Not trying to interfere with the functioning of public media, I think I should ask: What difference does this make? If anything it means we have reached a level in public awareness that makes us a viable target from the point of view of public media. As we know this is the kind of one sided coverage that sells viewership and attracts readers. We are a nation where we look for victims and guilty parties. This is sad. The more we grow in strength and standing, the more coverage of this type we are likely to get.

The ones that are "villanizing " the kid are the ones that need a guilty party in every issue. There are innumerable cases with no guilty parties. Things happen because there is a divergence of needs and capabilities, that is all. No one, I assume this is true, wants anything bad happening to the kid. However we all want the best for SLU. The Coach has the responsibility to balance what is best for the team and for the program, and he has taken action.
The kid did not receive the very bad news just before finals, he had a chance to do well in them and not flunk any course or any number or courses. The team, in the judgment of the coach is going for a brighter future. The kid is not lacking offers.
I do not see this as a black and white situation, or one with a bad person and a good person. I think this is just the way things happen in real life.

NH, I am not saying anyone did anything wrong either. I am saying that you do not get to the top with good intentions only, you have to build up your team to a level that will get you there.
And yes, feelings get hurt, and people go through hard times. But this, as has been posted before, may not be the worst that may happen to Drew. It may indeed put him in a path where he can come closer to his goals.
Your post is a good example of a feeling / judgmental personality at work.

OK people let's take Jim Crews side in this discussion. Again none of us knows what happened here or what had been said before to Drew in terms of improvements, etc... Let's just look at this from the point of view of what does Jim Crews want, or needs, or feels capable of doing with the team he took over officially a few months ago.
From my point of view, which many of you do not agree with of course, Jim Crews has a great opportunity to lead a SLU team as far as is needed to clinch the NCAA basketball championship. He has a good, reliable and experienced crew in hand, and he is being able to sign up very impressive prospects so far. Now, and this is just a matter of perception, he needs to decide what he is going to do next, to play it safe or to go for for broke. If he wants to play safe, he can set a goal of having a team that gets to play in the NCAA tournaments for the next few years. Just playing in the NCAA tournament and getting to some kind of level there, let's say sweet sixteen, is probably enough to satisfy the powers that be at SLU and provide everyone with a nice warm glow of satisfaction. This is the "we are good," type of feeling.
Now let's say he has decided that given the circumstances he is dealing with at this particular time, he feels he has the chance to go for the full NCAA championship, not just getting to the NCAA tournament or to achieving something in the tournament, say sweet sixteen as i said before. If he chooses to go all the way, he needs to do whatever needs to be done to make as sure as he can to have what is needed to get there.
Let's say he has decided to go for the NCAA championship for SLU. This is a wonderful, commendable, and hard to achieve goal. In order to achieve this, he needs to do several things but primarily he needs to get the cast of characters that will get him, us, SLU, the billikens, there. This requires cold analysis of the capabilities of each of the players in the roster. He needs to put compassion at a lower priority level, and performance at a higher one. This is what I think, or hope, he is doing.
I do feel sorry for Jared Drew, but I support Jim Crews efforts to get us there, to the very top.

Box, I am glad you are interested in this kind of thing. The results you got are a bit paradoxical since they make you both a feeling and a judgmental person, and also an intuitive introvert. As you realize, there may be a lot of internal life in you, but you manage very well to communicate with others so you do have quite a dose of extroversion as well.

Dlarry, what generally passes as common sense is really just fast thinking, an instantaneous internal or subconscious connection that makes sense to whoever is coming up with it. When your subconscious connects there is nothing common about it. Everybody's subconscious are different. What you refer to as common sense 101 is really a very complex series of connected issues dealing with perception, stored feelings and distortions and conscious responses, we all have them. They are unique to every single one of us. If you are interested in this type of training, I will recommend you start by going back to school to beef up your educational credits, take the MCATs, apply to med school and after any number of years wind up in psychiatry with specialization in psychotherapy. This could take you maybe 8 or 10 years to do. You can also get an advanced degree in psychology but in this case you will be more into psychometrics and less into subconscious issues. I said it could be learned with enough training, not that the training was easy or readily attainable. And talking about Remy, this man is, like all others, a complex mixture of capabilities, feelings, and needs. It is my impression that he is a religious person and that religion has to be part of the mix of conditions that he is looking for.

