@Bay Area Billiken whose the Pope got in Fairfield vs St. Peters?

Close game so far playing in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City where the A10 once held the tournament.

With both St. Peter's and Fairfield being Jesuit schools, the Pope had to go to the next criterion, endowment:  Fairfield $433.6M;  St. Peter's $37M.  The Pope, having been labeled a socialist by some observers, accordingly picked the less endowed school, St. Peter's. And thus, St. Peter's won the game 68-63 and snared the MAAC's NCAA Automatic Bid.

When the A10 Tourney was played at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, one wondered if a Bert Parks hologram was going to appear to present the A10 Championship Trophy, and perhaps sing There She Is, Miss America.

  2. OT - We attended The Neil Diamond Musical - A Beautiful Noise last night on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre.  The show was just outstanding.  Its run on Broadway ends June 30, and then the show is going on the road.

If you are in New York City on or before that time, or if the show comes thereafer to an area near you, Ms. BAB and I highly recommend it.  We saw Neil Diamond himself in concert at the old St. Louis Arena (Checkerdome) in the 1980's.

Earlier in the day we attended the matinee session of the Big East Quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden, saw defending National Champion UConn, followed by Coach Rick Pitino and his St. John's Red Storm.

It was as perfect of a day as imaginable in The Big Apple.

  3. NCAA NET's after games played 3/14/24:

Dayton 22, Indiana State 28. Those both should be easily qualifying NET's for NCAA Tourney At Large Bids for both.  But will either or both be?  Will one or both get snubbed?

Dayton is 3-4 vs. Quad 1;  Indiana State is 1-4 vs. Quad 1.  But Indiana State is the Regular Season MVC Champion, whereas Dayton was a 3rd Place team in the A10.

Conference NET:  The A10 is #8.  The MVC fell behind the American Athletic (AAC) overnight to #10.  The AAC is now #9.

Do we have any fans there?

A few, about 50 last night. The box office agent was mixed up. We’re in same section as last night, Section 9, sharing with La Salle behind SLU Bench, which is right side of tv screen.

Depends on how the Pope’s wagers  played out.

The Pope would never bet against one of his Catholic teams, would he? That would rank right up there with a self-proclaimed Billiken fan rooting against the Billikens and hoping they lose.

No I don’t. I completely understand what you were going for. It’s just that it was neither clever, humorous, or original.

You are not the judge of that. Although you want to be, you never will be.

I am pretty sure you do not have sources in the Vatican either, I most certainly do not. The US currently has 13 cardinals, maybe some of them follow college basketball and are happy about those wins.

NY Cardinal Dolan over at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, who is from STL, was no doubt happy with both the Fordham and SLU wins.

I don't think I need a source to assert a belief. Considering my statement is 100 times less absurd than yours I am still awaiting basis for why some old f*cks in Rome care about college basketball.

You have a fundamental failure to understand a simple lighthearted, innocuous comment, as evidenced by your 100% response of the absurd. Lighten up and stand down.

And what is your basis for such a claim? Do you have sources in The Vatican?

The Pope is a Jesuit. SLU and Fordham are both Jesuit schools. Fordham is ranked #89 overall in the US News & World Report College Rankings. SLU is #105.

Of course, “expert” elements on this board for years have demanded Fordham’s expulsion from the A10. Do these elements also have Vatican sources?

Is this what the play in games are like?!? Watching la salle and GW.  Neither team looks like they want to win nor cares to really be there.  Just jogging up and down, and token defense.  Looks like an SNL skit..

Fordham vs. Davidson was full energy. But it helped having 2,000-3,000 excited public school kids, from ~29 middle schools, in the stands screaming and waiving red pom poms.

  11. Fordham WINS❗

That’s for all the “experts” on this board that have demanded the expulsion from the A10 of The Jesuit University of New York, the University that hails from the World’s Greatest City, the Media Capital of the World, and the Nation’s #1 TV market.

This is a different game than it was in the 70s and 80s, even the 90s. You had sleazeball coaches everywhere paying guys, you name it, sure. It was not professionalized with insane coaching salaries, luxury accommodations, and comfortable salaries for players like it is now. This is professional sports. When the Cards and Blues suck we don't feel sorry for them. We're pissed. Same here.

This is like watching Tony Banks year after year. It's just infuriating.

I think a lot of the old guys that feel this way are reaching back for what they grew up watching, and it's gone. That era is over.

His is not the name to bring up today.
