  1. I know what you're saying, but you conviently left out the other half of the story. I'm just saying that any attempt to downplay a nice win against a quality opponent will be rejected in dikembe mutombo fashion. I wag my finger at you. Later in the season, we won at Charlotte, at Xavier at took GW into OT on their home court. Whey you saw what SIU did the rest of the season. It makes our win even more impressive. Northern Iowa won at LSU early last season. LSU was struggling a little at the time, but they weren't in march when they went to the Final Four. I don't think northern Iowa fans cared one bit when they played LSU or what the state of their program at the time. what they know is that they beat lsu on the road. We weren't a very good team when we played SIU either. In fact, rarely are we a good team in November and early december. That's been a big problem with us. How frustrating has it been to lose home games like Tn. Martin at home in November, then beat No. 2 Louisville ane win in Cincinnati in February in '03. The difference in that SIU game was Ian. If we play them at home in February, Ian is still 6'10" 270 and a beast around the basket. IN the game before SIU played us, Tatum scored 37 points. and after our game, the Salukis won their next 12 or 13 games, only losing at Northern Iowa in overtime. I expect to beat SIU at home every time we play them whether they are at the top of their game or struggling. Just like, they expect to win every game with us in carbondale. It doesn't always work out that way, but the home team has won most of the games. As I said before, you play the games when they are scheduled. Unless injuries are a big issue, if a team whips us, I'll just say we got our butts kicked pretty good, instead of some namby-pamby reasons. bad boyz for life
  2. about last year's SIU game Since when are we in the business of making excuses for the other team when we beat them. If many of you recall, the billikens had just spent five days in hawaii and played only one game before we played the Salukis. Out jet lag was just as bad and we weren't the same team either. Kevin was not a starter and tommie played only 19 minutes and wasn't a factor at all in the game. Nobody was weeping tears for SLU when the Salukis hammered the bills by 26 points in c-dale the previous year. you play the game when you play the game. We were a ton better in february than we were in november. some of you act like this was the first time slu has ever beaten Southern Illinois in basketball and last year's 14-point win was somewhat of a fluke. go back and check the records and know your history. Over the past 15 years or so, SLU and SIU have pretty much played each other even. Hell, one year we beat a loaded SIU team in grawer's last year with a 5-23 team. It's been a great rivaly over the years and I'm glad to see it continued. We beat them and they beat us. That trend will probably continue if the teams continue to play each other. bad boyz for life
  3. we have some possibilities on the team other than kevin, but they still come with question marks. danny should be our next best shooter, but he's been so darn inconsistent. i think brad needs to do a better job with him. When danny is going well, he can really stroke it. when he slips up, he seems to disappear into brad's dog house for several games. hopefully, with two years of experience and maturity, we will see a more consistent danny because he can be an explosive scorer. brad just has to relax a little more with him and make him more confident and comfortable. in my book, danny should be double-figures scorer on most nights. He can also score on the break, on pull-ups and get to the free throw line as well. dustin is obviously a shooter, but will he be ready to be thrown into the fire of high-level D-1 hoops, especially the non-conference schedule that we're playing. Luke: I'm not looking for him to become a prolific 3-point shooter. He has to knock down those mid-range jumpers that are available to him when his man leaves to double-team Ian. He does a lot of intangible things to help the team win, but he will cancel those intangibles out if he cannot knock down open jumpers. by the way, i don't know if anybody has seen luke lately. he's about 220 pounds. believe it or not, Obi is one of the best shooters on the team. he is really comfortable on the perimeter, knocking down long jumpers. the obvious question is whether he is ready to put those skills to use as a redshirt freshman after not playing for two years. dwayne doesn't have to be a lights out shooter. he just needs to hit a few to keep everyone honest. I'd like to seen Ian step out and shoot a few more 15 footers. he's tough in the paint, but he is a euro after all. that jumper is in his arsenal. remember that shot he hit at xavier from the corner. that's not an abberation. bad boyz for life
  4. word on the street is that brandenburg will be on campus for an unofficial this weekend. the entire suggs family was on campus last week and jake kelly was in for a day (on an unofficial). I'm not terribly optimistic about that one. the word is also that several more visits have been set up this fall, including Leon Powell in a couple of weeks and I saw the earlier report by a poster about the kid from georgia coming in late september. where this will all lead to, it's anybody guess. hopefully, we can get some positive results. bad boyz for life
  5. don't forget the mid to late round picks in the draft like boris diaw, david west, leandro barbosa and josh howard. bad boyz for life
  6. Morris Peterson started on both of Michigan State's Final Four teams, including the 2000 National Championship team. I got a cousin that lives in the Detroit area and I saw a few Michigan state games in person. Mo Pete was starting before his senior year. I think the Michigan STate kid you are referring to is Zach Randolph. He wasn't a starter on the 2001 Final Four team. bad boyz for life

  8. yes, this is a wild bunch compared to the last group. Not sure who my favorite is, but i'm kinda feeling deelishiz a little bit. She's high major in the body department. bootz is cute and krazy is a looker as well. billiken law. you're our resident marquette expert. any truth to the internet rumor of former flavor flav girlfriend Hoopz hooking up with D. Wade and getting pregnant. I thought he was a family man. bad boyz for life

