  1. besides shirts, what about hats??? maybe there should be a rally/benefit for the bar, live music in the biergarten, use the parking lot etc... Damn the Man, Save the Empire!!!!!!!!!
  2. I am all for revitilization efforts in the city, but come on. These developers need to realize that Jan/Humphries are people you work with, not people you run for parking. UGH!!!!!!!!
  3. I worked at Humphries during school, spent many a penny on beer and God Bless the Patty Melt! This lack of vision ###### by people is really beginning to piss me off. I was in Humphries the afternoon the structure formally known as Clarkes was razed, looked on in awe. These people need to realize that Humphries is one of those institutions that you leave alone. Jan and the boys are awesome and have done so much for so many people that I hope that these developers realize what type of hornets nest they are stirring up. I am not one for civil unrest but I volunteer for anything to save the place. I remember being in the bar with friends after the win against KU. The team came in, a class move by Ryan Robertson to be there with Troy. Penny Pitchers, the SLU NCAA games...... DAMN THE MAN SAVE THE EMPIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. goat head yes, aligator no. the aligator belonged to a TKE, when it died they threw it in our front yard and some child next door at the day care came across it when they were on a walk. the U news loved that one:-)
  5. I lived through a blitzkrieg from the admin., lovely house on lindell that is now a dinning club/restaurant/building...
  6. when I was working out this evening I saw on the TV, didn't have headphones on, Frank during sports had a SLU graphic up, no video, not sure what was said. anyone know? X Price???
  7. if Brad found out that one of his current/future players was posting messages on a Billiken fan site something not nice would hit the fan. it is one thing to read stories and messages on the net, but to open a potential pandora's box is another. to impersonate someone is ignorant, and for a player to talk about anything pertaining to his/her team on the internet defies the confidence and trust of the team/program!
  8. the first media timeout in the first preseason game is when the cavalry will overtake AD's minutes when Brad realizes he has way too many jets rusting on the bench.
  9. I was just going by the MSU roster from the Final Four program, clarification much apprciated, anyways, projects can be good if there is some talent. Good teams always have "a stiff" or two on the bench for a couple of years and by their junior or senior year develop into good role players.
  10. If a decent 6-10/6-11/7ft was available I'd take one and redshirt him. In many cases bigs are developed and really don't make an impact till year 3. Look at the good Big Ten teams, Michigan State has THREE 6-11 kids redshirted this season, maybe one of those three makes a solid impact. There aren't that many bluechippers to go around, you want to get a kid that has some ability that your program can mold into a solid player. In the case of the Billikens, Ian should come into his own this season, Bryce begins to "take more than baby steps" and have a center redshirted. You can never have enough post players.
  11. this is a bit wishful, albeit fun though. 2007 the Ed is the site for the St. Louis Regional. 2012 is the target for the next Final Four at the Ed.
  12. Roy, great questions/comments. I am just trying to gauge what peoples general feelings would be to something like this. In many cases these are relatively new concepts for most schools. When schools implement a program like what I am talking about there are usually people, right wrong or indifferent, that get upset. I am just curious to know what peoples reactions are. This is a BIG IF, if the University actually did something like this it would probably take years to accomplish. In KU's case they have it set up where if you have been a basketball season ticket holder longer than 15years they will keep you in the best possible location eventhough that person may or may not give annually. I looked at the seating diagram for The Allen Fieldhouse and those sections are very good. I want a great program, and I am just thinking at ways that SLU can improve. IMHO we have a solid group, a good base coming back, eventhough it was a rough year I really like the possibilities.. There is no right or wrong answer..
  13. I would go and read about others schools athletic donor programs and their mission statements, etc... how they help with needed funds for other sports. I am a big believer in trickel down economics for college sports. The revenue sports that have success can really have an impact on the other sports.
  14. The Billiken Club is nothing like a leveled booster system. Every school has their own version of a Billiken club, but the difference is that schools that compete and are successful have programs that require serious annual capital contributions on top of a "Billiken Club." I know for a fact that Doug wanted to get a building on campus for basketball. SLU never has tried to raise seriuous money for athletics as compared to other schools, and I think that is a big reason why the fund raising is taking time.
  15. this particular valley school that has been kicking our tales up and down any court we play them has a very extensive donor program. http://siusalukis.collegesports.com/sasf/s...ing-levels.html take a look.
  16. last season I took a friend to a game and she was shocked, one with our seats and two that all we really pay is for the season tickets. She is a KU grad. and was dumfounded because never in wildest dreams can she sit that close at Allen Fieldhouse. The question: How good do you want to be?
