  1. I agree to a certain extent. Hard to develop rivalries when you are losing to teams in your conference. If the local teams can increase the talent level of their teams that will bring the fans back. You already see the excitement for Mizzou and SLU fans for the upcoming year. Yes, Illinois has the edge for the moment but they aren't far ahead. If Martin and Ford can bring in a couple good classes they can even the playing field locally. And if everything is equal i don't see STL kids going to Illinois imo.
  2. Lol you would be wrong in assuming i am a Mizzou fan. As i stated i will watch MU games as well as attend a few SLU games. I know many of the local boys that are mentioned in these posts. I don't have or want any influence over where they attend college. I do hear things tho. I hope everything goes according to plan for SLU. Good to see the excitement for the program. We shall see how things go. I will save my comments on this subject for a later date.
  3. I don't have any motives lol. Just a basketball fan. But if it makes you uncomfortable i won't discuss it again. Enjoy your Saturday
  4. We shall see. I hope so. The more good basketball around here the better.
  5. Gordon and Thatch haven't signed yet. As we have seen...kids change their mind. It's cool not to care about Mizzou..but what if one of next years commits has a change of heart and wants to go to Mizzou. Will you care then?
  6. I don't believe SLU is trying to get Tilmon anymore. They tried during the early signing period. SLU fans should be very concerned about Mizzou and Coach Martin...this year and definitely next year. He has given kids a potential alternative to SLU and Illinois. An opportunity to stay close to home and play in a Power 5 conference in their home state.
  7. Obviously i wasn't comparing coaching history. The topic was coaches hiring fathers. All of those coaches have done it.
  8. Lol oh i totally get it. I might have missed the article you posted with the critics of Coach Martin's hiring practices. The hiring of fathers is becoming a common practice. Whether it should be or not is a seperate issue. If you want to question a man's integrity...fine, have at it. I suggest you focus more on what's going on locally than in Columbia.
  9. Lol i tell you what. I hope you are as consistent in your thoughts with EVERY school. When i see recruits wardrobes change dramatically and are now riding around in cars...that alarms me a whole lot more.
  10. Can't wait for your ESPN 30 for 30 on the topic. You guys question his virtue and integrity. We get it already lol. You wouldn't want Martin, Calipari, Self, Pastner, or Larry Brown coaching your program. Or for that matter Jim Harbaugh if SLU had a football program because these coaches have done this as well. Remember when hiring AAU coaches to college staffs were frowned upon for the same reason...they were considered payoffs as well? Question for the SLU faithful. Can someone give me a projected starting 5 with the players we know will be there next year. Thanks
  11. I think it's a good fit. Pickett would be another high motor guy like Goodwin and French. I know his parents originally preferred he stay close to home but i also believe he wants to go somewhere he can get minutes as well. Like some of the other posters have said it seems to be a lot of wing players on the roster already with one more to come next year in Thatch. Has anyone heard anything about SLU being interested in Marshawn Blackmon? He redshirted last year because of injury and is transferring from Eastern Illinois.
  12. Lol. Speaking of changing the facts I am not a Mizzou fan. I will watch them this year because i like Porter Jr and have coached against him in the past. I have known Goodwin since 7th grade...Pickett since 4th. I am a fan of these young men. Many in the 2017 Class i have coached throughout the years. I am proud of all them. Thank you @CBFan...for the kind words. I spoke on Coach Martin's behalf because the things we KNOW to be true are common practices. People are in here trying to tell a grown man where and when he can visit his sister lol. ESL has a really talented sophomore that i am sure Martin was there to recruit. @3star_recruit made a good point because i know when Weber's job status was in question after the AD took another job Stockard became aware of certain schools that would be interested if he asked for his release. But hey what do i know...i am apparently just a Mizzou fan here to stir it up lol.
  13. Just curious..but would that be similar to Ford hiring Tate to help secure getting Goodwin and other players from the Eagles where Tate used to coach. Goodwin was reportedly leaning towards Mizzou until Tate left. Nah, what am i thinking, I am sure it was Ford's amazing recruiting skills.
  14. So when Romar got fired and Michael Porter Jr tweeted that he was hurt by the firing because he was looking forward to doing something special there next year...he was lying?
  15. OR when you make a statement like that you could give some factual information as to why the fans would question his integrity.
  16. Why are you talking about Tennessee? He didn't leave Tennessee for Mizzou. He left California to come closer to home. What's sketchy about Porter and Tilmon? Porter is the MAN in Columbia. He won a state championship before he left...he has sisters that go the University. Obviously he isn't driven by chasing after the "Big Schools". I believe Virginia was in the running as well. As for Tilmon...Tilmon has always been indecisive. He changed his mind on AAU teams...leaving MOKAN (playing with Porter) for the Eagles. Going to Luminere then going back to Eastside. Everytime he makes a change he gets quiet and you don't here from him. Early signing period...he didn't sign...guess what happened? You didn't hear anything from him. Schools were trying to get him. Perhaps...and this might be radical thinking but maybe people from East St Louis and his immediate family feel more comfortable sending him to Mizzou (possibly) where there is a head coach who is an Alumni from East Side.
  17. Maybe Coach Martin is taking the Coach Ford approach. This is Coach Ford's fifth coaching job, correct? How do you know it wasn't the right fit but factors changed after receiving the job. Once again, not sure how we got to questioning a man's integrity. I wish Coach Ford and Coach Martin much success this season.
  18. With that logic why would Gordon and Goodwin choose SLU over better offers?? Sometimes being home is best.
  19. I think Romar's win/loss record is what killed him lol. He had a lot of talent over the last few years. 1st rd picks the last three years with nothing to show for it.
