  1. JJ was definitely an underrated clutch shooter. He hit a lot of key trey's this season. Not to mention he was extremely smooth on the court and crafty with his passes and set ups for a freshman. Out of all the freshman on the team, he definitely had the most court composure. He seemed unusually calm and under control for a freshmen.

I'd take JJ over Jordair Jett anyday. I hope and pray that he isn't coming to replace JJ.

Jordan had a nice 3pt shot but he had a hard time getting shots off sometimes due to his size. I did like the way he took the ball to the basket and took contact or dished it off. I liked having JJ in a SLU uniform. As for him being "extremely smooth" and "under control", I have got to disagree. He was too fast for his ball handling skills, which led to out of control ball handling on several occasions and although he looked smooth at times he was far from extremely smooth on the court. I liked having him here but JJ leaving is the best thing for his playing time. He is among the majority of college basketball players who only have a few years until their careers are over. The majority of these players including JJ want to make the most out of these few years.

  2. CE's got a big jump on Conk. He's a big kid with an outside shot and can do some damage on the inside. Recall one of those CBI games where he scored 14 pts by taking his game inside when his outside shot wasn't falling. BC's a thumper... sort of an enforcer and it pays to have one of those on board. Not saying he's a goon, but he gives us a solid physical presence inside. If BC works hard on hitting putbacks and making those bunnies in traffic he'll earn his time and in a few games be one of those kids who'll surprise by getting double digits points.

I am not sold on Ellis' inside game just yet. Sure he scored 14 points in a CBI game with more than half coming from inside the paint but this was just one game and he did so against a team that had two bigs in foul trouble and was undersized. Agree, we need a player like Conklin on the team for what he brings physically to the game, not to mention having Reed, Ellis, Remekun, Smith go up against his physical play in practice.

  3. Total minutes per game assumes 3 minutes Ovt and rounding up. Total points per game - 82.

As you can see, it's hard to spread the minutes and points among this talented group of players. Because of that, I would not be surprised to see one or two of them leaving during the year for more minutes elsewhere.

Can't wait for next year and I don't care too much about the blood donors we schedule unless they hurt our RPI so much that it keeps us out of the field of 68. Tourney, next year; Sweet 16 in 2011-12!

Not gonna be even close to 82ppg. They were just under 64ppg this season but I can see them averaging up to 69-70ppg next season. That 82ppg would have been 4th in all of Division 1 this past season. But I am with you on being anxious to see this team play next season. SLU National Champions 2011-12! or at least make it the the Titillating 32!

  4. I love the Bradford pick.

If the Rams don't trade the 33rd pick, then I will be pissed.

Let someone over pay for Clausen or McCoy, then Sergio Kindle and Aaron Hernandez from Florida.

Billy Devaney said today on ESPN radio that he would be very suprised if they did not trade the 33 pick. Must be a few interested teams.

  5. Dumping money?? Sure. But all the Rams had to do was to cut the guy and he gets no money. Was there something in his contract about guaranteed money? Do the Redskins now have to pay him under the contract he signed with the Rams? If he is not worth it, guess they can cut him like the Rams could have done.

If the Rams cut him would they have gotten draft pick compensation or anything like that? They did get more than they would have if they just cut him, I believe.

  6. my problem with taking Suh over Bradford was simple. We had to come away with a qb who could play right now. Like I said, I'd have traded for McNabb, but we didn't, so someone has to play qb this year. Lets say you pass on Bradford and take Suh, are you 100% sure that Clausen or even Colt will be there? What if they aren't? There was certainly a chance none of them would be, who plays qb for you then? You can say, I feel confident one will be, but as a GM you'd be taking quite a gamble and would be completely screwed if you didn't end up with a qb that you believed could start next year.

If they took Suh, they might have done something drastic to ensure they ended up with a qb. Trading the 33 along with who knows what to move up to 25 and pick Clausen. Baltimore could have let the Rams know that Denver wanted their pick for a QB. Rams would have never expected Tebow as the one they were after and they might have gave up multiple draft picks/players for that Baltimore pick. The possibilities are endless. I just hope Bradford is our man. The Rams are due to have a draft pick end up a stud, hope it's Sam.

  7. we could have taken him first overall and taken Clausen to start the second round

Exactly!...... but who would have thought Tebow goes before Clausen and he'd still be around in the second. That would have been great to skip on Bradford and get those two. Hopefully Bradford makes me eat my words, I hope he turns out to be the real deal, but Suh and Clausen would have been niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!

  8. I agree and hope he stays. John Smith has Dennis Rodman type hops. He just needs to learn how to play.

I wouldn't say that he needs to learn how to play. He needs to work on improving his game in some areas, as well as put on some size. With added size and strength, I think we would see a big improvement on the floor next season.

  9. Firstly, and I know this is a different scenario, he did it a couple of years ago with AK, AM and DM. He has done it before, but I was not upset about it that time since he didn't recruit those kids. However, I am not naive enough to think that if a recruit wants to come here, and RM thinks he will help the team, he will not have a spot. Why do you think JJ is probably leaving? Because RM needs his scholarship.

