  1. Besides getting hurt, I also heard Douglass wasn't getting playing time because the coaches were disappointed in his work ethic. I'm pretty sure that was said on one of the earlier Dayton telecasts this season.
  2. Eckerle is gaining a lot more interest from D-1 teams. He needs a good offseason to earn a scholarship somewhere, though. As for Moosman, I think the story on him is he committed a bit too soon. He wasn't getting many offers last year and jumped at the Miami-Ohio deal. But he really worked hard in the offseason to get a lot stronger and improve his shot, as you all can see. He probably had a chance to land at a bigger school after his huge season. To his credit, he is sticking with his commitment.
  3. I think we need to keep things in perspective. I was a big Lorenzo Romar fan and we now see what a great coach he is with what he has done in Washington. But he didn't exactly have this program heading towards greatness. He did take us to one NCAA tournament appearance in three years, but that was the only postseason appearance he made in his time with the team. I don’t remember anyone trying to run him out of town at any point during his tenure. I just think we need to calm down after a rough stretch of games and take a step back and look at our history. I don’t want to settle for mediocrity, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. And we don't want to settle for the NIT, but if we get in this year, that gives us three postseason appearances in four years. And Romar was seven games over .500 his time with the team while Soderberg is a game under .500 - those numbers aren't too far off. I think my point is, as mentioned, that it is going to take some time for this program to get to the next level on a consistent basis. We are headed in the right direction, though, and I remain upbeat about our future with Soderberg as our coach.
  4. I don't think it was entirely the offensive sets we ran today that cost us the game. We missed a lot of layups and point blank shots down low. The offense wasn't running like it was earlier in the season, but we could have been in that game early if we got some easy looks or open shots to fall down. If you don't hit open shots, you aren't going to win - no matter what offense is being run. The offense was a mess later in the game, but that was after things were pretty much out of hand. As for the defense, that wasn't terrible. We held them to less than 40 percent shooting and fewer than 60 points. If you do that most nights, you will win. But again, the offense didn't show up, which cost us the game.
  5. It is amazing to me to hear so many jump off the bandwagon so quick. You have to look at the entire body of work and not just one or a three-game stretch. This team played better than about everyone expected this season and return a great core of very talented players for next season. We should be excited about the future - not trying to run the coach out of town after a bad stretch of games. Much like the telecast - I think the Billikens got tired here at the end of the season. Remember, a lot of freshmen played huge minutes all season long. I'm not trying to make excuses for the team, but college basketball is an adjustment. A good offseason of work should make for a stronger finish to next season. I think everyone needs to just chill out - you could be rooting for Mizzou.
  6. Suggs is getting recruited heavily by the Illini. I know Suggs sat behind their bench a few weeks back at a game. And Weber has been out to some of his games and practices. You have to remember that Suggs is just a sophomore. He has a lot of room to grow and improve his game.
  7. This was in a story posted on Sportsline by Gregg Doyel: Genius: Saint Louis coach Brad Soderberg. The Billikens, who went from Conference USA to the Atlantic-10 as an expansion afterthought, beat Charlotte to tie the more talented 49ers for second place in the A-10. Too bad the A-10 is a one-bid league: Right. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9269995