  10. If you are Ms. Basketball in the state of Illinois, which is loaded with top talent, and take a Class A school to the Class AA state finals against all of the big-time schools, that's a mouthful. Word on the street was that lisch also put 34 points on the thompson girl from whitney young (who is going to oklahoma) in an aau spring game that was a big deal in chicago, especially since a girl downstate got the Ms. Basketball nod over a McDonald's All-American. those are some pretty strong credentials. If the Jones girl is better than that. Wow!! It's good to see Shimmy in so deep with these caliber of players from the area. bad boyz for life
  11. fletcher would be the guy for me. He reminds me more of guys like pooh day and dwayne when they were in high school. plus it makes more sense with jamal on the staff, you have somebody who somewhat knows him and his coaches. bad boyz for life
  12. He's a 6'4" point guard. (maybe bigger). you're close. he plays for Affton. I've already seen powell and harrelson. they definitely get the stamp of approval. kids like griffin and ford are ones that could turn out to be potentially great stories about five or six years from now if they continue to develop and wind up at the right school where they can blossom. that still happens, even in this day of hyperactive recruiting sites and an endless amount of "talent" evaluators. bad boyz for life bad boyz for life
  13. He's very good, but there's another sleeper guard in the '07 class who is even better. Let's see if you're on your game and you can guess who he is. bad boyz for life
  14. I wouldn't mind seeing the harrellson kid from st. charles next year to go along with obi, AK and HD. I suspect the staff is recruiting a juco big for '07. bad boyz for life
  15. I agree that brad has to get something done this year. He still has a lot to prove, especially with an experienced team in '07 coming up. However, as for quality wins, I count a few more than two: Louisville '03 (#2 in the country)NCAA team at Cincinnati '03 (the only SLU team ever to win at the Shoe) NCAA team at depaul (Marque once again in the last second against a postseason team.) Iowa ('04)in the NIT Charlotte ('04) win over an NCAA team Memphis (CUSA Tourney) win over a NCAA team at DePaul ('04) road win over NCAA team at Dayton ('04) road win over NCAA team at Charlotte ('06) Southern Illinois ('06) beat NCAA team at Xavier ('06) road win over NCAA team Xavier ('06) get season sweep over NCAA team *that's about a dozen quality wins, but who's counting. bad boyz for life
  16. I think someone just mentioned that shimmy just got the 6'1" woods girl from belleville east. plus, getting kevin's sister was a HUGE get. She was Ms. Basketball in the state of Illinois in 2006 and she got it done against the best talent in the state. I'm not as familiar on the girls side, but getting lisch was big. I did read that they got a girl from chicago in the '07 class who is also ranked in the top 10 players in the state of illinois. If they can get the jones girl from howell central, that would be great, but Tennessee appears to be in the hunt. If pat summitt wants her, then the show's over. shimmy seems to be moving in the right direction. that new building should really help her. from watching a few girls games last year, they look like they need some size. shimmy seems to be doing a good job getting talented guards and wing players. she needs a few post players who can play. bad boyz for life
  17. answering an early question to why is the offer on the DL. word on the street is that floyd is upset with slu ever since dwayne lost his starting position during the 2006 season. he hasn't hidden his displeasure, because DJ would be on his show complaining about DP not starting. there was even speculation of DP leaving (perhaps for Mizzou) for a minute, but that didn't come to pass. through the late spring and early part of the summer, leon was a fixture at slu. he played in all the pickup games, hung out a little bit. one weekend, when vashon was playing at a team camp out of twon, leon stayed behind to work. he spent much of that weekend on campus hanging out with dwayne. knowing that they had offered, the coaches were pretty encouraged to see leon around campus so often. the staff has been following leon's gameface team throught the summer. word on the street is that three coaches were in vegas and someone from the staff was at all of leon's games. they also watched all of his games at the NIKE camp. at this stage of the game, you don't do that with guys who you're just interested in. you do that with your prime recruiting targets. with such a limited window to actually be out on the road, you spend your time tracking the kids that you really want (and there are many). However, much of leon's presence at slu stopped happening during the summer. floyd pretty much shut that down and people have said that leon doesn't come around any more. That is probably why you won't hear SLU's name prominently mentioned when it comes to leon's recruitment. This is really not a new tactic in the recruiting game. If a high school or aau is mad at a certain school, he'll either keep his kids away from that school, let the school keep recruiting their kids and spending their money with no hope of getting the kid, never mention the school during the kids' recruitment. word has it that floyd is really waiting on mizzou, who has been very cool on leon, but has recently picked up the pace in the last few weeks. maybe that's true. I don't know. anyway, if leon wants to become a billiken, he'll come. if not, you just keep working. bad boyz for life
  18. I'd like to see slu get luke's other cousin. Her name is Kathleeen Scheer, a 6'2" guard from New Haven, Mo. (a junior) she would look good in a billiken uniform playing for shimmy. bad boyz for life
  19. hope you didn't pop a blood vessel writing that last post. bad boyz for life
  20. because they have already offered powell. don't know why they didn'f offer harrellson. bad boyz for life
  21. yes, slu has. bad boyz for life
  22. word on the street was that a slu coach was in vegas tracking leon throughout much of the tournament that game face played in. can anyone verify this? bad boyz for life
  23. more misinformation from v-time. imagine that? bad boyz for life
  24. even more reason to put the complaints to bed. bad boyz for life
