  1. **TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH** My roommate's dad is one the head people for DPS and she just called me saying that he just picked up Rick Majerus from the airport. She said that Majerus told her father he was here to sign a contract.
  2. Random plug for myself (I know, I'm sorry), but I'm graduating in 3 weeks with a Marketing degree and I'm in the process of looking for a full-time marketing position--preferably in something sports-related, but I'm really not being picky right now. If anybody has any leads or people you think I should talk to, I would really appreciate any help you guys can provide. Just send me a personal message if you know anything. Thanks!
  3. I have a presentation due tomorrow and I need to know if I should use a blue posterboard or a yellow posterboard. I ask you, because apparently yours is the only opinion that matters on this campus. God forbid you put your faith in other people to make decisions within their own departments.
  4. I don't think Bonner is the answer at all (I'm actually quite opposed to him coming here). I'm just saying that I have a feeling he's on the top of the AD's list of possible replacements.
  5. I think Bonner would be a name that would be on the top of that list. He's probably one of the only local names that could still make an impact on the current spring signing period because he brings a name and his loyalty to the university. This is just awful...I'm very upset about this.
  6. As I've talked to Metz about a lot recently (and though I was completely opposed to it), I bet Anthony Bonner's name is in the running.
  7. After going to the banquet last night, I support Brad even more than I did before. In fact, I think everyone that was there last night couldn't help but be on Brad's side. The thing that stuck out the most to me about the night (which others have mentioned) was when Brad talked about not reaching their goal of reaching the NCAA Tournament. He said that they set a very lofty goal (which he wouldn't want any other way and he was very proud of) and that just because they didn't achieve that goal, that doesn't mean the season was a failure. There were a lot of successes this season and I am very proud of the entire team. I am now more than ever convinced that Brad Soderberg is the man who WILL get us to the Tournament. P.S. Thanks again UNCA for the invite!! It was a phenomenal time!!
  8. They should Mitchell signing his letter to attend SLU. He said how excited he is to play here, be close to home, and especially to get the chance to play with Tommie and Kevin. He also looked good in a SLU hat. Soderberg was asked about having negative press and he reinforced the fact that he doesn't read anything bad about himself and the only time that he hears these things is when "well-meaning fans" or the media asks him to respond to it. He said that he has always felt that Cheryl has been 110% behind him. He considers her a member of his team. They also asked him his opinion on all these coaches breaking their contracts early to move to coach at a different school and he basically said he thinks is awful (for lack of a better word) that they're leaving early because a lot of kids are getting hurt.
  9. >Does the new prez get your Viking horns? I was thinking about that and planning on it, but then I talked to a few older, wiser individuals who thought that I should hold on to them so 20 years down the road I can whip them out (or mount them on my wall like deer horns) and reminise (I can't spell)...but then again, it would also be cool to come to games 20 years from now and have the President still wearing them....it's a tough call.
  10. >does your retirement mean becca gets your bills.com moniker >of bluecrewprez, or does she get to come up with her own? >maybe she already posts I know she doesn't already post, but I advised her to do it. I need to talk to Steve and see if I can change my name (maybe add "ex-" to the front of it or something) coz I definitely don't wanna lose all those points I got haha...but if I can't, I think I'll pass on the moniker to her and come up with a new one. >did you get hired by the U yet?? I'm working on it...you guys will be the first to know if I convince the VP of Student Development and the Provost to create that "Internal Marketing" job for me (to promote athletics to students on campus).
