  1. JJU:

Until this post, I thought you were one of the most consistent, reliable, sensible posters on this nutboard. Salt of the Earth.

    But, WTF?

High tech aluminum plutonium bats make a farce of the game.

    Have you watched this sh*t?

Guys are jammed, hit the ball to the opposite field for a triple against the wall.

Gio could hit .420 these days.

Like making the hoop in basketball 8" wider.

Sorry to let you down MB. I never said I was for the use of these bats or that I am against the use of wood bats, hell I play in a wood bat league myself. I just think that the use of these juiced bats levels the playing field a bit for the teams, which is true. Using wood bats would definetly show which teams are the elite teams out there. Honestly, I think they should start using wood bats when these kids play in high school, but that will never happen.

  2. Considering the expansion is all about money and it would cost them to move the leases they already have in place with the 8 first round hosts, the NCAA will have no incentive to expand the field.

It just depends how long it takes to ink the tv deal, once they decide to opt out. The cost of moving things around to them is chump change. There incentive to expand the field is money. If they opt out of their $6 billion deal with CBS, then Fox and ESPN will be bidding billions of dollars on a new deal with the NCAA that will involve a tournament of 96 teams.

  3. This may come as a shock to you, but the facilities the NCAA uses also host other events. So it is possible, if not likely, other events have already been booked where the NCAA would be trying to play the games in 2011.

I am shocked! How long have they been doing this? What will the NCAA do? What they will do is find venues to play the games if they expand next season. This isn't sociology, figure it out.

  4. I don't see the 96 team field for 2010-2011 as they don't have the facilities reserved. Maybe in a couple of years.

Why would they have the facilities reserved if they haven't even made the decision yet whether they will be expanding next season or 2014? When the decision is made at the end of this month, and it looks like it is leaning towards expansion next season, they will be able to get the facilities locked up.

  5. High tech aluminum / plutonium bats should be banned.

    Wood bats ONLY.

These bats actually level the playing field a bit. With wood bats I believe that the gap between the great and decent teams widens. SLU would have still got the snot kicked out of them with wood bats and may have looked even worse. 32 runs but only 4 homeruns. It's not like every hitter was up there hitting the ball over the fence. Arkansas can straight up hit.

  6. Do we have enough rebounding? We were outrebounded 2 rpg. Xavier outrebounded their opponents by 5 rpg. Is Loe a good rebounder or is he more of a finesse player? Cody will have to improve his rebounding. We need more rebounding out of the 3 position. Xavier had Love and McLean (7 rpg) as good rebounder. We really only have Willie. We need a second rebounder to emerge.

Free throw shooting needs to improve. We shot 61 %... our opponents shot 68%. I would take that type of improvement. Willie is the obvious culprit, but Kyle and Cody each shot 63%. They need to be better than that.

Is our 3-point shooting good enough? We shot 32%. As a point of comparison, Xavier shot 38%. I think we have the shooters to be better. A couple of long droughts by Christian and Cody hurt the percentage. I think they will be better and I don't exect Christian to take as many attempts. Getting to 35 or 36% is a good goal.

If you could add one type of player to this roster, who would it be? A rebounding power forward? An athletic 3? Unlike years past, we don't appear to have many glaring weaknesses. I still think an athletic, slashing, scoring 3 would be our biggest need. I don't see a true 3 on the roster. Christian and Femi? More like guards? Cody? Not yet, more like a 4. Jon Smith? Unless there is some dramatic improvement, not a scorer. Evans? Maybe, but I am not expecting him to be able to fill that role consistently as a freshman.

Rebounding is about getting position and our guys had a tough time with that due to their lack of strength/size. We just need to have these guys hit the weights hard and not allow themselves to get pushed around as much next season. I think we will see a big improvement with rebounding next season if the team comes out stronger.

Free throws need to improve somehow. I can work with these guys on their form and technique if they need me to but I still have not gotten the call. Something here needs to change.

3 point shooting will be fine next season.

  7. The sociolgy major thing is false.

Some myth you heard second hand, you liked what you heard, but it is not accurate.

We have been over this before, Broy.

I have a recent former Duke varsity athlete, now in law school, that would like to debate you in public over this claim of yours.

At Humphries, maybe, invite some of the loons from this board.

We will tape it and put it on YouTube.

    Wagering will be allowed.

    He will bring facts.

    What will you bring?

There's only one way to settle this.....

  8. did he play ball professionally this year; anyone have any stats on how he did? strange thing his talents could have been used this year-a slasher who

could rebound and defend the opponent's small forward-another 10-15 poionts and 6 to 8 rebounds from a guy who could go 30 plus minutes would have helped.

I thought TL was playing somewhere in South America

  9. As long as he doesn't do a Tommie Liddell the third and stop going to classes and forget to graduate.

TL's problem was too much time at the craps tables. I saw him at the casinos all the time. I'm guessing that played a part in his senior year motivation, or lack there of.

