I was going to predict a real high score for SLU tonight (80s), but seeing as how it looks like most players will get minutes tonight, and it'll be their first test with a new offensive style - I'm going with SLU 74 - UMSL 56. I know it's only a 18 point margin, but I find that to be probably pretty accurate given the circumstances.

I'd like to see 8 players have at least 5 points, 4 in double figures.
No more than 6 offensive rebounds allowed.
Noone with 4 fouls - 5 spot especially.

Got a friendly "goal" along w/ a buddy for SLU to win by 25 or 30 (can't remember which). If this goal is achieved, we go to the East Side® for roast beef and pound cake. I predict 86-59.
Anyone remember what the score was last year? Also, ladies by 24. 81-57.
The ladies scoring 81 would be a miracle.

PS Steve, are we going to have the prediction grid this year? I liked seeing everyones guesses for the season. I understand thats a task though.

Am I crazy or has there always been a 12 day layoff before conference play (around the new year)? I remember having about a week or so off, but 12 days?....that'll be tough to come off that hangover with GW on the road.

Did anybody else notice after Papelbon struck out the last victim of the Rockies that Jason Varitek ever so slyly put the ball into his back pocket? I'm curious to hear if they said anything about why he did that - especially after the controversies in recent years as to who 'owns' the ball. Some people even try to get money from the team, owner, HOF to give up the ball. Let me know if you heard anything - or if you have any good conspiracy theories to Mr. Variteks actions.

There's gotta be somebody on the message board thats either a student manager or at least someone who is close with a player who can give a recap, yeah?
It'd probably be a conflict of interest to expect TDELL to post, which I wouldn't expect (or condone).
Let's just hope they get some good experience.

No I didn't hear when the show will start. The lead in they gave ("coming soon") made it sound like it will be either first week of season or week before. I wouldn't doubt if (or I hope) they have a season preview show with the coaches.

Heard on Frank's show today that Majerus will be on Fridays. They are doing all local coaches one day a week:
Anderson, Webber, Hinson, Majerus, and I forgot the other....but yeah definitely Majerus on Fridays - dunno about Mondays.

If you're anything like me, you'll love the book. I also bought it on Amazon a while ago. It got delivered about 11am, and I had it done by 3am. Couldn't put it down.

Nothing to do with Billiken Basketball, but there is an interested stat that occured in the world of baseball tonight.
Slugger Frank Thomas hit 3 homers tonight at Fenway. 2 off Wakefield, one off of a reliever.
The amazing part about this is that the ONLY other time in his career that he hit three homers was 11 years ago not only at Fenway, but all 3 blasts came off Wakefield. If that's not enough, it happened almost exactly 11 years to the date (last being Sept 15 1996). Apparantly the Big Hurt likes to play in Boston in mid-Sept.

I believe this happened in Remember the Titans. As I recall, it worked for them. They won the Championship. We just need to hope that Kevin (Gary Bertiere) doesn't get paralized. Obviously kidding, that is an interesting scenario that I don't see happening, but it would help imo. Keep the guy that recruited them and guided them the first few years.

Source says Majerus is in town, and there will be a press conference scheduled (possibly the one refered to at 1pm tomorrow). I can't confirm time yet, but I was told that all SLU execs were told to be on/stay on campus tomorrow. If this is true, that's golden. To me, that seems pretty solid.
Here's hoping.

My source contacted me last night saying that Majerus was offered the position yesterday. If they can hack out the contract details, he's ours. What a day for us, WHEN I think they'll work this out.
AGAIN, not gospel, but this is the real deal.
PS I'm sure you have questions, but I work on the Sabbath, so probably won't check the board again until mid-afternoon. When I know, you'll know.

Some of you may think my prior post was BS, but it was not. I also heard that Gillen was a frontrunner for the position, but haven't heard much else. If I could give you my source, I would. I'll just say, that I used to work for a local news station in the sports department, and I got the news from a well respected sports reporter. His conversations with TL and KL happened off camera, and I was told not to cite my source. Like I said earlier, DO NOT take this as gospel, but I wouldn't have posted it, had it not come from him. I think we'll see very soon that the talk of TL leaving, and KL waiting to see who the new coach is will be public. Sorry for causing an uproar, I just wanted to keep everyone informed of what I had heard.
My only point was, wouldn't you rather me post something that 'is probably true' then not post it? If we don't want rumors circulating, I will be happy to not update the situation. Either way, this is a sad day in Billikens history, and could not have come at a worse time.
