Yeah but those were Rick’s boys. This team couldn’t carry their jocks. Great Expectations once again flushed down the toilet. The portal will be interesting to watch. Also the coaching Merry Go Round. I expect Rhodes will get a few P5 looks.

I was at a sports bar in South FL as my wife were going to Cards Spring Training Games. People in the bar started watching me going nuts and started rooting for SLU with me.

There are many, many posters on this board that are advocating for Ford to go that I would not label as a "Troll."  I respect their opinions, but simply disagree.  Having a different opinion than me or others does not, remotely, make a person a troll.  A troll is someone who incessantly posts about a position using non stop superlative verbage and, in doing so, annoys the CR*P out of everyone on the board and makes it difficult to read.

I enjoy debating with those who are here as devout Billiken fans, but have a differing opinion on a topic than I do.  That's part of what makes this board interesting.  I cannot stand someone who shows up out of the blue and spends their first 262 posts repeating the same garbage over and over again.  We know your opinion on this.  Let it go.

Like your points and posts as well as Ace! Here's where I come down on Travis Ford. First of all, I didn't like the hire in the first place. Why? I thought May settled for someone who while he did get his OSU team in the Tourney he only won 1 NCAA Tourney with tons of talent. Yes, OSU is a Power 5 school so expectations should be higher. He comes to SLU and I don't recall what his initial contract was both length and $'s. The $'s are still somewhat speculation as SLU being a private school does not make public what he's paid...speculation is in the $2.4M a year level...making Ford the highest paid HC in the A-10. IMHIO someone making that kind of salary should have made more than 1 NCAA Tourney. Let's not forget that team had to win 4 games in a row to get there. Then they were summarily beaten by Va Tech in the first round. Covid years were a big 0 for all NCAA teams. So let's get to the 2022-23 year and SLU was picked by Many pre-season predictors to be Top 25 and certain NCAA team. Now some of those same prediction folks have Ford on the hot seat because SLU is no where near where they thought SLU should be with a veteran team. Sure as an Alum and someone when we liver in St. Louis spent many years as a season ticket holder I would love to see SLU win the A-10 Tourney and get into the NCAA Tourney. With Ford's track record I don't see it happening.I know some on here thank he deserves another year if he does not win and AD May has stated that publicly. That's great...he hired him so if what I think could happen...they both should be on the hot seat if SLU isn't dancing on Sunday! Chaifetz IMO is a super nice facility and if fans continue to be disappointed then there will be people who quit coming to the games. Hoops are SLU's only real revenue sport. Someone has to take responsibility!!!

please provide the links to posts where a mbm here at billikens.com said ford is a wonderful HC.   i dont remember anyone saying that recently.   i recall people saying more or less the time isnt right yet but no one ready to proclaim ford is the COY.

Roy...It would take me days to send you all the lover affair post on this website, but your welcome to go back and search for them. Trust me it won't take very long. You just went into a history book on the Illini. I earlier provided one of Gonzaga which I happen to believe is a MUCH better history as Gonzaga is in a league that is NOT Power 5 but in Mark Few they have  HC who I believe has a better than 50-50 chance of being in the HOF by the time his HC career is over. I see all the time the outstanding talent Ford supposedly recruits well if it is he sure as hell does not know how to coach it. Few on the other hand has built the Zags to a place where he not only gets looks from 5 Star players but actually gets them to friggin Spokane, WA. Heck just last year the 7 footer on their roster was rated the No. 1 recruit. Gonzaga one would hope with the super nice Chaifetz should be an example for the SLU hierarchy to want to attain. Won't happen with Travis Ford!!!

are we talking about your mistaken facts on gonazga history or your dislike of ford? root for whoever you want, your stomach ulcer may get some rest if you quit spewing your hatred of ford

I know the history of Gonzaga very well...I lived it. You and all the Travis Ford lovers can continue to stay in you Fantasy Land that he is a wonderful HC. The Zags in Mark Few have a great HC. Hope they have a nice run in them again this year!!!

did you look how look it took with fitzgerald so that there could be a monson? monson didnt start with nothing, he built on the prior coach of 15 years

Whatever...keep dreaming with Ford...it's never going to happen. Mark Few a couple years ago got a helluva transfer guard from Florida of all place. Florida a SEC school who had won a couple NCAA Championships in the past. That player thought he had a better chance winning a NCAA Championship with little ole Gonzaga than he did with Florida and by the way he started at Florida too. Do you honestly think Travis Ford could pull that off? I'll answer it for you...no friggin way. Unfortunately, I'm sure I'll have to root for the Zags in the NCAA Tourney and root for them to have a run again. Pretty sure before this weekend is over Ford will be 1 for 7 in NCAA Tourney appearances. What a WASTE!!!

no one said it couldnt be done, but those teams you mentioned took awhile to do so and two of the teams are not in the valley anymore, gonzaga took many years to become what they are today, obviously complainging argueing is what you like to do

Not as long as you think...we lived in Seattle the last 4 years of the 90's. I watched Gonzaga start their NCAA run under Monson and went to their firstt NCAA run where they beat No. 2 Stanford in the 1st round. Then Monson left and their Asst Coach Mark Few continued their run and actually has been the favorite a few times at a Jesuit U school in of all places friggin Spokane, WA. It can be done with a solid HC and motivation of the Administration. Travis Ford is not the HC to get us anywhere near the path Gonzaga has been. For many years I've found myself rooting for that Jesuit school during NCAA Tourney time because my alma mater cannot even get in the darn Tourney. Maybe someone might say they have not won the NCAA Championship yet. True but we watched them lose a vey competitive Final Game one year on a cruise ship to one of the blue bloods NC with the people on the ship rooting for the Zags. It can be done even at a Jesuit U with the proper leadership. Not with the current HC at SLU, but I'll keep the dream alive probably until I die!