  17. there is no right or wrong answer to this. But the questions is how good do you want the Billiken's to become. If the answer is, as I want a top 15 team, than it costs a heck of alot of money. Yeah we're not paying the players, but this money would go to sustaining a very good program year in and year out. The schools in the Final Four all have wonderful tradition with many years of success, but much of that foundation comes from loyal boosters. As a private school it is even tougher to gain revenue that helps the entire program put good products on the floor/field. I have said this from day 1, you do not need to sacrifice any standards to be successful, there just needs to be serious support from everyone.
  18. I would say that if and when any type of plan is put in stone, that it would need to be phased in over a 4 to 5 year period. BUT if we all want the Billikens to be really good, people need to realize that it costs money for that to happen. Public schools have an advantage, Private schools need to tap all possible resources and then some.
  19. My Dad and I snuck out and played some golf today and were talking about this, actually we have been throwing this around for sometime. We came to an agreement that SLU's slow fundraising might be the result of not having to raise serious captial for athletic facilities in the past as compared to other schools. Raising capital for academic projects usually has the benefit of a broad group, whereas athletics doesn't. maybe I am wrong... also the communication about what your donation is going to is lacking. IMHO on top of what money is raised to put a shovel in the ground, there needs to be booster levels that can really help sustain a very good program. I know people are not going to always agree with having to shell out good money, but if we all want to be apart of games like last weekend or even play in God willing the .... 2012 Final Four maybe in STL, there is a price to pay.
  20. I would really like people's thoughts on something. I know about the Loyal Blue... Before I go any further I will ask, How good to you want SLU basketball to be? Full well knowing that all standards and ethics will be maintained. Many sucessful D1 programs whether it's basketball or football have very extensive booster programs that feed the entire athletic department. What I mean is a segmented system of donor groups, in addition to in our case the Billken Club. With the new Arena on the drawing board, good first step, SLU needs to create a system that brings in more dollars from donors than just the Billiken Club especially since SLU is a private institution. What I am playing around with is this. Create three levels, two requiring an anual donation to the Athletic Department. First and for most all Men's BBall tickets are the same price throughout the entire building with the exception of the student section, $250.00 for a ticket for the entire season. Level A 2 choices on donation: $25,000.00 donation for the arena and that covers you for five season's in level A -or- $2,500.00 donation for the right to purchase 2 tickets between the foul lines, $5,000.00 for 4 tickets and $10,000.00 for 5 or more between the foul lines. Or the Purchase of a luxury suite. The Level A perks: 1.Priority seating at the SLU arena between the foul lines in the lower bowl. 2. Priority parking for all games in the lot just west of the building(free). 3. Invited to a preseason dinner with men's/women's bball teams. 4. Invited to 3 or 4 in season coffee's with the coaching staff. 5. The Right to purchase Priority seating for confrence/1/2 round NCAA tournament and if SLU reaches regionals or final four tickets are complimentary. 6. Choice of one of three games that you can travel with the team on the charter. Level B no arena donation required but, $1,250.00 donation required for two tickets between the foul lines the upper bowl. $2,500.00 required for 4 tickets between the foul lines in the upper bowl. $3,250.00 for 5 or more tickets. Level B perks: 1. Priority seats between the foul lines in the upper bowl. 2. Priority parking in the Olive Garage(free). 3. Media Guide 4. Priority seats for confrence/1/2 round NCAA tournament. Level C no donation required for tickets, baseline upper bowl Students behind both baskets, ticket included in tuition/meal plan I propose this because I want SLU to be a top 15 program not a top 50 and not a top 35. To be good there is a price to pay for success. SLU does not need to let in anyone that can play. Having good ethics and standards are key, but as a private school, the donor community needs to play a SIGNIFICANT role. Everyone take a deep breath, be calm give me your thoughts and look at other schools plans/concepts.
  21. I can see that happening. When we chose not to offer Ahern some people made a stink, but I would tell people (after reading Roy's reports and getting to Brad to smile and wink with how good he is) that there is a young man in Belleville and too be patient. If in some folks mind Ahern is a 10, then KL is a 25:-)
  22. unlike UK we don't average over 20k a game and don't have a season ticket base like UK. we need too push hard for the building we have on the drawing board. when the arena/center/fieldhouse is built that will give SLU basketball and furthermore SLU athletics the facility that they desperately need. the other thing is that UK is a public school and has won, I think, 7 NCAA bball titles. IMHO they can raise money for hoops whenever they need it.
