Not sure if he has respect here but now Floyd Irons is pumping ahearn on radio shows.    Unsure of the fascination

This a problem we have here - we tend to eat our young.  It is hard to be successful when you got people in the community looking out for their own situation or want some type of retribution for what you perceive has been a slight to you.  Not sure what kind of influence Irons still has but you can bet he will be telling local players not to come here.

Yeah, I'm not sure if there were hard feelings or not, but someone like him (or Turnbull) would really seem to fit the Schertz offense well. I was told that Schertz wants to bring his starting five. Keep Jimerson and bring in another capable stretch five to pair with Avila and we'd be in pretty good shape.

The person to have hard feelings with is no longer here.

His brother coaches at AZ State.

I know but just because your brother does one thing doesn't mean you will.  He has always been on the east coast.

Time to consider Floyd Irons if everybody else rejects their offers. All V grads would flock to Chaifetz. (That's if they really graduate).

I know you were thinking you were being funny but it was poor attempt.

    1. If the MoU exists, and multiple media reported that it does, then he isn't staying at ISU. The idea of him still deciding is really just Terre Haute media playing the party line and keeping the fan base happy during the NIT run.

    2. One MBM saying that is not really credible IMO. If the deal is as done as we want it to be with a MoU then the last thing you want to do is piss off Schertz by word leaking that you are talking to someone else. I doubt May is talking to anyone at this point!

    3. If the chances are 98% at this point, waiting till after ISU loses in the semi-finals moves it to what, 97%. If they win the whole thing it goes to 96.5%? Not sure how this falls apart but it is definitely going to last until at least April 2 and likely the way they are playing, April 4th. Just turn off the computer and check back in on April 5th.

So, in summary nothing I said is actually wrong - correct.

I like to go about these things by asking, what would a rational human being do?  Through most of this process, Mr Schertz has been revealed as a rational human.

    1.  His friend is interested in the UofL job, but receives death threats from that crazy fan base.  Schertz, seemingly acting as a rational human, probs doesn’t want to be exposed to that too.
    2. Why would Schertz give a significant pay raise for one last hoorah at a salary that may be comparable to the SLU offer, but doubtful.
    3.  Most rational people prefer certainty (a significant pay raise over several years) vs uncertainty (coming back for one year and if things backfire, his chance at that same significant raise could be gone)

And one last thing, who the heck wants to live in Terra Haute when you can live in St Louis and enjoy all the Bud Select you’d like?

I believe someone posted that ISU was raising his salary from 350 to 800K.  We reportedly are paying 2 million - a big delta.

  7. 1.  If he decides to stay at ISU what happens to the buyout in the MoU? - does ISU pay it?  - or does it just not trigger?

    2.  I believe someone posted that May has still been interviewing - not sure who was mentioned.

    3.  I am still of the mind that the longer this goes the chances of us getting him drop - doesn't mean he won't come just that the chances decrease.

For all the people who don't like KenPom or advanced stats, 13 of the top 14 teams in KenPom are in the Sweet 16. Only one team below 23rd, NC State, made it this far.

Well picking the top 14 to be in the Sweet 16 is a bit like betting a horse to show but I understand what you are saying - his metrics are good.

  9. A 4 million buy out for a coach who never worked here is very smart on SLU part.  At this point, we still have options but late next week maybe not so much.  To fair to Schertz, he has never said that he wants out of the SLU MoU.  I know some people are excited for Schertz and ISU to win the NIT but it really is not in our best interest but of course we posters have no control of this matter.  I still think getting this over sooner rather than later is best for SLU.

Disagree. we should be done choosing coaches based on who we think stays the longest. If Schertz comes with his guys, we are A10 favorites next season. Make a tournament, and if Schertz jumps we are a much more attractive landing spot for someone like Mack/whoever the next big MM coach is next season.

You really don't want to be looking for a new coach in one year.  I am not talking about hiring someone who stays 8 or 10 years just one who will stay 3 years before he parlays it into a P 5 job.  All this will take is to start off with somebody who is glad to be here at least now and not feeling trapped.

We got the short end of the buyout-stick with Travis.  We better not go easy now and not get some $$$$ (if it ends up going the way of Louisville wanting/paying for Schertz…I’m still confident he’ll be on the Bills sideline next season tho)

Here is the problem with Schertz feels like he lost out of a lot of money then he will be looking to leave as soon as he can anyway.  We may be better off letting him go for a good pay out and find someone who will stay for 3 or more years.

In the last hour both Jeff Goodman and  Pat Forde have tweeted about Richard Pitino being involved at Louisville. Now this article:

    https://247sports.com/college/louisville/article/josh-heird-rick-pitino-richard-pitino-has-emerged-as-a-top-candidate-for-the-louisville-job-229376705/

Honestly, for a program like U of L Pitino is not that glitzy looking at his resume.  I am not saying he is bad just that he is while not a poor choice but he not a knock your socks off guy they they think they are going to get.

Louisville reportedly offering Schertz $3.5M. Contract at SLU reportedly at or just above $2M/6 years.

Schertz signed with SLU which makes it very difficult for him to get out of this.
Whether he wants to or is trying to is up in the air. I believe Louisville lawyers are trying to find a way for him to get out of it.

Any contract can be broken for right price.  If he has signed with us and now he wants out then he has to pay up or at least somebody does and I don't mean peanuts.  I get at least half the contract which if what is reported is true would be 6 million.  If he really does want out then trying to force him to stay will only end badly for us and him so give him an out but one that makes it worth our while.

I do not wish to offend anyone, but after having read the discussion going on I do not feel certain we will get Schertz. I am also quite concerned that May is well on the way to blow this recruitment. However, I can think of something good coming  from May blowing Schertz recruitment and having no backup plan. I think that May could gain a pink slip andd be let go if he blows this recruitment.

I am not sure he is not coming or is coming but I have said along that the longer this plays out the less chance we get him.  I hope SLU has a backup plan and are working on it.  I say SLU because I really don't think they are letting May run this show this time.
