  1. ...though gruehls nearly died when he found out his youngest child was accepted at, and offered a scholarship to, SLU. howdy bonwich. most definately a great memory. in my experience, good things always happen when good friends and quality single malts are present in large quantities. it is rumored that someone, someday, somewhere, perhaps engaged in unpleasant conduct in the aftermath of basketball in cincinnati, but i do believe those rumors relate only to unsophisticated xavier fans. and, of course, slu72, who has never had a friend or met sophistication (much less single malt scotch), though he holds a singular degree of familiarity with trailer park management and things regarding bad barbeque sauce. p.s. Quickdraw is a man of unsurpassed discrimination in his evaluation of historic poster talent. regrettably, there is no A-10 fan to fill the void. p.p.s. who's comin to cincy?
  2. >Gruehls, in addition to the potentially hostile local >citizenry, Collinsville is generally known as one of the >most dangerous speed traps in the Midwest. Keep that >speedometer close to the limit at all times. Of course, you >still may run afoul of the law if you match a certain >profile.... thnx for the tip, t. i'll keep the anti-speedtrap equipment well tuned and in fine function. if the referenced profile is "dwb," they'll need another reason to pull me over. cheesy, i am not familiar with the "AYF Compact team" concept, but i don't think the St. X Bombers baseball team has any affiliation with AYF.
  3. >... I stand corrected ... its not all of this Belleville >burg that is the problem, it seems to be only one family ... >miller, muler, muller, mueller, something like ... a very >simple MRLS would probably do the trick ... that is Multiple >Rocket Launch System .... I can't load it for you as all my >bullets are chemically-enhanced and the devestation caused >would take out many innocents. yes, rumor of the infamous "mueller" clan has even reached this far. i will do all within my power to steer clear of all areas he/they have been known to frequent.
  4. >..do I owe you something? If so, e mail me your address. And >as for weapons required in Collinsville, I think that thirty >ought six automatic hanging on the rack in your pickup truck >would do the trick. Hey, by the way, go Bearcats....I'm >figuring Huggy's due for another one and done trip. But if >by some miracle he pulls it off, you get KY (stop panting >Gruehlsy, I meant the school, not the jelly)and won't that >make all you river rats quiver like a girl scout who just >sold her first box of cookies. Let's see what would be the >classic bet between a UC fan and a UK fan....the UK fan >would put up a gift certificate from Chico's All night Bail >Bonds against a UC fan putting up a set of full dentures or >possibly Xavier Hollander's guide to safe incest. no way i'm giving you my address; when we facillitate the BigBlew's return to the backwoods, you'll come a callin looking for that full set of dentures i'm gonna win.
  5. thanks for the info guys. my son's team (a fine jesuit institution called "st. xavier high school") is playing in a baseball tourney sponsored, apparently, by the slu referenced by bill above. the school had reserved some rooms at a hotel in collinsville. since we're gonna try to get there i have just one question: taj, what caliber of weaponry would you most recommend?
  6. might be bill. we just got the schedule and we're playing in the SLU tourney. do they host one drawing out of state teams early in the year?
  7. anyone know anything about a high school baseball tourney sponsored by, or run under the auspices of, SLU running from April 1 thru April 3? i'd appreciate any info. p.s. where is collinsville ill. relative to downtown st.louis?
  8. >Yeah I saw it, it's a weekly program and it's very good >actually, makes me think beyond the rumors of the guys being >"Thugs" and lets me see them as a person. I saw this show a >few times before they played SLU, everyone on that team >hustles, I mean hustles..they're a big team, they have >academically sound athletes as well and talented. I'm not a >Cincy fan, but am glad that programs are now starting to >explore the other side of players and coaches, their >relationships with each other as a team and their closeness. without even knowing your age, it is apparent that you are wise beyond your years. teach that to broy, willya? seriously, the first two shows on uc have been very good.
  9. ...and none of that abominable "Sweetwater Sal's Swampsauce."
  10. hi taj. no question the bearcats will confront a new dynamic in the big east. but they held their own against the best marquette, louisville, depaul, memphis and uab had to offer over the years. time will tell.
