  1. 100% in the same boat. There are two things that have me feeling great about it now: 1) We have not been linked to any other coaches (except Frank begging for Ahearn). It seems like May and Dr. C know we have our guy in the bag. You have to think we’d at least hear of some secondary interest if it wasn’t locked down. We have seen Louisville connected with other coaches the second Schertz turned them down. 2) It was reported by multiple sources that Louisville would've had to pay us a buyout to sign Schertz. I’m not a lawyer, but how would they have to pay us a buyout if we didn’t have something signed and sealed, just waiting to be delivered? I think it’s entirely possible he has signed some sort of pre-contract, where the buyout is paid to ISU and the contract with us goes into effect the second ISU is eliminated from the NIT. Pre-contracts are extremely common in European Soccer, not sure how it would work here, but it seems like we have something more binding and enforceable than just a regular MoU.
  2. A lot of celebration will be necessary. And repeat with each transfer that comes with.
  3. Gtfo, he’s not staying at ISU. If it wasn’t a lock he’s coming here, he’d have for sure gone to Louisville. Over 20+ years of fandom, I’ve come to expect that what can go wrong with SLU hoops will go wrong, and even I think it’s a done deal.
  4. If you’d have told me when he was hired that Travis Ford would coach at SLU for eight seasons and NEVER beat a ranked team, I’d have assumed we got relegated to D2. Wonder if any other A10 programs went winless against ranked opponents in that time frame.
  5. Brings this gem to mind hahaha
  6. Best high school recruit in Canada, or everywhere? His offer list according to 247 is definitely pretty impressive. Surprised his rankings aren’t higher, although I know those can be a crapshoot for international guys.
  7. I know you’re an Android guy, but still… copy image URL> other media> insert image from URL
  8. If Schertz moves on after one year, it was a great year for SLU basketball. (FWIW I don’t think he leaves after one year) Anyway, I doubt Utah St. regrets hiring Sprinkle because he left after one year. They were decimated after Odom left, and he got them to R32 year one. I see your point, and there’s some validity to it, but you hire the best coach for your program NOW, imo. You can’t worry about three years from now, especially in the era of college free agency for all.
  9. Plus has there been any example of a coach taking his ENTIRE starting lineup to his next job? I could see him bringing 2, maybe 3 starters. I’d be (pleasantly) shocked if he brings 5+ guys. So the “this is our team, root for them” logic doesn’t really work for me. Or at least doesn’t outweigh the benefits of getting Schertz announced officially, start recruiting, etc.
  10. Against for me. ISU fans were really relishing our brief panic over Schertz, until they realized we’d get a way bigger buyout than they will. And there are still some that won’t accept that this MOA means he will be our coach next year. Get it done. Get Schertz announced and working the transfer portal.
  11. From the article linked: “Indiana State coach Josh Schertz is no longer an option, sources said, and has been linked to the Saint Louis opening.”
  12. Disagree. we should be done choosing coaches based on who we think stays the longest. If Schertz comes with his guys, we are A10 favorites next season. Make a tournament, and if Schertz jumps we are a much more attractive landing spot for someone like Mack/whoever the next big MM coach is next season.
  13. Louisville board speculating some big behind the scenes boosters want Richard Pitino. Let’s hope they’re right.
  14. Do you not watch football because the forward pass used to be illegal? Every team is cheating!
  15. I’m still holding out hope for Schertz, he did just call Louisville fans out for death threats against May a couple days ago, did he not?
  16. McCollum isn’t the worst option, but he doesn’t get us dancing year 1 like Schertz would. I’m greedy, I need march to be relevant again.
  17. May planned this all along to recoup the Ford buyout
  18. Well I wrote the post before I saw the 3.5mil vs the $2 mil. Obviously Louisville is the more prestigious job. My point was, if the salary is around the same, there’s an argument for picking SLU.
  19. Pressure would be on from the start at Louisville… is he confident that bringing a couple of his guys from ISU, and adding a few in the portal, would get him to the dance year one? If not, pressure starts building. At SLU, bringing a few of his players, keeping a few of the current roster, and adding a couple from the portal could have him contending in the A10 immediately. And as long as there’s obvious improvement, no fan or booster pressure. So he needs to ask himself, if they’re each paying me $2mil, which job would I rather take next? If he fails at Louisville, he’s back at MVC level or worse in 3-4 years. If he succeeds at SLU, he moves on to a bigger program that isn’t currently the laughing stock of P5 programs. Obviously the potential at Louisville is greater because of conference, history, etc, but so is the pressure. For the same money, I’d go to SLU, win a few conference titles, and see what kind of offers come in the future. Hopefully he’s still committed to us and not even seriously considering it. But damn, do I want ISU to lose so we know one way or another.
  20. Stu putting out the plan B article seems so stupid. You’d think May would tell him to put a damn sock in it if Schertz is all but official. It seems like our local media is genuinely trying to sabotage this program.
  21. Just what I read on Twitter, but apparently McCollum asked for some reasonable upgrades to facilities/budget type stuff, and was told no, so he told them he wasn’t joining a program that wasn’t committed to winning.
