  1. From The Athletic:

Nesbitt's HS coach: "He's not super concerned with the hometown angle. ... They've done a 'pretty good job' of recruiting the program. Jordan's been to some games there, and they've been building a relationship. But as far as (SLU) being a favorite, I wouldn't say that."

    Not exactly encouraging.

  2. If you don't like the new home unis with black included in the billikens lettering then you have a big ol dump in your pants.

remember when we only had blue and white?

the next big idea needs to be bringing back the Larry Legend unis and re-make the schedule poster from that year.

The new guard transfers addressed our greatest area of concern and probable weakness.  Now I see the greatest weekness as the depth at our wing position.  Bess very solid, especially with his improved range last season. With his work ethic (maybe the greatest strength of this team), he will probably improve his accuracy and may take another step further out. But who comes in for Bess?  Welmer if healthy is probably too slow to cover the aposing wing.  You could play the 2 transfers + Goodwun, but only for a short while.  Or one of the freshmen.  An injury to Bess would almost certainly mean one of the freshman would get a lot of minutes.  It is wonderful to see the greatest team weakness/question is not with a starting position!

What defines a "wing" in your opinion? Because this team is ultra flexible in terms of virtually every position, and they can run athlete after athlete out on that court and they would all jive in a reasonable manner. There is no set formula or "wing" requirement. This team's greatest strength is that it has a massive amount of players who can match up at multiple positions. They can go big. They can go small. They can go rough. They can go lean & mean.

The A-10 won't have an answer.

We don't need, nor do you actually want, 13 players eligible to play next year. None of the freshmen coming in next season are likely redshirts so one way to keep the grumbling about playing time a bit lower would be to have a transfer that has to sit. I'd take Mark Smith in a heartbeat.

Add in Austin as a true PG back-up that won't expect an enormous amount of minutes behind Goodwin and you've got a good class.

Need to know more about Whelmer's injury but even if you think its 60-70% that he plays again you probably keep him in the mix. Worst case is we only have 11 eligible players and best case is you've got that outside shooter we need desperately.

I would argue Pearson is a prime RS candidate - because where does he automatically slot in the rotation? Let him get acclimated to the speed/athleticism of college ball, let Bess graduate. JJ will produce. Welmer might be able to dribble once or twice. Santos/Gordon/French/Foreman will lock up most of the minutes on the bigs. Bess isn't coming off the court except in limited circumstances; same with Goodwin.

  5. The band is the only consistent presence we have had over the past decade. If you are complaining about the band, then you are probably one of the ******-tards sitting down in the student section.

    GET THE FRAT/SORORITIES INVOLVED!

i'm sorry, but when I was a student, the kids who headed up the blue crew were the rejects on campus. Nobody liked them, but they felt important because they had pizza before a game and wore a viking hat. Get the rowdy gentleman and ladies involved!

  6. My predictions rest on the first two games.. We play two good teams, home and away...If we can come out and handle these two "good" teams and win the games we are supposed to win, I like our chances.. We are going to beat WU...That is our hype game and getting Wash early in the season will help..but we have to win the tough games against less formidable opponents

  7. Thanks for the link HTB; thanks for the input STL.

Given the list on the HTB link (4 Big Ten schools, one Big Twelve and ... who's that outlier .... why, it's US!!) it would appear, on the surface, this kid is well worth it.

Unfortunately 05, I CAN'T see the kids play. On the flip side, I could have dropped $40 to $100 to see the farce that was Carmelo and LeBron at Morgan State Tuesday but opted not to.

05's comments are about as useful as a poopy flavored lollipop

  8. randy my read on the article was that it was allowed because the $$$$ from stallings didnt go directly and specifically to paying for the trip but rather a savings to the athletic budget which then allowed the trip to be financed with athletic dept funds.

i sure didnt get the read that stallings was denied refusing his pay.

Agree. But from the interview w/ RickMa it made him sound like he just paid for it..which per the article:

Teams can take overseas trips every four years and raise money through fundraisers, games or donors. They cannot be paid for directly by a coach.

I'm sure it happened like you said

  9. Someone smarter than me .....

Please explain how a coach, any coach, makes the statement "(I) paid for more of the Canada trip than (school) did." That would seem to be some sort of a violation of some kind, given today's Ohio State/Miami of Florida world for NCAA athletics. I recall maybe Spoon saying he couldn't buy kids ice cream. Anyone?

It is not the first time coaches have done this, but in the most recent example of this, the article states coaches can't do it..

  10. It was the 4th game in five days. The team had dead legs. I wouldn't read too much into the loss. I wouldn't expect any better tonight. 5th game in 6 days and they will be down 3 players.

    UCONN 2011 post season...?

I don't but the tired excuse. They play this many games all the time in AAU and such.. Practice 2 times a day.. they are in shape..(not midseason shape, but still..)

I have not talked to anyone who was there, but I would bet they just came out flat, not realizing the level of talent they were facing based of their previous games. Mix that with the fact that Carleton was on fire from behind the arc, and the game was over before halftime (remember last season when we walked into Dayton and did work)

  11. I come on here after going to the Cards game, slamming Bud Heavies, and find out the following three things:

-KM got hurt in an exhibition game that SLU was getting smoked in.

-HTB does their best to give us info as close to real time that most of us truly appreciate.

-Pretty sure that Randy is a douchetwat. Had a feeling before, but after reading this thread, I am pretty sure of it now. Don't want to hear any excuses from him about holding HTB accountable or any other BS. In my mind, total douchetwat. I feel that Randy should appreciate me being frank with him.

called a douchetwat by a kid named "jbizzle"... keep up the good work pal. i really appreciate your insight. It is always spot on. you should try and turn it into a profession.

  12. Kwamain Mitchell Injured vs. Carleton

    Per SLU Media Relations:

OTTAWA, Ontario – Saint Louis junior guard Kwamain Mitchell was injured in the Billikens’ exhibition game at Carleton University Friday. For precautionary measures, Mitchell was transported to a local hospital for further observation.

Mitchell was along the sideline when he fell backward into metal bleachers with 3:13 remaining in the contest. At that point, the game was called with Carleton leading 80-56.

The injury does not appear to be serious, but additional observation is necessary. Further updates will be released as soon as they become available.

    Kwamain will be fine.

  13. this was my favorite thread from game last night:

    SLUBillikens.com:

Lately, I understand Ottawa and Carleton have been near the top of the league standings. Everyone says Carleton is the best in the CIS. We play them tomorrow and Saturday.

    Comment From HeardThisBlog

I believe Carleton is the team that is supposed the "Duke" of Canada.
