ute98
As a first time poster on this board, I feel that it is my duty to explain the complexity and brillance of the best coach in college basketball. As a Utah season ticket holder, I was lucky enough to watch Majerus reconstruct Utah's program into a Top 15 perennial powerhouse. Remember that Utah is a basketball waste land in terms recruits, and basketball recognition. Majerus's fourteen year run is remarkable considering that he went to the Sweet 16 four times, the Elite 8 twice, and played for a national championship in 1998. He built the Utah program on 1/2 star recruits. Majerus can teach the game better than any coach in the nation. Majerus can find recruits that are under the radar, and make them into players. If the current recruits buy into his system completely, I guarantee that Majerus will lead them to the promise land in next 3 years. Keep in mind that the current Billiken roster is predominently freshman. Majerus teaches the team concept, and until these players commit to defense and rebounding, they will never be good! This Majerus quote sums it all up, "Shooting is mercurial, but defense and rebounding are a constant. Billiken fans should enjoy the Majerus run while it lasts, because you will never have a coach that paces the sidelines of Chaifeitz Arena like Majerus again. TRUST ME I KNOW... Ute 98 Thanks, Ute- I said in another post that a coach needs a solid 3 years before he can truly be evaluated. I wish I had this perspective to back it up. I guess we just live in an age of instant gratification and short memories. SLU fans have waited decades for a good program- what's a little more time? Give the man a couple years. If anyone can do it, he can.
