  1. It felt like 2013 out there tonight. What a game. I was in section 105 right behind Mike for the big shot. Perfect! Seriously though, is this improvement or a fluke. The lineup at the end of the game was key. Won't work against big teams, but the athleticism was good. And Reggie needs to play 30 minutes..as does Mike, Miles and Roby. Rotate the other minutes with centers, Yac and a SMALL dose of Milik who seems to be lost. Bartley should not take his warmup off. Jolly might actually have some use. He played ok tonight.

Now, can we get coached up to beat VCUs gimmick offense. GW was a top 25 rpi team. We channeled the old school tough trapping D to force turnovers. That is the recipe for success.

  2. REAL Replies please

First of all it was almost sold out.

Crews is officially the worst coach in D1. I'm sorry....the game he won this year were lucky. This man has no idea how to coach period. We just shuffle random players in with no rotation or plan to allow for chemistry. Plus the team has NO alpha whatsoever. That guy who can take the ball and make the big shots. We had Marquee, Reggie, Kevin, Kwamain, Jordair. And now? nobody.

And our BEST lineup is Reynolds, Roby, Crawford, Milik, Reggie. Those 5 should play 75 percent of the clock time. Stop playing useless players. AG cant do anything but get fouls, Neufeld isnt ready, Bartley sucks, and YACOBOU isn't really a D1 player. Reggie is the ONLY man on this team who isn't allergic to offensive rebounds and putbacks.

  3. Mr joe labs left out that UTM was missing it's best player. Something is rotten in Denmark.

Really? There best player wasn't one of the guys who hit like 4 3s.. wow. Yes this horrific. We were a top tier program as recently as 2013-2014. Yes those players left...but that should've been recruiting heaven. Crews is just awful. I shouldn't have turned from my view of wanting him out. He never won at army or evansville. Does Calbert Cheaney do anything?

  4. Ok, I am back on wanting Crews gone. The man simply has no clue. Issues

#1 You had the 3 greatest years in team history, and you COULDN'T RECRUIT OFF OF THAT SUCCESS? It might take 30 years to reach that point again.

#2 Any CYC coach knows that when you have a 12-4 lead and jack up 8 3s that all miss, you probably should call a time out in there somewhere. UT wasn't hot at first, they were missing too. But eventually they are gonna hit some.

#3 Yes UT had an ungodly shooting night and got a miracle at the half end. But, that shouldn't have mattered. No one played defense for most of the first half. Wide open looks. Again, timeouts in the pocket.

#4 This team amazingly cut a 23 point defecit to 3 before the under 4 timeout. But rather than crews coaching them up at that point, they implode again and foul a 3 point shooter.

Overall. We had more talent then them. The team is lazy and not coached. Jimmy just cycles random people in and hopes it works. There is no structure or plan, whatsoever.

The high point of the season was north florida. But it becomes clearer that was a gimmick team. If they don't hit 40 3s they lose, and they don't play D. Hence our hot shooting.

All that is left now is to win enough to make the A10 tourney and hope for a miracle run. Thats it.

Fire Crews now, and bring in that Monmouth coach. He is beating top programs at MONMOUTH. But, alas, Biondi, the only guy with balls at SLU, is gone. So look foward to years of mediocrity. Why are we doomed to the worst coaches in this town. Fisher, liar, useless, no idea.+ leaving town. Matheny, wants to be everyone's friend and is a tactical idiot. Hitchcock..expired about 2004. Dreary future for STL sports...

At least with Brad we had fun stuff like beating Louisville when Marquee went off. Anthony Drejaj hitting buzzer beaters etc. Not losing to blood donation teams.

  5. No, this team lacks better players. Why can't we recruit the kinds of players that we see whooping on us in our own building?

Need a coach that can either recruit better or coach them up better or preferably both.

As I said we will always be out done talent wise. Getting a player today to come here and ACTUALLY ATTEND CLASS..behave himself, and probably make a 4 year commitment is hard. Need to coach up who we have. That is what Rick did.

  6. This team lacks one thing more than anything, and that is mental toughness.

The whole game was defined by 2 moments.

#1 We lead 7-2, 2 silly fouls later we fold up after not being able to stretch lead.

#2 Lead is cut to 26-25. Timeout. I turned to the better half and tell her, we just can't fall apart in the next 1:41 and we can have a game 2nd half. Game on, Mike lines up for 3 for the lead...steps on endline. Again mental breakdown..6-0 run...2nd half opens, become 11-1 run. Ballgame.

Crews has to do a better job of preparing his teams for adversity. The billikens almost ALWAYS will be out athleted... even against teams like Morehead. They have to win with grit, strong fundamentals, solid defense, and ball control offense. RM new this. Even Soderberg knew this. Crews seems to not realize it.

