Recruit (1/7)

  1. I show the game listed on 630 on Direct TV.
  2. I know that was a tough game, but please don't burn your tickets. My family and I will be in St. Louis for Christmas and I would love a couple of tickets to see the Billikens play. 12/22 Northeastern Thanks
  3. No team starting 3 freshman has any chance of staying with Duke. If we had hit a couple of those early 3s it would have kept us in contact for a while. On the bright side Jett and McCall found out that they can play agaist the best team in the country. Evans and Loe had some moments and they all got to see how a top division players need to play and that those Duke boys obviously spend a lot of time in the weight room. The disipline of the Duke team and the way they responded to coach K should also be an eye opener to our guys. The score is about what I expected though I had hoped for a few more 3s. Overall our freshmen performed better than I had expected. I think it is a game to build on. Though we obviously have a long way to go, especially if we don't get KM and WR back.
  4. If it is true that RM sat CE down to get his attention. He sent a message to the whole team that when coach says something in practice he means it. Hopefully Cody and the rest of the team buy into RM and his system. Its tough to win any game with all of these freshman playing. CE has to play solid defense for us to win. It would have taken him playing a tough physical defense and team free throws to win this last game.
  5. I am still trying to adjust to the idea of a 6'11" guy being the best FT shooter and taking the tech foul shots. When was the last time a 6'11" freshman was the best FT shooter on any division 1 team?
  6. Sorry I fumbled the previous post. I have not said that all students should become Catholic. The moral values that I have raised are held by all major Christian faiths. I don't expect all student, athletes or otherwise to be perfect. The actions that night were far from perfect and I am concerned about the spiritual damage. I think all of the major Christian faiths would call for or at least hope for some sort of reconciliation. My hope is that the young people that night would look at their conduct that night and say "I didn't do anything wrong". I would hope this view is not considered extreme Catholicism. I don't think the players should have been expelled. Maybe suspended for a few games and or probation. Repentence should be followed by forgiveness and the players should have been given a second chance on campus.
  7. If players were subjected to that kind of preaching at Catholic schools, all Catholic schools would have to move to a lower division- Kevin Lisch only comes along once every decade, or maybe longer. SLU might be a Catholic school but it can't force all students to practice Catholicism (and hardcore Catholicism if Floridafan had his way) or prevent them from practicing another faith or none at all.
  8. I am not a priest or a Gator fan. I have been a big Billiken Basketball fan since Rich Grawer started coaching the team. I thought Craig Upchurch was not fairly treated and I don't think these players have been fairly treated. Given the police reports, I think they should still be in school, possibly faced game suspensions and possibly probation, but not expulsion. My comments about faith are in keeping with those of the SLU mission statement. The Mission of Saint Louis University is the pursuit of truth for the greater glory of God and for the service of humanity.... As a Catholic, Jesuit University, this pursuit is motivated by the inspiration and values of the Judeo-Christian tradition and is guided by the spiritual and intellectual ideals of the Society of Jesus. The truth is the conduct was morally reprehensible. If this young lady and or young men had stronger moral compasses, none of this would have happened and we would be dreaming of a trip to the Big Dance.
  9. I feel bad for all of the students involved in the dorm incident. I know most on this board lament the punishment handed out to the players and the impact that is having on the team. Rather than expulsions, I would have been much happier with confession to a priest and a commitment to change thier lives. More important than the student’s academic and sport careers, I am concerned about their immortal souls. God's punishment for this type of conduct is very harsh for the unrepentant and just because such conduct is common place, does not make it right. I hope the young women and men involved in this incident get their lives back on a track that leads to salvation and conduct that they can be proud of. The casual sex, "no harm no foul" attitude doesn't work, someone always gets harmed and it really blew up a lot of lives in this particular episode. I pray they come to a more spiritual understanding of their actions and seek forgiveness for their selfish conduct. I loved watching these players score points in games and deliver Billiken wins, but more than that, when all is said and done, I really want to see them in heaven. 10. If Willy’s account of the events is accurate, what did he do wrong and what should he apologize for? I believe he is guilty of a lack of chivalry – a sin of omission. A godly man, a good Catholic man or a gentleman though rare today, would have and should have escorted the intoxicated young woman to her residence and left her at the door. That would have left reputations and careers in tack.
