kwyjibo Posted October 21, 2003 Share Posted October 21, 2003 This got lost in the board transition: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2164840 So this appears to Banowsky's vision for new C-USA: C-USA NASCAR ____________CUSA RODEO Memphis . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . SMU S. Miss . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . TCU East Carolina . . . . . . . . . . . . Houston UAB . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Tulsa Cent Fla . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Rice Marshall . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Tulane I am not terribly impressed with Banowsky's Texas focus. This all seems setup to reduce his commute (currently Dallas to Chicago). The problem as I see it is this is not a very good basketball conference. It is a real shame that CUSA started as a vision to give traditional basketball powers that had lost a little lustre their sparkle back and ends(?) up a Tuesday night college football hotbed. It does not even seem very stable as the Mountain West appears ready to ****** some WAC teams and possibly TCU. Domino recap (I guess I need a flowchart for this): ACC ----takes three----> Big East ----takes 5----> CUSA ----takes 3---->WAC ----takes ?----> Sun Belt ----??? CUSA ----takes two----> MAC ----??? MWC ----takes ? -----> CUSA? WAC? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
billiken_roy Posted October 21, 2003 Share Posted October 21, 2003 actually objectively, i think the proposed conference usa makes a hell of a lot more sense. it is a little more geographically friendly (not much), and it undoubtedly takes out the basketball only fraction. granted it isnt slu's cup of tea by any means now as it will sink in the rpi rankings badly now, but overall it does make more sense. not everyone can be a big fish in everything, and once they turned their back on basketball it was time for slu, marquette, depaul and charlotte to go.