  11. Last night the Blue Crew had our year-end banquet with the men's team and the coaching staff at Humphrey's. We named the new President of Blue Crew for the 2007-2008 season (Becca Meyer, who will be a senior next year...be good to her ), and yes I did cry (I am a girl, what can you do). We also gave out a bunch of awards to Crewers and players, so here is the list of player awards that we gave out (I thought you guys might get a kick out some of them): DWAYNE POLK - "King of Billiken Shorts" - for all of those Q&A videos during time-outs and his expressed desire to star in a new season of "Flavor of Love" entitled "Polk of Love" (and if he were a superhero he would be mighty mouse). DANNY BROWN - "The Fly High Award" - for his miraculous shot at the end of the 1st overtime of our last regular season game vs. Dayton that sent us into double overtime. WENDELL BENNETT - "The Rudy Award" - for his senior night game where everyone was chanting his name and going crazy when he finally got his 1st point. DUSTIN MAGUIRE - "Next Big Thing" - we expect big things from him next year...as soon as he hits his first 3, he's going to be unstoppable. JEFF COFFEY - "Favorite Hype Award" - for his great clip during those videos trying to tell the crowd to get loud...we always looked forward to him doing his Cha Cha Slide "Everybody clap your hands..." MIKE JONES - "The Energizer Bunny Award" - for the game at Xavier where we lost by 20 points...Coach sent in the walk-ons and freshmen and Mike was running up and down the court with the energy like it was a tie game. IAN VOUYOUKAS - "The Benchmark Award" - for setting the standard for all those to follow. KEVIN LISCH - "The Timex Award" - "He takes a licking and keeps on ticking." JUSTIN JOHNSON - "The Sportscenter Award" - for his dunk against UNC right before halftime that made Sportscenter for one night only. TOMMIE LIDDELL - "The Matrix Award" - He breaks all natural laws of physics, bending space and time around him. he is "THE ONE". LUKE MEYER - "The Chuck Norris Award" - because he was a bad-##### this year. This award featured a list of Chuck Norris jokes with his name cleverly-replaced with Luke's. Some of my favorites: * Luke Meyer frequently donates blood to the Red Cross. Just never his own. * Luke Meyer counted to infinity. Twice. * If you have $5 and Luke Meyer has $5, Luke Meyer has more money than you. * They once made a Luke Meyer toilet paper, but it wouldn’t take ##### from anybody. * Luke Meyer’s tears cure cancer. Too bad he’s never cried. ADAM KNOLLMEYER - "The Country Dunkin' Award" - for being the unexpected 2006 Billiken Madness Dunk Contest Champion BRYCE HUSAK - "'Was He on the Scouting Report' Moment of the Year" - The award stated: "Bryce Hu-â€Shocked†the UMass Minutemen during the second round game of the Atlantic-10 Tournament. He logged 21 minutes, scored 10 points, collected 6 rebounds, had 1 block, and 1 steal en route to a thrilling three-point Billiken victory in overtime." AND TO THE MEMBERS OF BILLIKENS.COM-- I know that it's not quite the end of the year (My Presidency is up on May 1st), but I wanted to take a minute to be sentimental and sincerely thank everyone on Billikens.com for all of your help and support of the Blue Crew and of me these past 2 years. If it hadn't been for you, there is absolutely no way Billiken Madness would have ever happened. 90% of the signs/cheers/ideas Blue Crew implemented these past two years came from this board. I have learned everything I know about Billiken Basketball from Billikens.com and I like to think you have taught me well. I talk about the people on Billikens.com as friends because you have become that (even when Metz bad-mouths my coach haha). I've learned so much about myself these past two years and you guys have helped me mature as a Billiken Basketball fan, a leader, and a person more than you'd think an online community could. There have always been people that bad-mouthed Blue Crew or me personally over the years that really had me doubting myself and what I was doing. Whenever that happened, I jumped on this board, read posts, and got that motivation and reassurance that I was going in the right direction. I know it sounds cheesy (but again, I am a girl...bear with me), but it was you guys that set the bar that I tried to reach as the leader of the student section; it is because of you and your vocalization of what being a Billiken is all about that motivated me to show others that being a Billiken is a priviledge. I came to SLU as a freshmen extremely shy and hating basketball with a passion. If you would have told me then that now I would have all of THIS behind me now, I would have thought you were insane. I have been honored to be the Blue Crew President these past two years and I hope I have lived up to your standards. Thank you again...and GO BILLS!!
  12. Yeah, see that's what I'm not sure about....where's our resident youtube video poster???
  13. How many times did we make top 10 Sportscenter moments this season? I know JJ's dunk and Ian's MO State finale, but I wasn't sure if Tommie got one also at some point.
  14. > instead diane doesnt even get invited. do they remember the work she has done to create the first practice atmosphere? invaluable. Well, I think we can all agree that Billiken Madness really was sub-par this year (I definitely was crying in the back as soon as it was over....people still aren't allowed to talk to me about it). They probably just noticed the same thing haha.
