  1. Well, it must be hedged a little by the fact that MSU has a very large contingency of students from Stl, and KC, so a large percentage of them went home. So, we had a pretty pedestrian crowd. About 6,400 or so. I'd say about 750 to 1,000 fans showed up for SLU, and they were a pretty good representative for your school. I sat in the student section, but without many students showing up for the game, they sold many of the tickets to SLU fans. The students of yours were stuck up in the bleachers of course, and they had good cheers, which were positive instead of bashing the other team etc. I was pretty impressed. I love our student groups (being a grad student myself), and they generally have improved by leaps and bounds over the past six to seven years that I've been here (I should be a doctor by now lol). With that said, they need to be a little better with the "Hey, you suck chants." Also, Marty Prather is in the MO Sports Hall of Fame as a contributor to Missouri Sports, and does a great job with the signs, but he must have taken last year's loss a little to heart because his signs were really bashing the opponent more than usual. Normally, he makes signs that only accentuate our teams players, and leaves the other players alone (or maybe makes a little joke if they've done something funny recently). But, the jokes about Mr. Majerus' weight is a little uncalled for, and the getting onto the school for not being able to operate a clock etc. could be avoided in my humble opinion. PS- To Roy, I'd like to say hopefully we can agree to disagree on our petty argument earlier, it is to be expected that a fan of a particular school is going to focus on the missed chances by his own team and see that as a chance to win the game etc. As a fan of the Bears, I focused mainly on the chances they missed as well, and saw the potential for a large margin of victory, while ignoring the fact that many Bears shot better than their norms, and I imagine a few Bills players could probably play better than they did Wednesday night. Good luck Bills!
  2. In a year that is wide open in the Valley, I'd say that both conferences are pretty similar. As a MVC team fan, I'm going to be biased, but I don't think >>>>A10 can be justified. PS- I'd wager just about anything that SLU doesn't finish 7th in the A10 this year. I'd say they'll finish 3rd honestly.
  3. You're right, it was a win for you. A very painful loss for us due to the cirumstances, but a win nonetheless. How's your arena coming along? I hear it is going to be quite nice and with MSU also opening up a new arena, it should up even more recruiting areas for both schools, and improve the quality of basketball for both schools.
  4. I understand where you're coming from, and yes it technically goes as a win for you. A clock malfunction is a little different than what you deem as a bad call through fans eyes. You'd be shocked at the overall accuracy rate of an official when you break it down on tape. Winning a game on an illegal tip in is a different scenario for me. No matter though, I put it on the Bears coaches as there is no way they should have been in that position up 13 with less than 5 minutes to go. Don't milk, keep attacking (and make some FT's), and they win easily. Fine 7-2, and I believe 14-6 overall if you would like.
  5. Makes sense. I have to remember that posters here will have the same bias toward their school that I have towards mine. Get a little depth on this team and you can be very dangerous.
  6. You attacked with your last sentence in your previous post. You don't like the fact that an MSU fan can actually trump your comeback. I'd say you brought the argument. Good luck the rest of the season, you've got a great coach who will take you some great places one day IMO. Willie Reed is a big time get for you guys BTW, congrats!
  7. Yet still beat you for the 7th time in 9 tries (truly 8 out of 9). That sucks for you. I came onto this board admiring your players, saying how it would be a good win for my team, and saying your team will be better in the future. Yet, you won't give any credit to a team that has done a pretty good job beating you consistently over the past two decades. Nowhere before you started being how you're being, have I tried to convert anyone into thinking anything about MSU. For some reason, you have gotten really defensive and petty for someone who is as respected as you are, I would have expected better. Merry Christmas to you as well. Despite your actions, I still wish your team the very best this year as I respect your players and coaches.
  8. You're bing petty and making stuff up Roy. Not sure why, but it is what it is. I'll pull up the game log if I have to, but you were never within three with the ball since about the 13 minute mark of the first half, were down double figures a majority of the game, your own coach stated that MSU was a "Bigger, deeper, more versatile, more aggressive" than SLU. I'd say other than that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln. Lisch was pulling shots out of his behind down TEN with less than three minutes to go, and you didn't even SEE the game (admittedly) and you can say they passed up open shots? I repeat, I was in the second row behind your bench, and you were not passing up "open" shots. That's laughable. I will repeat this for you to comprehend, you never had the ball down three in the entire second half. Heck, you never even got it to within three in the entire second half until 5.2 seconds to go. Show some class in a loss Roy. If you would like to follow how the scoring went down, here is a link to the game thread. As you can see, down 9 with 47 seconds to go, and never within three with the ball. http://users.boardnation.com/~letsgobears2...d=336;start=240
  9. You never had the ball down one possession the entire second half. Not one single time Roy. I repeat, not one single time did you have the ball down only one possession. 6 was as close as it got until Lisch hit three 3's that he won't hit 30% of the time. I know you're frustrated, and I know you want to win every game (especially against MSU), but if you were at the game, you'd have seen that right now MSU is the better team. Give SLU some more depth, and a PG, and that field will even very quickly though.
  10. I've long respected your posting Roy, but listening to the game on the radio and thinking you should have won is off base. You got to one possession with 5.2 seconds left, that was it. That game was double figures for the majority, and I don't believe SLU led for a second of it. Lisch was hitting step back three's with guys in his face at the end of the game. The type of three's he will hit less than 30% of the time to even make it close. If he doesn't do that, this is a double figure game even with the missed free throws. I know you love SLU like I love MSU, but in this case, what you say just isn't so. Perhaps your case is that Lisch passed up shots earlier in the game, he did shoot quite a bit by the way, and they weren't really going in. What really kept you in the game more than the late three's from Lisch was Luke Meyer. That kid can play on my team anytime. You'll have a good team this year, and maybe you'll even feel they're better than MSU, but for one evening in November, that was not a game you "should have won."
  11. Coming out os HS, people were incensed that Polk didn't win Mr. Missouri. I'd seen him play many times and he was very impressive for Vashon. Quick as a blur. I was even at the voting for Mr. Missouri at the MO Sports Hall of Fame and it went back and forth quite a bit between the two players. I honestly expected more out of Polk. Justin Fury, the guy who went against him almost exclusively Wed. is a guy most on our team felt should be playing very few minutes, but has really improved this year. I was worried and thought Polk would eat his lunch, but Polk didn't do much against himme. The question about his defense was askedL He did have one steal where he absolutely just took the ball away from Spencer Laurie, and he played solid pressure defense as our PG would bring the ball up, but he allowed us to get entry passes due to his limited size, and he wasn't as quick as I remember. Has he had any injuries to speak of?
  12. As your coach said after the game, "They're bigger, more experienced, have more depth, are more verstaile and were more aggressive." Add to this, it's 7-2 in last 9 (really 8-1 ;p) between the teams and something like 6 in a row at Hammons, and I'm surprised every fan thought it would be a win. If Lisch doesn't make some insane shots at the end, it's double figures even with the terrible FT shooting. He's very good by the way. Good luck the rest of the year, I'll be rooting for ya to win as many as possible. I think you'll be a pretty good team at the end of the year, and the first paragrpah was not smack, it's just a little insight into your own coach's feelings about the two teams. Meaning: You're not quite there yet, but you should be soon.
