding SLU's program back. Those type of fans, the ones who accept mediocrity in all of its glory, is what the SLU athletic department loves. They know they can put out a very average product and certain "loyal" fans will keep coming and watching the garbage put out there. The sad thing is they have alienated a whole group of us younger folks with their lack of dedication to the program. I know of NO ONE my age who plans on buying season tickets next year, NOT A SINGLE PERSON. Even the biggest SLU fans who are young realize what a neutral state our program is in. Us younger fans don't accept losing when we have as talented a team as we have. We want to see a winner, not a bunch of kids out there "developing". What a moronic comment that was.
  20. When I read this thread, I thought we had a new recruit named "lurker roy"...but apparently the recruiting barrel is still dry. damn.
  21. We got spanked my a mediocre Rhode Island team. It was another embarressing loss in a whole string of terrible losses by 15+ points this year. A week to prepare and we give up 80+ points. GOOD WORK COACHING STAFF!!! Being in 1st place in the A-10 is like being the tallest midget amongst a colony of midgets. Its not that big of an accomplishment...
  22. Drew, Excellent point. I keep wondering why we should buy tickets at all. The athletic department has shown it doesn't care about its fans. Hence, the budget, reluctant coaching changes, etc... I just keep wondering why we pour money into the program when we get such a, for lack of a better term, crappy product for what we pay. If SLU, like most college arena's, didn't serve alcohol, I bet the attendence is down 30%. Just my opinion... It'll be interesting after the 1st year if SLU ever sells out...
  23. I was also referring to SIU this season. We aren't even close this season. We win maybe one game.
  24. Good post Taj. This is at least the 3rd time Brad Soderberg has said "I have no idea what's going on out there." That is completely unacceptable!!!!! You are the leader of this team and you have no idea what's going on?!!? He really, really needs to get fired ASAP. I say do it mid-season and possibly spark a rally in the Conference Tourny. I have never heard such speak out of a D-1 coach. What Brad needs to do is rip his team in the locker room and publically ala Bobby Knight, sprinkled in with a little Colorado football coach tirade. Fire Brad now, and maybe we make a run at the Conference tourny. He is completely listless, inspires noone, clearly doesn't have a clue as how to fix a broken team as he so blatently stated, and, to beat a dead horse, has no recruits. A multi-faced failure, after 5 years of NOTHING, you have got to go Brad, you have got to go.
  25. SLU and its fan base, its administration, and everyone else associated with the program is stuck in neutral and has been for a very long time. To Bay, you cannot be serious thinking we are even in the same catagory as SIU. We lost 9 outta 10 games if we play SIU, and there's nothing to show that we should even beat them once. I find it very hard to defend SLU after not showing up in Rhode Isalnd and for that matter, not showing up the entire season.
