moytoy12
Saw this on the A-10 board. "Xavier turned down Rivals.com's Mid-Major Player of the Week Award this week intended for point guard Drew Lavender, saying the term "mid-major" was a black eye for its program." http://collegebasketball.rivals.com/...asp?CID=759725
Gus Chiggins
Good for Xavier, and good for the A-10!

kwyjibo
This is the first year that the A-10 has been considered "mid-major" by any major media source. Frankly, the term has always been synonymous with sloppy and lazy writing/editing. This year Rivals and ESPN seem to try to reduce the sloppiness a bit by defining the A-10 as a "mid-major" but the laziness still permeates the word (if you want to use the term to mean all teams in non-BCS conferences would not the term "non-BCS" be more accurate?). Yes I can answer my own question--it has to do with money and wringing a few extra bits of forced emotion out of the March payday. Anyway, good for Xavier. moytoy12
Screw ESPN. At the half of the Temple-Duke game and they are discussing the A-10 (which is good), but they are stating "mid-major this" and "mid-major that" when discussing Dayton, Broberts, Rhode Island and Jimmy Baron.