  11. >Real hard to tell, since we (and apparently no NCAA team) >don't ever report actual attendance. I'd ballpark it at >between 7,000 and 8,000, thanks in part to those like the >three black-tank-topped, red-haired high-school kids who sat >directly in front of our season tickets (with tickets bought >and paid for by walking up to the window at game time). By >the way, Gruehls, did you pick me out directly behind them >when the Fox 19 cameras showed them during a first-half time >out? I mouthed a message to you (although board decorum >probably precludes repeating it .) i could read what you mouthed; i didn't realize you were such a champion of the anatomically impossible. please remind roy that sour grapes make a fine whine.
  12. the cincy enquirer box score shows last night's attendance was 8,761. on tv, it looked like, well, a whole lot less than that. what was the actual number of fans in the stands?
  13. >...check out our secondary board (via link to "Offseason >Board" at top of this page). There's a (legitimate) query >for you. done. thnx joe.
  14. >by that Yankee slime Porridge Boy. I would be much obliged >if you would make a public apology as I did send you some >sauce. It may not have been Maurice's but it was southern >and it was hot. I was hoping to wreak havoc on your >digestive tract. There is no way we are betting straight >up....I need points and if you were a gentleman and a man of >honor you would gladly grant Beauregard his due. Could it be >you are actually a little frightened of the Billikens? I do >not understand your Huggy attitude? By the way the RV was >scrapped in the last hurricane. I now drive and live in an >85 chevy camper that is held together and kept watertight by >Big Bass stickers and Rebel Flags. C'mon porridge boy, I >need my skyline..... you have no honor to disparage. or disparge. our wager was skyline if you won, maurice's if i won. i won, but i sent you some skyline anyway. you lost and you sent me something like "Sweet Sal's Swampwater," a product so foul i am certain that you used it to clean, or power, that 85 Chevy's engine. on the subject of points, beauregard, i'll spot you 7 out of the kindness of my Yankee heart. >After the Billikens "shock" your Bearcats -- for the second >time this season -- in Memphis in a couple of months, you >won't have to worry about the Bills anymore, as the Parolees >from the Queen City will slink off to the middle of the Big >East pack for the next five years while the Billikens go to >the A-10 and dominate. > >Farewell. howdy thicks. i see slu72 sent you some of "Sweet Sal's Swampwater" too, and you actually are consuming it. as for you guys dominating a conference, well, there's a first time for everything. i could tell you what that feels like, but i don't want to ruin the surprise. bonwich, from now on, no single malt for you, just that blended junk. and for the wine? zinfandel, you heretic. roy, you don't want that recipe. really. but if and when we finally meet, i'll let you have some of bonwich's white zin. okay?
  15. >Law Boy. Have you been smoking some of that stuff your >client base traffics? I'll give you 7 the day after they >announce Kerry swept Ohio. well dang; you trailer park types surely do drive a hard bargain. and that's a good thing,'cuz you surely can't drive the RV you've had parked there for goin on 9 years now. how about we just wager even up; i'll take my bearcats and you take your billikens? hell, you never paid off on the last wager you lost. >Boy, has he got you fooled. You fell for that "I'm a big >hotshot lawyer" act? Naww -- he attended the University of >Cincinnati. Which means, based on his qualifications, that >he's the one who "swept Ohio" -- five days a week for the >past 25 years or so. either you are deliberately obtuse, or i need to show you special tricks you can do with a broom. >i thought gruehls was a cook at the montgomery inn. i gave >him all the credit for those tasty onion rings the last time >i was in cincy. actually, that was me; wanna know what i put in the batter for your onion rings? what, oh what, have i ever done to deserve such derision? "gruehlsy," "porridge-boy," "law boy," short order cook? there was scotch for bonwich and skyline for slu72 and special recipe onion rings for roy, and this is the thanks i get? gentlemen, you've hurt me deeply, and for that, my pals on the bearcats are gonna put the hurt on your billikannots. you just wait and see.
  16. >is lurking around the Billiken board like a the candy man at >an elementary school playground. Watch out what you say. The >man with the rapier like wit and catchy turn of phrase will >kick you to the curb like a redheaded stepchild. Ok, >porridge boy, I want the spread for four cans of skyline >against two of Maurice's BBQ (Mustard and Rebel Yell). Bet? >Also, the girls from the Pearly Gates Trailer Park have been >asking about you. i hope you're a redhead. uc vs. the redhot billikannots at the infamous savvis center? i'll take the bearcats and you give me 7 points. fair?
