Believe at one point WR was listed #19 on some NBA draft lists.
Was this billikenfan05's NBA draft list, by any chance?????? But seriously, Willie has a lot of talent and a huge upside, but like you said he just isn't there yet. I think Loe will help all our bigs improve, and they will help him improve. It's been awhile since I've been this excited about the upcoming season and beyond.
-
The 19 rule is the NBA's and it's not doing anyone any good except D. Stern.
So you don't think that this rule financially benefits the universities and NCAA? These players that should be in the NBA are now playing in college. The schools and the ncaa are making money off of showcasing these players that would not normally be there if it weren't for this rule.
The NBA is a business and has the right to make whatever rules they feel benefits their company. I think that if the players have the ability, they should be able to go to play professionally whenever they would like to...... and they can. If these kids want to play professional ball, they can play internationally somewhere.

He needs muscle and seasoning and conditioning but he will be a very difficult guy for Loe to match up with every day and Loe, with his mobility and outside shooting ability will be able to put pressure on Willie as well. It is a wonderful thing to have two bigs with such talent and upside potential.
Agree 100%
If you watched Willie play against the VCU big Sanders who supposedly may be a first round pick in the NBA draft then you could see that playing against Willie is playing against someone with NBA athleticism.
I did watch the games against VCU. In the first game Sanders played 30 minutes and scored 20 points, with 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. The second game Sanders never got into his game because of foul trouble. He played 9 minutes the first half and 10 the second. He was held 3 points which was very impressive for the Billikens but he never got into his flow, which happens to every player at some point. I am not at all saying that Willie is a bad player or that I do not like him on our team, but playing against Willie at this point in his career is not like playing against an NBA caliber player.
-
I definitely like having kids for 4 years, but I wouldn't mind getting a one and done every so often.
Agreed. I enjoy watching our players grow and improve over their four years, but the year Hughes was here was an exciting year, the crowds were huge, and we made it to the tournament. With SLU, I don't think we have to worry about having a team of one and done players.

The way WR came on at the end of the year, RL is gonna get a pretty good idea of what it will take for him to be an NBA big.
Are you saying that Loe will get an idea of what it takes to be an NBA big by practicing against Reed? I'm pretty sure that won't give him a good idea of what it takes for him to be an NBA big. Reed is not an NBA caliber player, yet. Reed did show tremendous improvement from his freshman season to his sophomore season, but that doesn't make him NBA material. Reed may give Loe more of a challenge than some bigs in New Zealand but to say he will get a good idea of what it takes to be in the NBA is a bit ridiculous.
-
That's what I was thinking the whole time... "And this is paying off how???" I don't think it helps when you're dumb and don't play with any heart.
They can say they won the NIT.
-
RL will score alot of points but so will our whole team as I expect us to score an extra 10 ppg as we increase our team scoring average from 63 ppg to 73 ppg.
I would be surprised if we averaged more than 70 points per game next season. I can see an increase in ppg but I believe maybe a five point jump is more realistic than a 10 point.

Rick Majerus teaches moving screens, as do many other respected college coaches.
My thoughts on Loe:
Seems pretty agile for a big guy, quicker than I expected and pretty coordinated. Solid Hands, though not as long a wingspan as you would hope. Weak but not soft (I will take that over soft any day). Decent release on the three, I guess I got spoiled by Cody but Rob has a pretty nice release. Will be a big factor off of pick and roll. In some ways next to Thompson, Kanter and Maesli he looked like a underclassmen playing with seniors, but I expect him to be a star in the A-10. He seems like a decent complement to Willie.
Keep in mind it is impossible to find good big men (for example, Ryan Pierson was in some ways a hot commodity just because he was 6'10" and coordinated) so Loe seems like a steal. I expect him to be a solid contributor Fr and So year before taking a bigger role after WR leaves.
On what I believe was Loe's first touch of the game, he got the ball beyond 3point and drove to the basket. Although he ran into two defenders at the basket, and couldn't finish, I was impressed with his quickness and ball handling skills. He seemed to have a quick first step and the ability to handle the ball well for a near 7 footer. That was just one possession, but with that possession I saw something that I haven't seen from a SLU 7 footer for as long as I can remember.

why the 24 second shot clock instead of 30 like college basketball and were any other rules different? Are these international rules? was the 3 point line different?
They were playing by international rules. I wasn't familiar with the goaltending rule in international ball until early in the first half when someone knocked the ball off the rim and it wasn't called. Apparently there has to be a portion of the ball that has crossed the plane of the rim, and began to go through the basket in order to be goaltending.

Not using wood bats just further exposes bad pitching.
Makes sense

JJU:
Until this post, I thought you were one of the most consistent, reliable, sensible posters on this nutboard. Salt of the Earth.
But, WTF?
High tech aluminum plutonium bats make a farce of the game.
Have you watched this sh*t?
Guys are jammed, hit the ball to the opposite field for a triple against the wall.
Gio could hit .420 these days.
Like making the hoop in basketball 8" wider.
Sorry to let you down MB. I never said I was for the use of these bats or that I am against the use of wood bats, hell I play in a wood bat league myself. I just think that the use of these juiced bats levels the playing field a bit for the teams, which is true. Using wood bats would definetly show which teams are the elite teams out there. Honestly, I think they should start using wood bats when these kids play in high school, but that will never happen.

