  1. I question the commitment that SLU administration has for athletics in general. Men's & women's soccer might succeed because of local interest in the sport from potential recruits. Otherwise, the teams are usually outclassed. A transfer to The Valley or the OVC might be the right way to go if the administration wants to go cheap. Lower travel costs overall. And, the A-10 has become a 1-bid league, so no loss there.

  2. I have been reading much from others about the talent demise in the A-10. It seems to have become an annual one-bid league. Geographically, other than Loyola-Chicago and Dayton, SLU doesn't fit in. If we can only be a member of a one-bid league, should we consider moving to one where opponents have some regional rivalry and travel difficulties are lessened? Maybe the OVC or Horizon? (No, I don't recommend The Valley, so lower the blood pressure.)

  3. The pitiful statistics on team defense speaks for itself. This is primarily a coaching issue. The coach can teach positioning and helping out, but teaching a team to "shoot better" is a tall order. Either Ford needs to focus on that or get a defensive-minded assistant coach. The rest of the season will determine what is done or should be done, one way or the other.

  4. NIL will transform the non-moneyed schools to modern-day junior colleges.

But, what happens when a football or basketball player who received NIL money, but the coach wants to cut him? Does he keep the money, and move on to another school? It happens in pro sports, where the player dogs it, until the next contract. The NIL fund might force the coach to keep the player, even he is non-performing.

  5. Unless, and until, the SLU hierarchy decides whether they want to have a competitive athletic program, of any kind, I am disinterested. Given that we funded our daughter's physical therapy education @ SLU, I HAD a vested financial interest in the university's success. Now, it seems to be operated by the 21st Century version of The Three Stooges.

    Bottom line, I don't care.

  6. As a casual fan, I don't see the motivation for Crews to retire, since he has two more years on his contract, at $850K per. And, I don't see anyone on the horizon who is willing to fund the buyout for SLU. The contract extension was a bad decision (as we now see); the Billikens, I fear, are stuck with Crews, for at least one more year. Maybe someone will step forward to buy out one year, but not two. Just my two cents.

  7. Just what is Crews' contract status, after this season? If it has more years to run, is a buyout a possibility, or is it outside the stratosphere? A change is mandatory, after this season, because he really doesn't care for recruiting, and his ability to relate to the players is invisible.

Thanks in advance for your input.