7 years and no top 50 teams at a school who says their goal is to be a top 50 program. That's really my only issue. If the goal has changed, then tell us.

But man I just have a feeling about Brooklyn. Mason just has never impressed me and I think we finally break through against VCU.

Sure hope that you aren't putting money on that.

It’s Mason and Oduro. Mason on a roll… 7 straight. Momentum. Calling Franco and Jake time to rise.

Hate to say it slu72 but I'll be surprised if SLU pulls this off on a neutral court. They are on a roll playing with a purpose while the Bills??? I like their HC a lot better than Ford. IMHO Kim English is an up and comer!!!

There are certain "goals" or " levels" to judge a season off of.  Winning 20 games without a Tourney is a tick and I mean a tick better than just winning 15 games and being .500.  The only difference is we get to justify more so overpaying a coach by a ton.  For us fans, you cant really tell the different between 20 wins and 15.  But fine, this is enjoyable to you, I cant knock you on what you like, for me, that's not good enough, and frankly not really that close either.

I do understand older fans who are skeptical because of the history.  But what I don't understand is the settle for average given the resources we have. Its very puzzling, and quite frustrating.

Agree winning 20 games when you play in a league that isn't Power 5 is not a reason to have a parade and once we lose in this year's A-10 Tourney Ford (the highest paid HC in the A-10) will be 1 for 7 in making the NCAA. With a pearl like Chaifetz fans should expect much more than that from their HC who is the highest paid in his conference. Not too many conferences allow their head basketball that much leeway!

Next year should be make or break for Ford. There's a lot to complain about, some things to like, but Ford acts like he can't play certain guys who can play. We're never going to have a great big unless we develop one from within. Lassina Traore was raw, but no doubt he's better than Jake F this year. He averaged 13 and 10 on a decent Long Beach team. All we remember is that he got yelled at for dancing. Is Cisse destined to transfer? Is Zhang destined to transfer in a year because he gets no run because we play a transfer from Arkansas St. 30 mpg so Ford can win 16 instead of 14 games?

Larry Hughes Jr. at the very least gave us a different look this year and showed he could be a disruptive force on defense. Why not play Yuri 30mpg and tell him to turn up the defense? Why not develop LHG? Likewise, why bury Parker game after game? There were 10 games he played less than 10 minutes. Like it or not, Sincere is probably your leading scorer next year. Give him confidence and reps.

We may stumble into another Javon Bess but the quality of our transfers (I'm not counting JUCO transfers) has been pretty uneven over the last 10-15 years (Pickett, Forrester, D Jones, Rashad Williams, Okoro, Linssen, Tay Weaver, Dion Wiley). The strategy needs to be both/and, but we can't let guys who can clearly be part of winning teams (Traore, D Jacobs) just transfer because Ford buries them.

Can he build a core to replace the French/Goodwin core of tough, winning players who play a style? We lost the toughness and just replaced it with shooting and fast break offense that was up and down.

Like your post and agree with many of your points. Besides Traore we also lost the other smaller athlete (sorry can't remember his name) too. He would also have contributed this year too. Ford has been awful in teaching the super athletic players how to play college hoops. It's one thing to recruit potential gems but an entirely different thing to coach them up. That is a Huge failure in Ford as a HC.

I fear that the fringe supporters of SLU hoops won't wait after this year's disappointment. They will not spend their money on SLU hoops. That is on the AD May if he does decide to keep Ford. Lesser crowds at Chaifetz next year is lost revenue for SLU and again that's on AD May if he does stay with Ford.

I forgot about Greg Marshall....I wonder if he's learned his lesson on player treatment. That dude wins.

Interesting that you mentioned Greg Marshall as his name was brought up as a possible HC at Western Kentucky along with Travis Ford. Wouldn't that fry some of the folks on here who have a deep love affair with Ford...we don't have to fire him...he dumps SLU!

Ford would say that they are not playing for themselves or at least that is what he kept telling us after losses on the post game shows. WTF is right

Travis Ford is the problem, and if he is allowed to come back for one more season after not coaching a team that the preseason prognosticators said was a lock to be Dancing then the powers to be are giving the people who do support the Bills next year a middle finger. By people who support SLU I'm specifically talking about those that purchase season tickets. They're the ones who lay their hard earned money for Tix and other items at Chaifetz like concessions. They deserve much better than Travis Ford as HC!
