This announcement needs to come some so that I can get back to getting some work done.

Travis Ford is a very talented recruiter with roots in the midwest. If he isn't able to sign a top 100 local kid in the next year or three , then I'm going to assume it just isn't possible.
Or possibly in the next week.

Aussies up at half 54-49.

He will have to take it away from Captain Phillips
Nice. LOL.

Apparently, their not saving it, because they're up 25-17 in the first quarter. First time I recall cheering against the US, but since they will probably win it all anyway, I'm wanting Lisch to get a medal.

IMO the problem with the Eagles is that they want you to take a chance on their lesser players, but they never will reciprocate by pushing their studs your way. The people in charge want to be able to claim that kids from their program went to Duke, Florida, Kansas, etc. I truly believe they prefer their top talent to go elsewhere, while at the same time they dog SLU for not taking their lesser talent. Sometimes I think SLU is in a lose-lose situation with the Eagles.
Maybe Tate can change things with the Eagles.

The story on Groce is that he is a good recruiter that doesn't turn the talent he brings in into wins. He also doesn't turn that talent into NBA players. Is there any better reason for a kid who might want to play in the NBA not to want to go there?

I'm assuming this is all heading toward an eight team final tournament. If AUS finishes second in their Group, then they would either be the 3 or the 4 seed in the tournament. That would get them either the 5 or the 6 seed. Win that game and they would only have to win one of their next two in the tournament to medal.
If the Aussies land a medal, we would have to find a way to get him back for a game this season for a halftime ceremony.

I'm just happy that Alabama cared enough to put our new logo on the schedule.

These new PD columnists are awful. The only thing worse than their writing is their radio show.
+1. I absolutely cannot listen to their radio show.

Agree. The Cardinal Hall of Fame is going to start having the same problem. They induct four every year. Pretty soon, we're going to be ending up with guys like Hrabosky and Pendleton getting in.

You got a chuckle out of me, Old Guy.

Great shirt. Better future Billiken. Nice work.

We should try to get in that CBE tournament in Kansas City as often as they will allow us. Great access for our fans.
Why is it that St. Louis doesn't have some sort of tournament like this?

It appears as if his best skill is getting people to hire him.

I am curious what metric(s) makes Grawer successful and Crews, Soderberg and Romar not. I understand that Crews inherited his success for the most part but am curious. Is it just improvement? Exceeding expectations--does he get a pass because it was long ago? Grawer barely averaged to be an average NCAA D-I team in his tenure and never got his teams to the NCAA (he had as we know NIT success). Crews got two NCAA appearances and wins. Soderberg never got SLU to the NCAA tournament but his worst year was basically Grawer's average (Grawer had 2 better seasons than Soderberg's best but he had 4 worse teams than Soderberg's worst). Romar had the best average record relative to other D-1 teams and an NCAA appearance.
The following shows the average SRS (0 is average D-1) of each coach and percentage of NCAA years by coach. I think other factors should be at play (like Crews bad seasons are really bad compared to any other coach but Grawer) but it is interesting view.
Coach Ave SRS Ave NCAA Jim Crews 4.46 50% Rick Majerus 4.95 20% Brad Soderberg 4.32 0% Lorenzo Romar 8.63 33% Charles Spoonhour 8.49 43% Rich Grawer 0.93 0% Grawer gets more credit for taking a program that was nowhere and returning it to being average to above average. I would argue the NIT runs were above average years. Those years also returned energy and buzz to the program. Going from nothing to respectability is Grawer's legacy. His time allowed the Spoonhour years to occur.
Crews took a team that had been to the tournament twice in a row and got them back there one more time before absolutely destroying it.
Romar was doing some positive stuff before leaving. Soderberg kept the seat warm for Majerus.

Even though I would have preferred he go to SLU, I actually appreciate Tilmon staying home to play for his home state team. Better than him going to KU or other top schools. I don't think there was a chance of him coming to SLU anyway.

That's funny. I can see someone whispering in his ear while Borzello was typing his Tweet, "you were supposed to mention Mizzou also."

Pistol, Jr.: SG, 1'10", 8, Cincinnati, OH (High School TBA) – Offers: None. Interest: SLU. Latest News: Two* drawing strong interest from all over the country. He can dunk and likes the transition game. Still needs to work on his basic motor skills. Needs to add some weight if he wants to be able to take the ball inside at the college level. Twitter: none yet.
Congrats, Pistol.

As if there were not enough ammunition, if Grandy even ended up getting looked at by NBA teams, that would be the greatest indictment of the Crewsplatt era. As said above, it also would give us hope that the current guys may not be as bad as they were when they were shoulder deep in the dumpster fire of the past two years.

Great move by Chris May. The only better move was hiring her in the first place.
The question was going to be whether Stone wanted to parlay her success at SLU into another BCS job like the one she had a Wisconsin. Signing this deal is, hopefully, a sign that she plans on staying here long term. Get ready for some NCAA appearances by our women's team.

5. Watching Anthony Bonner and the Bills play in the NIT at Kiel Center with my father when I was a kid. Our seats were in the very top row. It's where my love of the Billikens began.
4. The Bills beating ranked Butler at home. My profile pic is the view from my seats as the students stormed the court.
3. Road trip I took with three other guys in approx. 1995 to see the Bills play Memphis (St.) at the Pyramid. Drove there in the morning and drove back after the game. We crammed about three days of stuff into one day. The Bill tied the game with seconds left on a half court shot, but lost in overtime. Two of our guys mooned the Pyramid and the Memphis fans out the side windows as we drove away.
2. Beating Butler at Hinkle Field House. Went with seven friends this time. Like a previous poster said, there were several hundred Billiken fans there. Whole weekend was a blast, including trying the shrimp cocktail at St. Elmo's.
1. Columbus weekend. Went with my father and my 9 year old son. Amazing memory. My father passed away a year and a half later. So glad we took that trip.
So excited that the next batch of great Billiken memories seems to be on the way.

Can players sign during a dead period, or a quiet period? If not, a decision could be made, but they have to wait out making it official.
-
Odd that we are offering two star guys so early. I can only assume that Ford thinks the recruitment of these guys is going to blow up, and he wants to be able to tell them that he recognized their talent early on.
