  1. Did Mizzou run an offense the last few games? It wasn't stand around and watch someone shoot? I haven't seen Missouri since the Illinois game and I'm curious to find out how they are scoring points...
  2. Most of the people(roughly 1/2) live on campus not by choice but because of DC/maryland housing cost-it is not for the campus life. Commuter school may be the wrong adjective but in the area, GW just isn't as prestigous, or desired as G'Town or UMD.
  3. You have to realize what type of school GW is...a commuter school in downtown D.C. The Terps are less than 10 Miles from GW. So who is going to get the attention? A former National Champ or the A-10 Tourney Champs. ACC vs. A-10?? Besides that D.C. doesn't have alot of personality besides the Redskins, so getting enthusiasm for this team will be a long process (years of success).
  4. Brad has ties to Wisconsin, loosely because his old boss is at Wash St but anybody who can give SLU more athleticism and skill is a plus.
  5. I will not argue that JJ is a better rebounder, my point was that JJ is NOT a great shooter from 18' in or 40' in for that matter. Too much credit is being given to a guy hitting less that 37% of his shots. I think IV, the Freshmen and Brad are the reasons that SLU are winning games they should and staying close in others. JJ hasn't really distinguished himself.
  6. Denote the sarcasm in my subject line. There must be someone from JJ's family posting on this board. Justin Johnson is shooting 36.8% from the field this year. In the big games that SLU has had he has clunked from outside. He is not a good outside shooter. He has not saved SLU's team and personally, I think Vashaun should be in there instead (at least he can hit a 15' jump shot accurately). He has not made more that 3FG in a game this year and shot over 50%. SIUC- 1/4 FG UNC- 1/6 FG Ole Miss- 1/6 FG Gonzaga- 4/11 FG Iowa- 2/6 Bonnies- 5/12 We lost to UNC, Ole Miss, Gonzaga, Iowa...games that a good player might help us overcome. I am at a loss to figure out what I am missing. Is there a different JJ on the team? I read on a previous post- "JJ--where would we be w/o him? Encouraging not only for the rest of this season, but next year when he teams with Obi. Very good jumper from 18' in, BUT needs to learn a move to the basket as they come out to guard his jumper. Like his intensity on the boards! Even with a small sample ya gotta love his 91% FT shooting."
  7. I saw Lisch play in High School on Charter's cable channel 3 a couple of times. He was throwing 75' outlet bounce passes on rebounds and knocking down shots. He looked like a good D-I prospect. He did tear his meniscus as a senior, an injury that normally heals without surgery so I do not know if he has lost any speed or is still attempting to recover some of his speed. The biggest concern I have about him is that he is not outstandingly quick. Meaning that he has difficulty creating his own shot. The white freshman point guard from UNC put a defensive clinic on Lisch in the second half of that game. Lisch seems like an accurate set shooter but the biggest thing for him offensively is does he have enough speed to create his own shot in college basketball and has he developed a pull up jump shot that he is comfortable with? I have not seen a pull up jumper from him off the dribble this year. Remember the biggest difference between every level of sports is the speed of the athletes. Personally, a lot of the reason we have not seen what Liddell and Lisch can do is because Brad’s offense schemes seem mundane and simple-there is not a lot of cutting, screening, moving, etc (apologists would say this is because they want to run everything through IV). Watch Illinois play (they do have a lot to work with, but SIUC uses the same system) and see the number of easy baskets they get. I do think Brad is a hell of a coach, his defensive schemes are impressive, I have never seen his teams quit (even after crushing losses the last few years) and he gets a lot out of the talent he does/doesn’t have.
  8. Justin Johnson: .356 FG% for the season: 1-6 against UNC, 1-6 against Ole Miss, 4-11 against Gonzaga, and 2-6 against Iowa. He has shot FTs well this year. If he can eventually hit the 15' jump shot consistently, SLU will be alot better off.
  9. Luke isn't getting big time minutes or minutes at all because he is slow. His feet are slow and he can't create his own shot and even against Gonzaga where he got up a few shots they were really ugly because he has to rush to get off his shot. Defensively, see the 'slow feet', we play help defense with a collapse into the interior to help out. Luke Meyer can't rotate out fast enough to the perimeter to contest a perimeter shot. As for Justin Johnson he can't knock down a 15 footer from the high post consistently, if he could this team would be alot better and might win some games against 'better' opponents.
  10. If the bills are going to play four guards who are no taller than 6'-4'' then they are going to have to play help defense and commit to it- they are going to have to drop down in the paint and support the interior against bigger post guys (Sensley for UH?). By playing this support/Help shell, the perimeter is going to be open for 3's. The idea is that the 4 guards are quick enough to rotate from help defense in the interior to the perimeter. Unfortunately Hawaii was able to knock down their shots and rotate the ball and take advantage of 4-Guard lineup; 11-22 3ps. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
  11. Michigan State struggled against Hawaii too, (a lot to do with dehydration) so all is not lost. I think the real litmus test for this team will be the SIUC/MilwaukeeWisc games. How they handle those two games will tell everyone alot more about where this team is for the rest of the season.
  12. Just wondering if anyone knows what type of offense SLU is running this year, have they changed the system they are going to use?-Is it a Flex, Motion, etc? Also it says he's opened up the offense in the Post article but it doesn't give any clue to what he is really doing to open it up. Larry Brown in Detroit, NY made there be 3 passes before the offense was initiated, is it something like that he has eliminated? or is it more of a transition/outlet philosophy that has changed? Thanx
