A10 WBB Tournament Megathread
slufanskip replied to BrettJollyComedyHour's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
What a start for the women. 21-6 after the 1st qtr. There is literally not a comfortable moment with the ball for a Billiken opponent. They don’t shoot well but they get after you every second. 100% buy in. Julia Martinez is so fun to watch. If I were going to a brawl, I’m not sure there’s another Bill man or woman I’d rather have on my side. She’ll just find a way. Brooke is intimidating inside and can score a bit. Payton Kennedy has really come on lately. She can shoot it and really score. Kennedy Calhoun makes the whole thing go especially on defense. She’s just gets up in you and causes havoc -

OT: St. Louis City SC Reveals Jersey

Wow. So you’re saying the MLS is not the best league in the world and the USMNT still isn’t best either. Thanks for sharing -
Yuri was getting a taste of what GJim feels like getting held off the ball all game long. The freedom of movement idea especially off the ball doesn’t seem to apply to GJim or Yuri

The odd thing about the percentage and amount of 3’s the hit was I thought we played our best D in a while last night. At the beginning of the game it was same old, same old. Get beat off the dribble, kick, hit a 3. However, we really shored that up ( in a large part to playing Yuri and LH Jr together). We kept them out of the lane and made them rely on contested 3’s. They made them, they made some deep ones, contested ones, and some that looked like a wtf,,, shot. It happens. Despite that we won. Player of the match was easily GJim. It even appeared that the level of energy and intensity he played with in getting to the rim all night carried over his to his quickness on D.

But it actually wasn’t equal footing for all teams. Not every team was hit the same, but I think you already know this.

Agreed

Common sense prevails every now and then.

And this would come as a surprise to you?

Why respond. Just let them talk to themselves. It’s probably normal to them -
Collins Sets Two A10 Career Records in Same Game

The board has become close to unreadable. Mostly due to the lack of basketball IQ from so many posters. -
Makes perfect sense to me. I’ve been packing my own ice cubes in my suitcase for years. I put the ice cubes in a zip lock bag, take along an ice cube tray. When you get to your destination just put the melted ice back in the ice cube tray and re freeze. Of course you could just take a bottle of water, but I have found that melted ice cubes re freezes better than just your standard bottled water

Figured this was the best place to post this from Seth Davis's article at the athletic. Still probably not a better passer than H though Playmakers 1. Yuri Collins, 6-0 senior guard, Saint Louis. Collins’ numbers are so astounding they seem made up. He leads the country at 10.6 assists per game (2.4 ahead of his nearest competitor) and assist rate (51.5), and he’s sixth nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.21). During a November win over Tennessee State, he had 20 assists and one turnover. 2. Tyler Kolek, 6-3 junior guard, Marquette. The second-year transfer from George Mason is second in the country in assists (8.2 per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (3.44), and he’s seventh in assist rate (38.3 percent). 3. Dajuan Harris, 6-1 junior guard, Kansas. Harris has been struggling with his shot of late, but he’s fifth in the country in assists (6.5) and 10th in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.07). 4. Jalen Pickett, 6-4 super senior guard, Penn State. The second-year transfer from Siena has been one of the country’s most improved players. He’s averaging 6.9 assists to just 2.2 turnovers, and he’s leading the Nittany Lions in scoring at 17.3 points per game. 5. AJ Hoggard, 6-3 junior guard, Michigan State. Hoggard has been a do-everything guard for the Spartans. He’s fourth in the country in assist rate (39.1) and 14th in assists (5.9) while averaging 12.4 points per game.

I met Terrence a couple of times. Watched a HS all star game with him. He was a super nice guy. RIP Thick’s.

Are you talking for the WC? Sites have already been selected

I’m with you on Perkins and I’d like to see Hughes get 7-8 minutes a game at pg and if a game is out of reach or easily under control maybe more. I believe there are a lot of factors in our losses. Ford assembled what has turned out to be a team that was overly reliant on 3 pt shooting and not enough inside presence. Okoro has shot poorly as has Jim compared to what they have done in the past Yuri’s shooting percentages are also bad. He should have developed a better 3 point shot by now. We keep hearing it’s better but the results don’t show it. Besides Fred none of our guard/wings that have gotten the most minutes can keep their man in front of them. We’ve been bad defensively. If you continually let guards/wings get in the lane, you’re constantly helping which then leaves you susceptible to the 3, which we have been all year. That’s fine, but then you had better shoot the ball well and we haven’t many times. In fact we’ve shot poorly in every loss.

You really have issues. I never blamed the fall of the season on Jimerson, but I did say his shooting played a huge part. However, despite clear facts, you still make excuses for him and put the blame on Ford. He didn’t have a bad game or 2. Can you count? You do realize Jimerson isn’t from Belleville right?
-
I want to apologize to Gibson. Despite the way any even remotely sane basketball fan might think. I now realize that you shooting 5 of 22 from 2 for 23 % and 11 of 46 from 3 for 24% in the Billiken’s 6 losses this year was not even a tiny bit responsible for any of the losses. Get real. Gibson Jimerson shot terribly during the losses. His play DID have a huge effect on each loss. If you just take the 4 games most of us see as the worst losses (Iona, Boise, SIUE, and UMass) he was even worse. 24% from 2 and 20% from 3. In those 4 losses he jacked up 31 3’s and made just 6.

Apparently you’ve read me saying there are things Ford should be held accountable but also these 2 players have performed below expectations to me saying Ford is absolved of any blame and the entire poor results lie on the shoulders of Jimerson and Okoro. That’s not what I said, nor is it what I meant. This crap happens all the time on this board. Someone could say it’s raining outside and someone else would contradict them by claiming that that they’re wrong no annual rainfall records have been broken. Simply answer this question. Have Gibson Jimerson and Frances Okoro performed up to your expectations this year? That’s it. That was my entire post. I even said there are things Ford should be held accountable for. I didn’t say anyone else was or wasn’t accountable.

You certainly read what you wanted to hear. I simply pointed out that their are other factors than just the coach that has cost us games. At no point did I solely blame those 2 for our under performance. I just pointed out the fact that neither of the 2 have performed to the levels that were expected coming into the season. However, I understand that saying there are any reasons beyond Ford bein a crappy coach triggers some. I chose Jimerson and Okoro as they were both expected to be major components of our team this year. Are you saying you expected Jimerson to shoot 36% from 3?