  10. Didn't IV test these waters? and doesn't that mean you get to practice against some really good bigs?

I am all for Willie getting himself up to NBA quallity. As long as he doesn't do a Tommie Liddell the third and stop going to classes and forget to graduate. Basketball is a good way to go for 10 or 15 years but you need a degree if you want to stay in it as a business; Willie is well spoken and I would hate to see him buy a degree at Lindenwood like our other sportscasters just to get a job on TV although I have to say i would rather listen to

Willie than Ron Jacober, Rene Knott, or Randy Karriker or Martin Gilcoyne.

No more posting while drunk, please 68.

  11. He needs it less than most others... he is very strong for a freshman.

Conklin needs to work on hand / grip strength, he has strong body but gets stripped too often.

Remekun might need it less than others but that doesn't mean CR wouldn't be able to put on more than the others. I do agree with you that Smith, Ellis and Reed, need it more. I am not sure that I agree that Conklin gets stripped too often. He just needs to work on his touch inside and maybe develop a mid range shot.

  12. SLU_Billikens

Good news for @SLUMensSoccer as Sito Sasieta (Chaminade) inked NLI today. He's be a Billiken, and you'll see him in action this fall!

Don't know much about this kid...would any of you posters provide some insight? Pistol?

Great player, Great student, Great person. At Chaminade's year end soccer banquet, Coach "Vader" Gauvain called him the best player he has ever coached. That's saying a lot with the talent that Gauvain has coached over the years, at every level in this sport. You can expect big things from this kid.

  13. I heard a rumor that Willie told RickMa over the weekend that he will be declaring for the draft this year. This would obviously not be a big deal because he could withdraw his name by May 8 after the NBA workouts with no repercussions. However, I have also heard from some people around campus that Willie was saying how he would definitely be going pro after next year. Obviously I have nothing but love for the Reed Monster, just the thought that he thinks he's for sure going to bounce early is ridiculous and needs to be squashed...he needs to focus on getting us to the NCAA's first before thoughts of NBA grandeur cloud his head too much. Perhaps Willie needs to work a little harder than he thinks, as it seems to me that he believes his lottery ticket has already been punched for some reason. Crazy 2011 mock drafts from sites like nbadraft.net that were previously predicting Willie going #19 overall but now do not have him listed at all do not help in this slight ego check.

Willie will be here all 4 years unless he goes through some huge physical changes this offseason. I would not consider any of the Billikens future NBA players at this point. I don't see it, but maybe next year I will see it differently.

  14. Third, why increase the risk of an injury to one of our guys we saw what happened in just a few games in the CBI, the last thing we need is a few bad early season losses to completely wreck our post season chances. A dunk contest would be cool but a scrimmage will never happen, stupid injuries can occur in any environment ie. Sammy Sosa, Martin Gramatica, Carlos Zumaya... the list goes on. Turning an ankle or some "smaller" injury could cost us games.

The CBI was overall a good experience for the young Bills. Sure JJ got hurt but you can't discount the experience of a post season tournament and an extended season. I'm pretty sure there is a greater chance of seeing a scrimmage than a dunk contest. The scrimmage would be just another practice and of course injuries could happen, but in my opinion the reason for not scrimmaging wouldn't be the risk of possible injuries.

  15. I disagree completely. Ohio St. basically starts 4 guards. Michigan St's go-to lineup is smaller than its starting lineup. Tenesee is long, but aside from Williams they are not bangers. If anything would get us it would be these teams' athleticism.

So you believe the size/strength of our team is right on par with the top teams in basketball and there is no need to hit the weights? Tennessee is a long team, but they are bangers and that is how they ended up beating OSU. There were big guys on all the teams but really noticed them in the OSU/UT game. You are right that they are athletic, and both of these teams would have embarrassed us inside with their size and athleticism. (UT-6'10" 278, UT-6'9" 246, OSU-6'8" 255, OSU-6'9" 240 combined for 107 minutes in that game) Either of these teams would have physically beat us down.

  16. I hope you're joking here lol. I don't care who's making the pass or who's catching it, if it's on point and the guy gets his hands on it, 99% of the time it falls on him if he doesn't.

Now I'm not comparing JJ or any of our players to Steve Nash but imagine blaming a dropped pass on him, I just don't see it.

In the NBA all players are elite and are expected to make those plays. It would be nice to expect Conklin to make those plays, but this is not the NBA (even though I once heard a guy, "Jerry Garcia", sitting behind me at Chaifetz tell his friend that Conklin was going to be a great NBA player)and Conklin has hands of stone.

  17. If DP had JJ's jump shot he would have been a great player. Likewise, if JJ can take care of the ball and defend like DP, he'll find minutes.

I wouldn't call JJ's shot a "jump shot". He gets about 1.5 inches off the floor when he shoots the ball.
