  1. In the argument of MR not having a ton of assists in high school, the offense ran more so through Paul White and Jahlil. They didn't set up a ton of sets and had a lot of isolation. It isn't the sole reason why Miles didn't rack up a ton of assists, but it certainly didn't help his numbers as a distributor.

  2. Brunson has been my favorite guard in his class for quite some time ever since my school played Stevenson in the summer of my junior (his sophomore) season. Villanova got themselves an absolute steal, as I believe he was more polished than his ranking by scouting services would indicate. He should do big things in the big east.

  3. He definitely is a skilled player, but most of his scoring is based around his pure power that comes from his 250 lbs. He is a unique matchup because of how fast he can move for someone that big. It really is unprecedented from an athletic standpoint.

  4. LeBron is an incredible talent, however I cannot deal with the slack he gets from officials. Yes, I know that superstars all have special treatment, but the amount of whining he does waters down the enjoyment I should have from watching him. That, coupled with his sprinkling of excuses in post game conferences following a win to make him seem more heroic just puts a sour taste in my mouth. The Cavs are up more so because of their ability to play solid team defense and disrupt the warriors offensive efficiency. However that doesn't get discussed much when LeBron is putting up huge numbers regardless of his inefficiency in doing so.

  5. Athletes from Canada do not qualify for federal awards so money he was receiving was strictly from SLU. That being said, the relative level of "broke" that an athlete is when graduating after having a full scholarship is not as significant as students on partial scholarships or no aid at all. Perhaps GG was not a full scholarship player, or had money taken away this year due to him not being with the team. However it is hard to believe that he is as in debt as the general population of the school.

  6. I understand the spirit of your point, but the point itself is a...bold one.

Tatum's other choices are historical powerhouses Duke, Kentucky, and UNC. Sure, they've all had down years (by their standards), but do you think all three would be down in the same season?

What works in SLU's favor there is that there is more unknown on their rosters, given the one-and-done churn that UK and Duke in particular are experiencing. They're undergoing major roster overhauls this offseason, and while none of them are currently bringing in classes of the size and rank of this past season, there's no reason to think this trend will die completely at the blueblood programs barring a sudden rule change by the NBA.

Don't forget how bad SLU was this past season. As in, historically bad. Yes, the core freshman class is still intact, but they have a long, long way to go and I flat-out don't see any potential in a couple of them. Without Tatum, this program appears to be 3+ years away from another NCAA Tournament appearance, and that's as optimistic as I can be. With him, it just depends on what he's surrounded with and if the team comes together well. This team needs a lot more than one player, though, even if that player is a one-and-done talent of Tatum's caliber.

I too do not see potential in a freshman or two, but in sports the greatest improvement is (usually) between a player's first and second year of starting. In college basketball it follows a different trend, but these guys were given a trial by fire last year. Yes, at times it was difficult to watch, but I am optimistic going forward. I think in two years if Tatum comes here it is a top 25 team. There will be two guys who can space the floor in Crawford and Bartley, and a respectable third option in Roby if he continues his improvement behind the arc. In addition, there will be some length up front with Gillman and Neufeld, strength with Millik and Reggie, and some wildcard athleticism from Reynolds. I know I am more glass half full on the future than some other people here, but we are in a much better position going forward than some would believe.

Now, as it relates to the Blue Bloods. They will be good in two years, it is fact. My point should have been that Tatum will have a chance to have the offense flow completely through him in a conference that is a notch or two below the power 5. His road to a national title is not easy at any of these schools, that is just the nature of college basketball. But, by coming here and being surrounded by a group that has played together for mainly two years he would perhaps be in a better position during times of adversity once the post-season rolls around. At the end of the day, his road will be difficult no matter where he goes. But if I were him, I would have more confidence in a team that has been through the season twice than one comprised entirely of freshmen. Yes, a superteam might have more talent, but as we have seen through the years in the tournament- talent isn't the ultimate determinant of who wins the title.

  7. Whoa. I'll have what you're having.

I understand how I come off as overly optimistic on this topic but our current players are two years away from where they will be. Therefore it is hard to picture the cast surrounding FBJT when he gets here. This is a good thing. College weight training and experience will do good things for this group. Perhaps it is a bit much saying SLU has the best NCAA chances, but if we are going to dream why shouldn't we dream big?
  8. Looking at the situations that all the contenders will be in Tatum's freshman year, I truly believe that SLU gives him the greatest chance to make a run in the NCAA tournament. At SLU, either in the A-10 or Big East, he will be the star of the conference from day one. When he steps on campus, he will be joining a roster that features an upperclassmen core that knows how to play together. Yes, this year they took their lumps and need to improve, but expected growth and chemistry among this unit is something that the other schools cannot match because of their revolving door of one and dones. There is a lot to be said for experience in the NCAA and that is something that SLU can provide to FBJT right from the start. While I know that none of this is new information to those of us on this board, I just can't sit here and think that the benefits of the Blue Bloods outweigh what we can provide. I think sometimes people focus too much on the fact that he is drawn to home as the only reason why he may pick SLU. Yes it is a huge part of the equation, but I think the fact that he will be able to step into an experienced team would pay dividends for our recruiting pitch as well.

  9. +1

All three of those guys are in the top 15 in the league.

That's not counting Patrick Patterson, Terrence Ross, and Eric Bledsoe, among others.

Terrence Ross went to the University of Washington if I'm correct. Terrence Jones did go to Kentucky and has been a respectable NBA player, but not something that should make FBJT choose Kentucky.
  10. I still wish New Era would make a no frills, solid blue fitted with the white Billiken face. Have yet to see one. But camo print stretch-fitteds and highlighter yellow and black SLU caps galore.

I believe nike and under armour are the two main hat producers for SLU based on what I see in the bookstore.
  11. There is something in the works. Whether or not it actually happens will depend on students' willingness.

I haven't heard of anything being in the works, if there is I know many of us would love to be a part of it. For as disengaged as many students seemed this year in regards to the program, the recruitment of FBJT is something many people are focusing on.
  12. Just because Tatum goes to a blue blood doesn't mean he will make the final four. Duke got bounced with Jabari and Wiggins didn't accomplish much at Kansas. This doesn't mean SLU is the best chance, but nothing is a guarantee and none of us know what his desires are until he announces.

  13. While mixtapes are not the best indicator of talent, he appears to be a fairly calm player with the ball in his hands and looks for his shot. While he appears very fluid and smooth on the court, I would not describe him as particularly quick. We will see when he gets here in the fall, but I think this is a good signing. He may not be the "pure point" that everyone seems to want, but he looks like a good addition to the core.