  15. >have fun prez, i would have thought the athdept would have >acknowledged all you did at the banquet, hopefully ub will >at least mention you > >has the athdept made you an offer yet for a full time job? I'm just excited I get to go!! I don't need any type of recognition...I'm just excited that in 20 years when I'm still coming to games I can tell my kids, "I was President of that 20 years ago." (...to which they'll say, "Mom, that wasn't even in this building, so you know it doesn't really count." Then I'll tell them they're grounded.) And about the job: they haven't offered me a job YET, but I'm working on it haha. I'm in the process of pitching an "Internal Marketing" position (to be in charge of promoting athletics on campus) to the SLU administration. Cheryl supports it and says basically if I can find the money, I can have the job. I'll hopefully be meeting with Kent Porterfield (VP of Student Development) next week then the Provost sometime in the near future to find some money somewhere on this campus. But you know I'm really trying to get this job so I can have good seats at the Arena haha If I end up working for the Athletic Department, we should work out some sort of agreement where you guys can't be mean to me/post bad things about me (since I wouldn't be able to post). You guys can be lethal, you know.
  16. >Looks like Shimmy is getting the recruiting job done. What >is amazing to me is how she is able to get this done with >home games at West Pine, what has to be a poor budget >compared to other womens' programs and, finally, a pathetic >history of women's basketball at SLU. Her charisma is >tremendous. I agree with you on your points. I think one of her biggest selling points is the new arena. I have a feeling West Pine Gym is mentioned as an after-thought when she's recruiting.
  17. Thanks for the offer Cowboy but it looks like UNCA SODABERGER got to me first haha. I am so there and I'm super-excited! (Thanks again Sodaberger!) This can serve as my official initiation into the Billikens.com Alumni Division
  18. Do you happen to know if it's free for students? Coz I really want to go, but I definitely don't have $40.00.
  19. My dad and I are going (sitting in section 118). I'm just ready for Butler lose.
  20. >I can still see my dad sitting in the kitchen listening to >Harry Carey broadcasting the Billiken games in the early and >mid 50's. Wow I never knew Harry Carey used to broadcast our games...that's crazy!
  21. I feel like this board could use a bit more positive energy. We usually ask about who everyone is, where they're from, their relationship to the program, etc, but we never really ask WHY they are a Billiken Basketball fan. I talked about this in another thread a while back, but every single person on this board is on it because they are a fan...and they had a moment, an experience, or a revelation that changed something inside of them to say, "I am going to be a Billiken Basketball fan for life." MY QUESTION: WHAT WAS THAT MOMENT/EXPERIENCE/REASON FOR YOUR DEVOTION TO BILLIKEN BASKETBALL OVER ALL OTHER BASKETBALL PROGRAMS?? MY ANSWER: 1st regular season home basketball game in November 2003, sitting in the 2nd row of the Blue Crew, looking around halfway into the first half and thinking to myself, "This is the coolest thing I have ever seen." WHAT SEALED THE DEAL: Breaking my nose when rushing the court after Drejaj hit the game winning 3 at the end of the first round NIT 2004 game vs. Iowa.
  22. I personally think that something like this could be beneficial to the BLUE CREW and the campus life. I think if the bookstore/Chaifetz merchandise store sold a variation of the Official BLUE CREW shirt (the shirt paying members get), that would be great. Maybe bring back "vintage" designs, a BLUE CREW Kid's Crew design, etc. You don't know how much I would love to see a bunch of 8 year old kids all in BLUE CREW shirts...call it the marketing major in me, but it just sets them up to join the organization and go to games if they decide to come to SLU after graduation. My main concern--which I may have missed in the article itself--is the possibility of the university being the sole financial benefactor on this new product. If BLUE CREW could get like 15%-25% of each shirt sold, that would definitely be something worth looking into. Overall, I think it's a great idea that, if successful, could be expanded to all student organizations/clubs...like selling Barenaked Statues or Legion 1818 shirts. It shows your fellow students that you are proud of each other's achievements.
  23. >Diane, >You know who this is, so I'm not going to bash you or >anything, but please be realistic --- SLU won't pay for ID >scanners or anything like that. Great idea, but not going to >work because they know the tendencies of the student body -- >an apathetic bunch who unless there's free beer won't go to >any athletic events. Actually, the Red Scare at Dayton were the people who raised the money for those scanners (they have 2 costing about $1000 each I think it is)...as I understand it, the Athletic Department doesn't have much to do with this process. If when the Chaifetz opens and it becomes a hot ticket for students to get, and if an agreement can be reached between the BLUE CREW, the ticket office, and the Athletic Department to enact this ticket distribution method, I think it could definitely work. And what about free beer?? Who says we couldn't do that?? There should be tailgates before games with kegs upon kegs for students. That would DEFINITELY get some people out there.
