  1. Those were honorable days. Days before the $$’s were small. Now the $$’s rule the day. It’s the Wild West out there a gold rush with back shooters and claim jumpers ( see UL). I have a suspicion that McCollum has been the backup guy all along. My reasoning: 1) McCollum told MOSt your facilities suck. What D2 guy is gonna pass up a chance to make the jump to D1 over facilities? Schertz didn’t mind ISU’s facilities. 2.) Schertz at the D2 level made the final 4 3 times yet never won it all. McCollum’s won 4 of them babies. 3.) Obviously they both can coach and evaluate talent. Yet, neither has taken a team dancing. Schertz is 0-3. McCollum TBD at 0-0. 4.) SLU knew they’d have to go large for Schertz and his 4-5 players. Not so much with McCollum, maybe a $.5 mil less in salary. Plus, he may have a player or 2 to bring that wouldn’t require another $1mm or so to bring with him. D2 players have surprised at the D1 level. 5) There were rumors WVU was interested in McCollum. Who are we to ignore the interest of a previous successful B12 program in a D2 coach? 6) Hoops is hoops. You can either coach it or you can’t. You can either motivate or you can’t. You can either recruit the right guys to your system or you can’t. 7.) If May played UL and other P6’s like a fish to land the guy he wanted all along, McCollum, but wanted some P6 school to pay us, he’s a fricking genius and should challenge Sparkoff to a chess match. I don’t believe he did, but if he did give him a raise. Finally other D2 coaches have achieved much at the D1 level. See Schertz, Buelein, et al. McCollum seem to be a chip off the old block. If we get McCollum I won’t be disappointed. Although, I prefer Wade.
  2. B’roy, give up the morality play. There are no morals anymore in college sports. If there were Schertz would have put this circus to rest by saying I signed with SLU end of story and UL would not be poaching him. These days it’s every man for himself. Ethics and honor are out the window. We may not like it but it’s the world we live in these days. Wade’s won wherever he’s been and, now with NIL, he doesn’t need to cheat. Let him follow in the footsteps of Sampson and Pearl and bring us a winner.
  3. I don’t think Kelsey will leave CoC for us. He wants a P5 job. Wade might view us as stepping stone back to the P6. Bucky from Samford ain’t a bad backup plan. And McCollum’s a winner.
  4. I like him. Think Sampson at UH and Pearl at Auburn. Two ex cons who’ve done well. Forget the old days it’s a new dawn.
  5. Tell UL we’ll let him out but they gotta buy him out for around $6mil. That ought to fund NIL pretty well for a few years.
  6. I don’t think the UL fan base is gonna be overjoyed if Schertz gets hired. No dance invites. Yes he can coach and has some good players. But are they ACC level players? After Crum, UL had Pitino and Mack both proven major D1 coaches. I’ve been to two games at old Freedom Hall and UL fans are fanatics. The last game was in 2000 and the Bills trounced them. They were screaming for Crum’s head one of their most successful coaches. I just don’t think they’re gonna see Schertz as a guy who’s gonna restore their once glorious past.
  7. UL whiffed on Mays. I’m not sure the UL fan base will agree that Schertz is a big enough backup.
  8. I think it was more about what he expected. If we’re in a triple A league in today’s college hoops world he’s been contacted by mostly 1 A teams.
  9. Death threats? We talking Death threats? We talking ‘bout death threats, here? Oh, yeah, hold my beer while I sign up for death threats.
  10. One year at Utah St and sayanora. Precautionary note: it could happen here.
  11. Again, the master of the obvious. What else can we do but wait?
  12. I googled the carousel for latest updates. Every time UL’s list comes up Schertz doesn’t make it. Some that do; Cronin, Kelse, Dixon and others. If it’s not Schertz there are other promising candidates. Here’s hoping we didn’t put all our Easter eggs in the Schertz basket.
  13. His daughter is going to attend Vandy to play Volleyball. If he wants to be close to her, I can’t imagine being closer than becoming the Commodores HC. Pretty sure he’d get to see every game.
  14. I just read that on CBS sports. Not mentioned in any of the P6 openings.
  15. It’s not a good look to cheer against ISU. If they win the NIT good for them. Look either way he goes, he’s doing what he thinks is best for his family and career. If he spurns SLU, and I hope we have taken this as a possibility, that we have approached some backups. A new coach is always a gamble. Toss NIL into the mix and you further muddy the waters. The attraction to Schertz is not only his coaching abilities at this point, but who he might bring with him. He doesn’t want to show up here or any place else empty handed. So, I’d guess he has given a number for what it would take to bring his guys or some of them. Avila for instance is probably attracting interest from some bigs. If UL really wants Schertz there’s little likelihood we could match UL for him and Avila, et al. I’d also bet Schertz has discussed this with his guys and has got their input on how much it will take and where they’d prefer to showcase themselves. If he’s UL guy, he and his guys that come with him are gonna face an uphill battle in the ACC. Duke, UNC, UVA, NCST, et al ain’t the MVC. Is UL counting on a starting MVC lineup to really be competitive right out of the gate in the ACC? I think not. And if they don’t get it turned around quickly their fan base is gonna be PO’d. Still, it’s Schertz’s decision. Good luck, he seems like a decent guy.
  16. I’d agree the UL wants a splash hire to excite the base, but unless they play poach a coach splash mid major hires are really not out there now that Mays is off the board. I think they want a guy who has a track record in the dance. The San Diego coach might be attractive to them since the MWC is a hot conference. Schertz might do well there but is he gonna get Cardinal fans all hot and bothered? That said, this Trllly guy seems to have some pretty good sources. Question for SLU is who are the backups? Kelse, McMillan, Wade, McCollum, who ?????
  17. Cronin? They have the resources to poach a coach, ie Pearl, Musselman, or possibly bring Donovan back to College ball.
  18. ACC, 18k arena, tradition, lots of NIL $$’s, yeah that’s a lot to overcome.
  19. Then move on to next mid coach. There are many out that can coach. If Schertz eyes are bigger than his stomach take about a half mil from what we were going to give him and drop it into the NIL bucket. Bucky McMillan looks appealing.
  20. I share your concern. The longer this hunt goes on and the more P6 openings occur Schertz’s options will increase. Again, I hope we have plans B, C, and D. We all want Plan A but we better be exploring other options.
  21. Harriman has the connection to Curcic and SVB. Also the French player. By the way is he still in StL or did he leave?
  22. Even if Tate hits on these guys what really can he say or offer? Nice to start a relationship but w/o the real decision maker does it mean much?! Sorry to see Harriman wasn’t kept around. Good guy who’s not been lucky with his various teams.
  23. Sincere ranked 21st by CBS.
  24. Gibby ranked #7 in CBS top 25 portal transfers.
  25. Oakland’s sixth man sniper blew UK out of the water. You can bet the farm Gibby will draw serious interest and some hefty NIL offers before all is sad and done. UVA is offensively challenged and 24 year old sharp shooters don’t grow on trees. He’ll be a top 25 guy in the portal for sure. Our hope is he stays patient and waits to see who our HC is and what his plans for Gibby are.
