Hagerty and Sweetin Sign with Billikens

SLU also picks up two transfers.

Feb. 17, 2005

St. Louis - Saint Louis head men's soccer coach Dan Donigan today announced that Chad Hagerty (Louisville, Ky. / St. Xavier) and Eric Sweetin (Overland Park, Kan. / Rockhurst) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University and play for the Billikens. Each will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2005-06 academic year.

A midfielder, Hagerty is a 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) adidas Scholar All-America and was the Kentucky Eurosport Player of the Year in 2003. He earned All-State honors in both 2003 and 2004 and helped lead St. Xavier to state titles in 2002 and 2003. As captain of the Javanon club team for six years, he led Javanon to five state titles, to a regional championship in 2003 and to the national semifinals that same year. He also has played for the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional team in four of the past five years.

A midfielder, Sweetin is a 2004 NSCAA adidas All-American and Missouri co-Offensive Player of the Year. He is a two-time (2003, 2004) All-State selection and the 2004 Western Missouri Player of the Year. He also received Rockhurst's Golden Boot Award after serving as the Hawklets' co-captain for the past two seasons. He was a four-year starter at Rockhurst. Sweetin played seven years for the Kansas ODP team and was a 2003 All-Star Inter-regional ODP selection. He played 11 seasons for the KCFC Alliance club team and captained the team for four years.

Hagerty and Sweetin join a recruiting class that includes midfielder Denaldin "Dado" Hamzajic (St. Louis, Mo. / Mehlville), who shared the Missouri Offensive Player of the Year award with Sweetin. Hamzajic is a two-time NSCAA All-Midwest Region selection and St. Louis Post-Dispatch first-team All-Metro performer. He finished his senior season with 45 points (15G, 15A). Hamzajic is currently enrolled for the spring semester at SLU after graduating from Mehlville early.

Saint Louis also picked up two transfers, who are returning to their hometown and will have three seasons of eligibility beginning with the 2005-06 academic year. Midfielder/defender Zack Przybeck (St. Louis, Mo. / Ladue) spent his freshman year at St. John's and got into five games for the Red Storm. Forward/midfielder Colin Rooney (Kirkwood, Mo. / DeSmet) attended Massachusetts for his freshman year and saw action in nine matches for the Minutemen.