  17. >gruehly, i saw that huggy really ran it up last nite. one >would think he would have let the bench have a little more >pt in order to rest up for the big challenge tomorrow nite? > >what's up with your message board? i never see any activity >while lurking? surely the great chatter is around >somewhere. he isnt the type to go away and not share his >great wisdom somewhere. "gruehly?" i was there and it wasn't so much running it up as everything was going in for uc and nothing was going in for depaul. the last three at the buzzer was by a walk-on. to what "big challenge tomorrow nite" might you be referring? i think we play those billkannots, and everyone knows they're bearcat fodder. the messageboard situation hasn't been the same since the demise of cusa-talk. as for the messageboards we use, there's actually a variety of them but my favorites are: http://www.bearcatsden.com/ and http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/bigeast/invi...php?act=SF&f=29. i don't think chatter is registered on either, at least not as "bearchatter." stop by and insult some of us.
  18. >appreciate a summary of Huggy bear's comments. Bet one of >them is, "we're not very good right now, even though we are >10-1 and ranked 17th, and so any team in the conference is >capable of beating us on any given night. We expect a hard >fought game from the Billikens." ahem. that would be 12-1. thank you and carry on.
  19. >Who really cares what time the game is Saturday? Do we >really stand a chance? in answer to the questions, no one cares and no, you have no chance. everyone watch the NFL, and tell the billikannots to call it in. save the bearcats the trauma associated with inflicting pain upon the hapless and the helpless and save yourselves the trauma of watching it. i myself wish i had avoided the trauma associated with watching the fightin illini demolish uc. oh, the pain, the pain. speaking of pains, how's slu72, bonwich, thicks, and roy doin these days?
  20. >ACE, please drop this. gruehls has been one of the >classiest and best Cincinnati fans we've had here, and you >are antagonizing him. He's been cordial to SLU fans and >even rooted for the Billikens when they're not playing the >Bearcats, but you may be turning him away. Please cease and >desist. my skin's not so thin, thicks, but thanks for the kind words. i know where ACE is coming from, even if i think his characterization is too harsh. it was a pleasure to meet slusign and taj at the tourney. sorry i didn't get to meet you as well. i'll still be cheering for the bills in all contests not involving the 'cats.
  21. you said: "Any school that allows the likes of Donald Little, Dontonio Wingfield and Robert Whaley can't be taken seriously." I'm not making that up; I've requoted it 3 times. And I don't have to contort plain English in an effort to argue over what the meaning of the word "is" is. It's a stupid statement about a school that has plenty of things to be proud of. You don't like what comes thru UC's hoops team, great. A lot of people don't. But it's a still a stupid statement, made repeatedly, and it's no more valid than me saying "SLU basketball can't be taken seriously because they don't produce enough All-Americans."
  22. hello you sluzie floozie. man, imagine the game if XU had played the Illini; some unbelievably accurate shooting from far, far away.
  23. >>>Any school that allows the likes of Donald Little, Dontonio >>>Wingfield and Robert Whaley can't be taken seriously. >> >>I could make the case that that statement can't be taken >>seriously, but I came here to bury Mizzou, not praise UC, so >>I'll pass. > >Are you defending UC allowing these guys in? > >It seemed like Huggins may have actually started to clean it >up a little, but he just couldn't resist. Along came Robert >Whaley! i tried to make clear that my purpose was to respond to roy's request for info, not mount a defense of UC. but since you seek clarification, my further point is that it's ridiculous to claim, as you did, that the presence of those 3 participants in the basketball program somehow defines the value of UC as an educational institution.
  24. >Any school that allows the likes of Donald Little, Dontonio >Wingfield and Robert Whaley can't be taken seriously. I could make the case that that statement can't be taken seriously, but I came here to bury Mizzou, not praise UC, so I'll pass.
  25. ...welcome back. Got the pm, but wasn't sure when you'd be back our way. Here's the link you requested: http://cincinnati.cusa-talk.com/modules/ne...2193&forum=9&34. Give my best to Ryan. Oh yeah, go SLU; kick the corned beef and spuds outta the Irish.
