  1. Roy thinks he's a good D1 prospect: "And i agree with 3 star. if this rumor is true, i am proud of ford for being honest with him. how many greedy coaches would just promise away unconcerned. i have seen pickett a lot. and i think pickett is a fantastic D1 prospect. the billiken fandom would love him." Roy knows his basketball.
  2. "He said Missouri's top-10 recruiting class for 2017 showed him that Martin is determined to make the Tigers a national power again, which was one of the main reasons why he committed. "Just to see what they're doing with the program now, what the new coaching staff is doing, they're trying to win," he told PowerMizzou.com. "Just to see what the new coaching staff is bringing in really encourages me.""
  3. I'm sure it's devious and underhanded since Mizzou is involved, correct?
  4. Agreed. But I have to tell you, if KU could turn Ben McClemore into a 3.2 GPA student, I have to give them the nod over Mizzou. http://www2.kusports.com/news/2012/oct/21/quick-study-ben-mclemore-hit-books-hard/
  5. Anytime. I'm always happy to respond to posts about Mizzou on SLU's basketball message board.
  6. Interesting article. A big part of the problem then and now, is the hyper political faculty: "In the end, it’s not necessarily a bad thing that Mizzou is losing certain kinds of students, said Mr. Hudson, the journalism professor. He pointed to people who might criticize the group that led the 2015 demonstrations, a collective named for the year the university admitted its first black students. "Maybe," he said, "we don’t want students who aren’t open to the issues that were raised by Concerned Student 1950."" Mizzou was at record enrollment two years ago. It still has over 30,000 students. I still know many people whose kids are going there. I just spoke with a co-worker whose daughter just graduated from one of top local Catholic high schools, was near the top of her class academically and she's going to Mizzou with a lot of her friends. She looked at KU, Miami of Ohio, Indiana, SMU and still chose Mizzou. I have another co-worker whose son graduated from SLUH, had many options and just finished his freshmen year at Mizzou and apparently loves it. This certainly is a serious situation but Mizzou will survive and be just fine. Mizzou is going to have to get aggressive in recruiting students like Arkansas and some other big state schools have been doing targeting high school students in neighboring states.
  7. Wow, you've been carrying that one a long time. Frazier was one of my favorite Tigers of all time when I was relatively young, still is. And I'm no longer young. Was that the Ron Ekker (sp?) years? Pure as the driven snow.
  8. You're getting religion on recruiting now, eh Roy? I like Travis Ford. Missouri (briefly), Kentucky, UMass, OSU. He knows how to swim in those waters. He was a good hire, thought so at the time. SLU has been pretty good at hiring coaches.
  9. Yes, but it's not as much fun as actually winning outright.
  10. I think SLU/Mizzou will happen soon with Martin and Sterk both being relative newcomers. Why not. We both need reasons for our fans to turn out, and our new coaches are giving us those reasons, but another rivalry game would add to it. It seems we may compete for local recruits in the future, why not on the court as well? How do you think it should happen? Home and home? Or play at Scottrade?
  11. You guys want to play us in basketball and I heard Lovie smith on the radio during the Cardinals game tonight saying Illinois wants to play us in football. It's flattering everyone wants to play us.
  12. I have bets on Mizzou finishing better than $LU. You're right. $hould be fun.
  13. Weirdo troll, with some connections to SLU.
  14. If Steve asks me to leave I will leave voluntarily. I have that much respect for the owner of this fine establishment.
  15. Come on. Some of you seem a little thin skinned.
  16. Because of $aint Travi$ of Kentucky, your coach. Pure as the driven $now, I've heard. He got some NBA player$ to $tillwater, Oklahoma. Think about that. T. Boone Picken$ money played no role I'm $ure.
  17. They have a different standard at $LU. They hired a recruiter from O$U (T. Boone Picken$). He hired a local coach from Mi$$ouri. He's now $aint Travi$ of Kentucky via Mi$$ouri and UMa$$ and O$U and T. Boone Picken$. $aint Travi$ of Kentucky can do no wrong. After all, he bought Matt Holliday's hou$e.
  18. I am. You seem easily rattled. Don't take things personally.
  19. I'm not putting down SLU here, but it is a private University, so it's obviously more exclusive both academically and economically.
  20. That only makes sense, although that is an impressive number for a private Jesuit Catholic school.
  21. Still living? I see 10x more Mizzou gear worn around town than SLU gear. I know literally dozens if not hundreds of people who went to Mizzou, but only a handful that went to SLU.
  22. Does this mean Ford ran of the local kid who was a good student? Congrats. I thought you guys were above this.
  23. Do I as a Missouri fan think it's a bit sketchy hiring MPS and paying him $375k per year to be an assistant? Yes I do. I think it's less sketchy than Larry Brown and hallowed KU hiring Danny Manning's father off a truck to coach, notwithstanding his background as a player. It's within the rules and has been done many times over. My favorite poster here, Billiken Roy, pointed out Duke and Louisville creating jobs for parents. Coach K is considered a saint in college basketball. Folks, college basketball is sketchy. You guys are excited because you hired a recruiter, a guy who gets players. I think Ford is a good guy and good coach, but he's swam in the same waters Martin has. You can google an article about Bill Self planting himself outside the locker room at a tournament in Springfield Missouri and shouting congrats to John Wall during a dead period. Quin Snyder flew Paulding's and Johnson's parents to Columbia and said he did the same thing at Duke. I'll tell you this though, I saw a video of MPS and he's a very dynamic guy and has a great basketball background. He might be a better coach than any of us give him credit for.