Think about it, this really started in 2013-2014. All those games Jett had to save us in. Things were already fracturing. And we had Wichita beat that year and then screwed it up second half. I wanted Crews out last year. I gave him hope this year when I saw him legitmately trying to insall his system for his players....

But it seems he has no system. Morehead wasn't a trap game...this team is trapped in mediocrity, and I don't know what can save it.

And why do Miles and Davell decide to take over late 2nd half, good dribble drives either converting or drawing fouls, and 2nd half..they are in witness protection... This team cannot adjust.

Last...North Florida was a gimmick team. If they go 20-25 from 3 they win. Anything else they are awful. The win over them was inflated, by me and others.

  7. Could be. He was accused of being a troll last year and I'd say posting on here as a contrarian would be almost the definition of a troll.

Last year we looked like a grade school team. The group has show flashes this year. Wiz's breakdown of how the lousiville game was almost the same as our good team was dead on. I feel this group can and should be in every game the rest of the year. This was just a screwup game. If 6 weeks from now we have been blown off the floor a few more times I will be calling for Jimmy's head again.

  8. First of all, if you look back through my posts I wanted crews out last year..and even year before, and was labeled a troll. So that was just a bit off. I am in his corner after this one.

..games can turn on one play. The BS call on Mamood flipped the momentum. Louisville didn't need help.

Neufeld is going to be a player. By 2017-2018 we might have the next Matt Howard.

I questioned Reggie not playing much in GDT..but I saw why in the 2nd half. He is a bulldog but his footspeed was not getting it done. And he was useless offensively.

It was NOT the size issue that really did us in. Their one big was out. Mango could've had his (as he did first half) if we handled guards. 2nd half we decided to let their guards run to the rim and get easy layups and fouls. The talent was a factor too. Those 2 transfers are going to be HUGE.

By years end this is probably top 10 to top 15 team. The game was closer than the final score which is a positive.

Overall, we are NOT looking at a mess this year. We hung with UL for most of the game while our top scorer was SHUT OUT and UL got a little ref love and our guards simply couldn't athletically match up.

SLU will be a factor in the A10 race. If Neufeld continues to develop, SLU can challenge to win it. Especially with EC Matthews being done. VCU will be down as well. Dayton will be a load, but we can match up.

Also, we have to give Wichita a game and possibly beat them. After handling Morehead of course.

    Those are my takes.

  9. Best win since the start of last season for sure. Crews did the coaching job. I have shown him a lot of hate. But maybe all he needed his the Jimmy offense instead of trying to run RM that is not his forte. Roby now showed the progress we needed. Neufeld and Reggies can be reals post players. Jolly...didn't even see him barely. Should stay that way.

  10. So then what to do we do against Louisville and its frontcourt? If our toothpick centers are too weak to stop them (and they are) and our "power" forwards are too small (and they are), what's the answer? Louisville's bigs in the rotation are 6-10, 245; 6-9, 225; 6-10, 220 and they have a 6-7, 200+ kid on the wing, not to mention a couple 7-footers on the bench.

We won't have the luxury of being able to go small against everyone.

Start Ash, Miles, Crawford, Milik and Reggie. Roll the ball out..hope. Have Jolly ready to absorb fouls!

  11. Reynolds has looked really good so far. Last year even in the big game he had early he would just run to the rim and hope to get fouled. He is much more in control and running the offense. I'm not worried about Roby yet because it is early and he is a guy that seems to be in the gym all the time working so would be difficult for him not to improve. Just hoping he hasn't had his breakout game yet. Bartley did have the broken foot so that may be a contributor to his slow start as it could be taking him some time to get back.

Forgot about the foot, good call. We can only hope.

  12. The new offense looks good...at times...when the right players are out there.

Big props to Jimmy tonight for making in game adjustments. This sort of thing has escaped him for a few years. The defense locked down when needed and the correct rotation got back in for offense.

After 2 games, biggest issue I see are the sophs and their progress. It isn't good, so thankfully it is earlier.

    But...

Jolly...looks the same..or worse. totally useless

Gillman...looks the same, HUGE 3 tonight though. Upset he didn't put on more weight

    Roby...seems to have regressed.

Bartley.....seems to have regressed a bunch

    Reynolds...has improved vastly.

Milik....looks the same, but was already good.

So out of 6 sophs, only one really taking a step forward in early looks. That is a bad sign. Jolly is a train wreck.

Other positives. Ash looks like he is ready to have a Jett/Kwamain type "give me the ball when we need a bucket" season. Senior leadership we need. His skills are not where those guys were but the effort is appreciated.

Crawford looks bigger, stronger and ready to be a full time player. Huge if we get 2 solid years out of him.

    Reggie is still an enigma

and next practice...3 balls and free throws...please!.

But Chris May..please get rid of that new logo...its really bad.

In summary, A good start. Bring on some cupcakes before louisville...
