  1. Memphis students had a large section behind the home bench. They seemed to stand the whole game, but were'nt very loud
  2. TheBand at center court, a la the Kentucky Band at Rupp Arena? I want to remain in a similar location to where we are at Kiel. I'd hate to see us swapped with the students or blue crew. People may not see us being crazy, but ask any of those guys sitting on the visitor bence, we're pretty good about getting into their heads without resorting to telling people "they suck" like some resort to. Anyone catch te USA Today article from last friday? It concerned the foul languages used at many college arenas. A sidebar story about the Big 10 concerned me. They have instuted a "three strike" system with student groups. 1 strike means a private warning. 2 strikes result in a public warning from the league to the school. 3 means banishment. One part of the story included the rule eliminating students chanting for specific players (ie "no means, no" and "dui" based on whatever that player did) . That kinda bugs me, cause if you can't get in a guys head without being obscene, then what good is a home court?
  3. Well, John Hadley is at it again. Check his website down toward the bottom "DA Billikens" http://www.hadleyonsports.com/getReport_af...182426&size=595
  4. Its also a lot easier for these guys to downplay people they know nothing about. They make prognostications about doom and gloom on every little thing, and that allows them to say "see, look at how smart I am, i predicted this". Anytime these type of guys get one thing right out of the hundreds of predictions, they crow about their accuracy. Its all rumor and innuendo that most of these guys report. The sad thing is that we sports fans with the fast pace news moves in cyberspace are salivating for more and more tidbits and are quick to jump in with someone who will feed us those morsels.
  5. Half Page ad for men's and women's hoops in the U News this week. Ad includes upcoming men's and women's schedule including giveaway nights and tv coverage (odd, the ad includes the INNACCURATE note that the Marquette game will be on ESPN2) Ths ad lists the reasons kids should go to the game: Transportation Quality Team Quality Opponents Great Facility Great Atmosphere Now what's your excuse? -My only complaint is that the ad doesnt mention free tix for students and a place to pick the tickets up.
  6. http://www.foxsports.com/content/view?contentId=2115490 MEBANE, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina basketball recruit and the state's all-time leading scorer was arrested Wednesday on drug charges, Alamance County officials said.
  7. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/college...p-2944613c.html Carolina is working to get all their students to wear "Carolina Blue" for their game against Duke tomorrow. I find it humorous to see that they have a problem with the older alumni not wearing school colors just like we do. A couple years back SLU did this for the game against Charlotte for the fans. wouldnt it be nice to do that for the Marquette game or the 'ville game. This Charlotte writer has an idea to get his fans involved, http://charlotte.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=264039
  8. T-Tech announced a suspension for Knight. 5 days. Tech plays Baylor tonite and Kansas on Sat.
  9. Boy, Barbara Berger of Chesterfield, MO needs to take a look at the unwelcoming folks at Maryland. http://www.inform.umd.edu/News/Diamondback...1/30/news3.html I like the following from Scott Van Pelt a Maryland alum ad ESPN guy...this is why the band does research and doesn't just resort to yelling "you suck" at other teams as some student organizations are want to do -That is the problem, Van Pelt said. Students no longer adapt, or research. They simply try to degrade the opponent into submission, and in the process, become vulgar. "Are you kidding? Are you joking? 'F--- you, [J.J.]?' The guy comes in here and abuses us, and that's your response?" Van Pelt said last weekend, still fuming. "Do you go back to your dorm room and get a hard-on thinking, 'Man, I really gave it to Redick tonight'? No, no. He gave it to you, dude. He torched you for 26 and he left. I'm embarrassed to say that this is what it's come to."
  10. Has been speculated on for quite some time. http://www.sportsline.com/general/story/7046956 Would begin play in 05-06. News conferece set for this afternoon. And for people complaining about us moving conferences The Mountain West would be TCU's fourth conference in 10 years. After the Southwest Conference dissolved in 1995, TCU joined the Western Athletic Conference for five years and then left for Conference USA just 2½ years ago.
  11. Roy, thanks. Passed along that message. I was shocked that he didn't know the difference between Sagarin and RPI and that he ignored your point about non-conference scheduling. Thanks again for the info.

  13. I believe the university simply wants to be referred to as Charlotte. Its kinda like Southwest Missouri State wanting to be referred to as SMS. It may not be an official name change, but i bet it will be official at some point.
  14. According to Sporting News Radio: He had chest pains last night and flew to see his cardiologist in CA. Report says that UTAH announced he'll resign at end of year, but sources say that he's done now and will not return. Stress of coaching ruining his health (eating habits probably dont help either). Utes are 15-5.
  15. Very well done by Stu. Interesting to see that the high of slu studentseason tix wasn't really that high, only about 1,100 and down to 350 last season and 600 now. I bet 1/2 of those 600 aren't used on a regular basis. Also, Stu doesn't mention the type of activity that Tom Crean at Marquette did for the general students occuring at SLU. Crean held regular informal conversations with students and really focused on getting the students involved. SLU seems (according to article) only to have offered events to BlueCrew members. I mentioned this problem a while back, nice to see that I wasn't the only one who saw this situation as a problem (and its easily fixable if you keep the busses running throughout the game) "It turns into an all-night event," student Luke Krispinsky said. "If you have homework and stuff, it's a three- or 3 1/2-hour thing. If you wanted to leave at halftime, you can't do that." All in all, nice job Stu
  16. I have to question you on your '1380 is Tiger Radio' comment. I certainly havent heard much pro-Tiger talk there and one of the hosts of the afternoon show is the PBP guy for the Lady Billikens. He's always raving about SLU. Heck, the only pro Mizzou stuff is spouted by Demetrius Johnson and he's an occasional guest at best, not a regular one. Mo Scott tonite was quite complimentary to SLU during the segment I heard and McKenna was quite adament about his support of Soderberg. Give them a try, they are a nice alternative to the other station down the dial and James Brown's show has the best national guests on a daily basis.
  17. On 1380 on the Pulitzer publication for their continued placement of Billiken stories below Mizzou stories. Kind of funny. He says "Does the Columbia Tribune give top placement to SLU? Why the hell should I care about a team thats not in my hometown" Good stuff
  18. do a good job in a PA setting is Brian Stull. He's the regular PA guy for the Steamers as well as the indoor football team in St Chuck. Very strong voice and knows when to get excited but is always professional and doesn't ad lib poorly like Guy sometimes does. Bring him in for a tryout. just my $.02
  19. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/7027545 Gotta question the reporter's timing on his NCAA Tourney expectations question.
  20. I like the timing of that L'ville game as well; late in the season, bills just off a big road win with tulane and a close one with cincy. Should be a good time to get a large crowd.

  22. Doing some research for the band and cheerleaders room accomodations. Any suggestions on locations to stay in cincy? We've stayed virtually every where when the tourney has been there and really havent found a place that we want to stick with. Thoughts? We're looking for reasonable, not Westin or Ritz type of prices.
  23. It certainly could be true that more students are attending the soccer matches, However, I think that since the venue is smaller (6,000 seats compared to 22,000) a student section of 500 at the larger venue will appear smaller than those same 500 at the smaller venue.
  24. http://www.kusports.com/news/w_bball/story/109055 "KU coach Marian Washington said MU players made obscene gestures to the Jayhawks and that her players were spat on by Mizzou's band" Well, if Barbara Berger hates us, at least we don't cross this line.
  25. Kosha serves as the event director at men's basketball games.