I could take that guy....with the help of 108.
Soderball's got your back. He's got some built up aggression, from the refs this season, that he wants to take out on someone.
-
Considering the expansion is all about money and it would cost them to move the leases they already have in place with the 8 first round hosts, the NCAA will have no incentive to expand the field.
It just depends how long it takes to ink the tv deal, once they decide to opt out. The cost of moving things around to them is chump change. There incentive to expand the field is money. If they opt out of their $6 billion deal with CBS, then Fox and ESPN will be bidding billions of dollars on a new deal with the NCAA that will involve a tournament of 96 teams.
-
This may come as a shock to you, but the facilities the NCAA uses also host other events. So it is possible, if not likely, other events have already been booked where the NCAA would be trying to play the games in 2011.
I am shocked! How long have they been doing this? What will the NCAA do? What they will do is find venues to play the games if they expand next season. This isn't sociology, figure it out.
-
I don't see the 96 team field for 2010-2011 as they don't have the facilities reserved. Maybe in a couple of years.
Why would they have the facilities reserved if they haven't even made the decision yet whether they will be expanding next season or 2014? When the decision is made at the end of this month, and it looks like it is leaning towards expansion next season, they will be able to get the facilities locked up.
-
High tech aluminum / plutonium bats should be banned.
Wood bats ONLY.
These bats actually level the playing field a bit. With wood bats I believe that the gap between the great and decent teams widens. SLU would have still got the snot kicked out of them with wood bats and may have looked even worse. 32 runs but only 4 homeruns. It's not like every hitter was up there hitting the ball over the fence. Arkansas can straight up hit.

Do we have enough rebounding? We were outrebounded 2 rpg. Xavier outrebounded their opponents by 5 rpg. Is Loe a good rebounder or is he more of a finesse player? Cody will have to improve his rebounding. We need more rebounding out of the 3 position. Xavier had Love and McLean (7 rpg) as good rebounder. We really only have Willie. We need a second rebounder to emerge.
Free throw shooting needs to improve. We shot 61 %... our opponents shot 68%. I would take that type of improvement. Willie is the obvious culprit, but Kyle and Cody each shot 63%. They need to be better than that.
Is our 3-point shooting good enough? We shot 32%. As a point of comparison, Xavier shot 38%. I think we have the shooters to be better. A couple of long droughts by Christian and Cody hurt the percentage. I think they will be better and I don't exect Christian to take as many attempts. Getting to 35 or 36% is a good goal.
If you could add one type of player to this roster, who would it be? A rebounding power forward? An athletic 3? Unlike years past, we don't appear to have many glaring weaknesses. I still think an athletic, slashing, scoring 3 would be our biggest need. I don't see a true 3 on the roster. Christian and Femi? More like guards? Cody? Not yet, more like a 4. Jon Smith? Unless there is some dramatic improvement, not a scorer. Evans? Maybe, but I am not expecting him to be able to fill that role consistently as a freshman.
Rebounding is about getting position and our guys had a tough time with that due to their lack of strength/size. We just need to have these guys hit the weights hard and not allow themselves to get pushed around as much next season. I think we will see a big improvement with rebounding next season if the team comes out stronger.
Free throws need to improve somehow. I can work with these guys on their form and technique if they need me to but I still have not gotten the call. Something here needs to change.
3 point shooting will be fine next season.

You can't make up stuff like this.
Says at the bottom that he was off his bipolar meds.

The sociolgy major thing is false.
Some myth you heard second hand, you liked what you heard, but it is not accurate.
We have been over this before, Broy.
I have a recent former Duke varsity athlete, now in law school, that would like to debate you in public over this claim of yours.
At Humphries, maybe, invite some of the loons from this board.
We will tape it and put it on YouTube.
Wagering will be allowed.
He will bring facts.
What will you bring?
There's only one way to settle this.....

Fouling when up by 3 also happened in Xavier's last game.
Yes, but you're not supposed to foul on a three point attempt like X did. That kind of goes against the strategy of that type of foul.

maybe it is just me, but hayward seems to be one of those once in a lifetime like program players. imo we do not have a gordon hayward.
We sure don't
-
did he play ball professionally this year; anyone have any stats on how he did? strange thing his talents could have been used this year-a slasher who
could rebound and defend the opponent's small forward-another 10-15 poionts and 6 to 8 rebounds from a guy who could go 30 plus minutes would have helped.
I thought TL was playing somewhere in South America
-
What are you talking about? TLIII gave it 115% all of the time.
I've done studies. 60% of the time he tried, every time.
-
As long as he doesn't do a Tommie Liddell the third and stop going to classes and forget to graduate.
TL's problem was too much time at the craps tables. I saw him at the casinos all the time. I'm guessing that played a part in his senior year motivation, or lack there of.