I would bet people that if Jordair Jett comes he will end up transferring out. I'm serious, I am very confident he will end up transferring.

I was very confident about a lot of things when I was 15 too......I just hope you are taking your high school education as seriously as you are this message board. BTW....I predicted Vincent Smith leaving the program before he got here.

  10. Im not sure what to think about this whole situation. I think Jett is a great catch if we get him. hes rated as a 90 according to espn. but thompson was an 89 so you do the math. I dont agree with pushing someone out. But like an academic scholarship here at SLU you get lets say $5,500 for an academic scholarship but you have to keep a 3.0 gpa to keep it. You dont, so you lose your scholarship. Same with basketball. You get free tuition for playing a game. If you dont show signs of improvement that money may go elsewhere when coaches jobs depend on performance on a year to year basis. Yes its cut throat buts thats how it works. Hope JJ gets to stay though think he plays a big part in team chemistry.

Thompson was actually rated at 68 but when they recorded the rating in their system the sheet with the rating was upside down and therefore an 89 was recorded. I know a guy who knows a guy who told him that.

I am not sure about Jett though, I'm going to have to try to watch some other film on him. I really wasn't overly impressed by anything he did in the clip that was posted earlier. But obviosly he has impressed a lot of people to be considered one of the top unsigned point guards. As for your scholarship talk, I agree, that is just how the system works.

  11. Shouldn't we wait until we actually make the tournament before saying he is the best thing to happen to SLU?

You can do what you would like, but I believe he's the best thing to happen to the program in a long time. There is more hype surrounding the team, the recruits and their future then I've seen in awhile, and I would credit Majerus for that.

  12. I have watched every post-game interview on Nate's site. And BS was on the radio a lot more than RM. Also, every coach does those post-game press conferences.

Sodie may have been a worse coach, but he was certainly more open to the media.

Who gives a sh!t how he is with the media, Majerus is the best thing to happen to this program in a long time. He's turning the program around and we are worried about how often he is on the radio and how open he is with the media. It's like listening to my buddy tell me how his ex-wife was worse in bed than his new girlfriend who's a freak, but she communicated so much better than his new girlfriend.......again, who gives a sh!t, you got yourself a freak

  13. Isn't Calipari at $4.2 or so?

Yes I am pretty sure you are right. He is averaging $4 million over 8 years of the contract.

I just looked back at the chart I found and it was the 2009-2010 salaries for coaches who played in the 2009 tournament. USA Today posted it April 1, 2010 (link below; the database's link is next to the Gold Coin above the article that explains the database/chart). Since Kentucky didn't play, they weren't included. My numbers are probably off a little but he would still be close to the top paid coaches.

  14. I still think BT would have been a solid player for this program, but he didn't have the fire and RM couldn't find the right method to reach the kid and stoke that fire.

If Thompson would have been a solid player for this program I think that Majerus would have found the right method to get him motivated. Thompson leaving was the best thing to happen for both sides. SLU became a better team and Thompson moved on to Lindenwood where his level of game is appreciated.

Of course Majerus has his faults, who doesn't. I think that if you are a supporter of SLU basketball and its success, (like you said) you have got to enjoy seeing a coach like him with the program.

  15. while i would tell anderson to "take the money and run", conversely i would tell mizzou to "wish him luck in the great northwest".

at that level wouldnt anderson be amongst the top 20 paid coaches in the country? no way anderson is a top 20 coach. and i am sure mizzou can find another comparable coach for the nearly $2 million they are currently paying anderson. just saying.

i would think we arent getting the actual facts on this one.

    Top paid coaches:

    Krzyzewski_$4.1

    Pitino_$4.1

    Self_$3.7

    Izzo_$3.1

If he took the job, which he already stated on Wednesday that he would not, he would be the 5th highest paid coach in ncaa basketball. Currently he ranks 23rd with a salary of $1.55 million.

  16. ok, my question to you is as an example, would the money that ohio state made this year because evan turner was on the team be any less if evan turner was in the nba? to help you along, ohio state has had an average attendance figure every year over the last 5 years between 15 and 17k. i.e. that star player didnt mean a thing.

Evan Turner is in his third year with Ohio State and I was speaking of "one and done" players and the money the universities and ncaa make off of them. But you got me thinking and helped me in my argument. Your numbers are a little off though. The Buckeyes averaged 13,411 fans per game this season with junior Evan Turner as their star, which is more than 4,100 fewer fans than Ohio State averaged during its run to the Final Four three seasons ago. These are significant numbers which show there was more of an interest in the team a few years back. The difference between this year's team and the team that went to the Final Four 3 years ago was that the Final Four team had 2 "one and done" players on that team (Conley, Oden). Those attendance numbers just show that the "one and done" players do make an impact, as they are showcased by their teams (and the NCAA in the tournament) to bring in more people, more viewers and more money.
