  1. I believe recruiting guru, Brick Oettinger, invented the term mid-major. He was writing for what's now known as the ACC Sports Journal, then called the PooP Sheet, and covered recruiting extensively in the 70s and 80s. As a way to distinguish among the quality of recruits he invented the term "mid-major" to describe players he viewed as a two rungs below the "blue-chippers" and the "difference-makers" at the highest level.

After a few years of using this designation, Dickie V and the hoop talkers of the day, began describing programs in terms of whether they were high major or mid-major. I knew Brick from my days living in Chapel Hill, and while he was a pioneer in the analysis of high school talent, I never liked how his term began to describe programs.

Some quick examples of teams who were viewed as terrific with no thought of being called "mid-major" were the '63 Loyola-Chicago Ramblers, the late '60s Dayton teams, the Bob Lanier led St. Bonnie teams, and the excellent teams from Houston and Charlotte in the 60s and 70s to name a few. No one thought of them as mid-majors and I liked it better that way.

    This is a ridiculous take.

The training staff were very likely taking medical precautions. The trainers and strength coaches are the only part of SLU athletics I have 100% confidence in. He was tweeting about the game from the locker room, clearly watching it, you don't think he wanted to be out there? Trainers were likely icing it and putting supports on. The quicker they can get the swelling under control, the faster it heals. You don't have to be a SLU PT grad to know that.

As a PT, I can tell you that I'm always surprised how many players roll an ankle then come sit on the bench even though they can't play. That's the worst thing you can do. Using ice, compression, elevation, and possibly some early electrical stimulation to move the swelling out of the area is the best course of action. It's amazing how much swelling can be controlled in the first two hours after injury if these steps are taken. Hopefully, our training staff was providing JG the right kind of treatment instead of what looks to me like the careless treatment that some players receive.

If we plays like he did tonight every game than he should switch minutes with Hines

Was saying that DJ would start in JJ's place, but yes, more mins. for DJ would mean less for Hines. Funny thing about Hines, he'll drive the lane make a circus shot like he did tonight, hit a jumper to keep a rally going, but he looks for his shot too much, and despite what look like good mechanics just isn't a reliable shooter.

  4. "We've debated the last two days whether we should start D.J. to help him build his confidence. I'm going to play you early and leave you in there. DJ was not to be taken out of the game. Coaches were too remind me not to take him out. We don't win this one without D.J. He'll be playing a lot more."

  5. Ref had his feelings hurt. Travis was clapping for the good call and the ref must have thought he was being sarcastic. Been there myself. Was arguing with a ref once and shortly after, the clipboard I was holding slipped out of my hands and clanged on the floor. He turned around and t'd me up assuming I had thrown it down.

Spiders injecting venom into Billikens with paralyzing defense. I don’t even know why I’m watching. Bess looks like he’s lost. French with the pass to no one. Awesome.

Three turnovers when each player was in position to shoot. Be a little selfish guys... everyone but Hines.
