  1. Hardball, I guess Tommie and Kevin don't count in your view. If Ian is other schools leftovers or somebody nobody else wanted I will take that every time.

Who exactly have we passed on that turned way better than what we have offered. Blake and Tatum were mistakes, but lets be honest Blake would be getting nothing more than 15-20 mpg in the the upcoming season. Just because a player chooses another school doesn't mean we didn't offer.

I would have liked to have landed Stremler. Stremler is not the second coming of Larry Bird. He is a nice player. Sampson did a hell of a job locking him in a short anount of time. I guess Crean is just as bad as Brad for losing him at the last minute.

Hardball, we are not a top 20 team. We have not been a top twenty program since the sixties.

  2. Wow phan, you asked the ultimate St. Louis loser question. Where did you go to high school? The question losers ask because high school was the best part of his or her life. You know the guy phan. The kind of guy that uses a quote over a decade old to put someone else down. Wow, use a line from a SNL fake commercial. What a great way to rip on someone older than me. He thinks that makes him cool, hip, and funny. It really just makes him look sad and outdated. Boy, you and McKernan do have alot in common.

  3. I don't want to rag on Blake, but any mag that list him as the 4th best sg has no validity at all. You can not tke anything in that magizine seriously. At the end of last season, Lisch was already a better all around player than Blake. Kevin doesn't belong in a list of the top five sg, yet.

  4. He actually turned out to be pretty smart. He ended up graduating from Marquette with a gpa above 3.0. Took the LSAT and got acceptted to law school. He now runs a youth ministry at Cabrini Green.

Roy, I think you are a good poster. But, it is a little scary how you are willing to call so many inner-city kids dumb. You seem to do this with no clue to the actual facts.

  5. It may sound incredible, but I think they are getting it right. If they believe we are an at large team, we will have to be inside the top 50. Nice to see a national source pay attention to last year and give the Bills a little love. So use to getting ignored even when we have had good teams going into the season.

  6. If you have seen the movie a million times then you should recall the scenes of Gates blowing off his studies. I don't see how anybody involved with the administration or alumni of St. Joes could feel very good about the school after the movie. The school and the coach both come off terribly. They come off as just using two young kids from bad situations. Say what you want to about college coaches, but at least they are dealing with 18 yo for the most part. These two kids were being used from the begining of the movie, when they were in eigth grade.

  7. I am 33. She has already got committments from players(Lisch) that are rated higher than anyone I can remember the woman's program getting. She is getting visits from quality players out of the area that SLU has struggled in the past to get. She is going head to toe with Pat Summitt for one of the best players ever to come out of area.

Recruiting is always a crap shoot. But, she has given more reason than any coach to be excited about the womens team.

The womens team has been an even worse mess than the mens team was when Grawer took over.

  8. Dan is not even close to being the best coach in the department. While he is a good recruiter he is not the even the second best recruiter in the department. The top two recruiters in the department are clearly Shimmy and Champion.

As for Donnigan overall, his tenure can best be described as a disater. He has taken a program that was a consistent top ten program, that has a soccer history similar to UCLA's in basketball, and turned it into a team that is now not even a tournament qualifier. All while having maybe the best on campus facility in the country. He should have been gone after last season.

His tenure at SLU is the soocer version of Matt Dougherty tenure as b-ball coach at UNC.

  9. My family has had our season tickets for over thirty years. I have been going since I was three. We know the deal. Everybody else should too. It's the way it is run now. It the way these places get built. The funny thing is that it is not alot of money to become part of the Billiken Club. You also don't have to have a membership for every ticket you have. I really dont think the are asking too much.

  10. It seems like they are really missing an chance to raise some money here. If they would send an inite to every season ticket holder, it would give them a chance to hit them up for a donation. I know they want to reward those of us that give money, but there are other ways to do that.

This would give them a chance to show the skeptics some progress. It would give them a chance to talk to a bunch a Billiken fans when they are feeling good about the program. It would be a chance to raise money at event that is already going, thus no or limited overhead.

Between invites and the way they seem to be dealing with this with the media, they are missing some opportunities. I think they are really just blowing it here.

  11. Right on Diddy. I am sick and tired for all of the love on this board all the MVC schools, SIU and MSU in paticular. Im glad that MSU din't make the tournament last year. I am glad that an assistant at SIU has been discovered to be among the guilty at Barton CC. I hope the NCAA wants to take a look at SIU and see if anything else is going on there. People these teams are the enemy. They recruit the same players that we do. They should be hated just as much as Mizzou, if not more.

  12. Hardball, this is something you and I agree on. I think DP's abilty to hit his jumper might be the one of the biggest keys to the season. I believe his inability to hit at all from the outside cost us a NIT bid at the minimum last year.

A thing I think might have affected his shot is the speed of the game. It is so much faster at this level than high school. Dwayne was so use to playing the game at such higher speed than his peers in high school. Even though he is one of the faster players that I have ever seen at SLU, I think it took him out of his comfort zone. That along with the size at this level.

Some one pointed it out earlier, but it is a point that I think can't be repeated enough. The jump that players traditionally make in their playing level in their junoir season. I think this will really show in his game this year, with his familarity with the play on the d-1 level.

  13. Not that far apart? When has SLU ever been to the NCAA tournament 4 out 5 years? Never. When has SLU ever been to the sweet sixteen? Never. That was 92-93 thru 96-97 season. that was pre-Wade.

The numbers of wins are skewed because this list begins during the Bob Dukiet era at MU. One of the worst head coaching hires anywhere in the 80s. It then took Kevin O'Neill a couple a years to clean up that mess. Take the first three years out of that list or add the rest of the 80s in it is not even close.

Roy and FGWL you are wrong about this.
