Braves re-sign Meyer 15 Jul, 2010 04:00 AM SYMES Motors Bendigo Braves star American import Luke Meyer has re-signed with the club for the 2011 SEABL season. Meyer, who hails from New Haven in Missouri, will re-join the team after a standout 2010 season. The former Saint Louis College basketballer has averaged 19.4 points and six rebounds per game with the Braves this season. Meyer has not only been a success on the court for the Braves. He has been heavily involved in community activities off the court as well as hosting junior basketball clinics. The 24-year-old, who joined the Braves after a stint with the Geraldton Buccaneers in Western Australia's State Basketball League, said he has really enjoyed his time at the Braves. "I've really enjoyed getting involved with the community," he said. "I've just enjoyed hanging out with the team and really getting to know them this year and I've grown really close to them." Meyer added the re-signing of coach Ben Harvey also played a part in his decision to stay. "One of the big factors in coming back is that Ben Harvey is also coming back next year," he said. "I think our chances of winning this year are very good. We've got all the pieces we need to be successful. "We had two big wins on the weekend and with four games to go we're definitely on the right track." Harvey said signing Meyer on for another season is a major coup for the Bendigo team. "We're very happy to have Luke signed on for 2011," Harvey said. "He's been a big part of our success this year. We're really looking forward to Luke going to that next level next year." Meyer will return home to the US after this season to marry his long-time girlfriend Jill, who is expected to join Meyer in Bendigo next year. Talks are still being held with the Braves other American import Ivan McFarlin, who the club hopes to re-sign for the 2011 season in the coming weeks. If I were a college player that wasn't going to cut it in the NBA, why not go down under? Better than France in winter, and they speak English.