You're confusing him with The Old Guy who has personal insight on every recruit in the country. He PM'ed me the other day with info on what Strawberry had for breakfast, which ironically was Frankenberry cereal, 2 peices of toast, one with blackberry jam and the other with boysenberry jam. He didn't eat any strawberries because that of course would be canabalism. He's aware that we like werewolves, not cannibals.
Hey sulfanskip, I found your attempts to put me down for my posts about Remy amusing, to say the least. Why did my posts riled you so much is something I cannot fathom. Let me tell you something that is real, although you may not know it: developing estimates of personality profiles from scant information is something that can be learned and applied to multiple uses. In fact it is used in may different types of jobs and businesses. All you need to have is the training to do so. I stand by what I said about Remy, he will come to SLU only if he perceives we offer what he is looking for, not just minutes of play.

I do think the kind of tweets this man sends do give a picture that shows him to be different from many others. Besides, what I said in my prior post it entirely correct. He quit a much better basketball program than SLU's, he is apparently limiting his search for a new school to Catholic Schools, he liked Xavier for undetermined reasons, and he will make his mind about SLU in his own terms. And yes, whether or not he comes to SLU depends on how well we match what he is looking for, whatever that may be. What is silly about this?

People, please remember that Remy is not your standard 18 old basketball player. He is into religion, and just transferred out of a place that is by any measure a stronger basketball school than SLU. He did like Xavier, I have no idea what they showed him there that impressed him. He will make up his mind about St. Louis in his own terms. Someone who just quits Indiana and goes shopping for catholic schools has a pretty good idea of what he is after, this is not a teenager with an identity crisis and homesickness, this is not someone looking for extra playing time. If we provide what he is looking for great, if we do not it will be a lost opportunity.

BilliKitty, my thoughts exactly. The SLU church is absolutely a work of art, something worth being seen, and certainly much prettier than the one in U. Dayton. I have never seen what Xavier or St. Mary's churches look like. He may be interested in how open the team and the system is to the way he practices religion, as well as how much he can further his beliefs wherever he chooses to go. I have the feeling Indiana was not the place for this as far as he was concerned. However, this is pure speculation on my side, I really do not know.

Remy will choose whatever he decides is best for him. Check his tweets in Verbal Commits, this is the man that proudly posts "prayer is my addiction." This is a man that has chosen three catholic schools as his choices after transferring from Indiana. He wants to play basketball at a high level, however religion is important to him. I do not think he will go after the cheerleader's looks at Xavier or anywhere else for that matter.

Hey Bonwich, Nigeria is a very large country with over 50 million people. If some of them are heavy into cons and stealing, well so we can find many such people right here in the US. The fact that they have scams like the ones you talked about going on has absolutely nothing to do with the majority of their people which are decent and trying to make a living and raise their families. There are competent athletes in Nigeria as there are in the rest of Africa. If we can benefit from getting information about these competent and proficient athletes who are currently in the US trying to get to play for NCAA schools, much the better. Please do not put down a whole country or a whole continent because there are thugs in there, there are thugs everywhere.

Do not stop at this page check what team Nigeria says about their players seeking slots in the NCAA, I am sorry to say I have not checked the Ghana Web to the same length I have the Team Nigeria site. There is a lot of information in there about players and where they go. Team Nigeria even has an NCAA tab in its web site.

There is a wealth of information on African basketball players currently graduating from HS / prep school in the US and seeking placement at college teams, particularly high level teams. The Team Nigeria site lists about two dozen of these, all members of Nigeria's national teams (inter African play and well as internally in Nigeria), Randy Onwuassur is one of these. Reggie Agbeko is from Ghana, again featured in Team Ghana or Ghana basketball, cannot recall which. These are really high quality players with LOTS more experience than HS school play may suggest to any of us. The Nigerians are being snatched by places like Duke and Syracuse. I think we really have to consider these candidates as better qualified than the normal HS graduate level would suggest, probably also older and more mature in experience. Please feel free to check the net, it is interesting.
I just posted this in the recruits thread and then thought it fit here as well. It is possible that Reggie Agbeko may be capable of professional level play from early on. Let us also hope that Randy Onwassur decides in favor of SLU.

This is my first post. I checked Verbal Committments because of the change in the interest status credited to Randy. They say so verbally and also changed the color which he is listed under to dark blue which means high interest. Well, I noticed that Tanner's color had also been changed to dark blue from the lighter color it had before. I assume this means he has declared somewhere his interest in SLU has gone to high?
