  1. Nark-

I gave it a try, but no luck. The icon has to be 16 by 16 and just barely over 1k. If I JUST had the billiken logo (without text) no color or anything. I am 1.2k. And PLUS it has to be 16 by 16 so that is very very small.

    Sorry,

    Steve

Also I don't think I know enough about what I am doing to do it. If I find someone who does, I will ask them for some help.

  2. I made a small change to a file that reset the new messages. Basically the old address of the board had something like

    http://207.36.130.25/c.......

    now it is http://www.billikens.com/c.......

Sorry that it reset all of the links and such. Hopefully it won't prove to be too inconvienent.

One way to figure out which messages you have read and haven't, try to remember when you last visited and then pay attention the times by the posts.

  3. hehe, I think Roy is on vacation. I am sure he would give us his opinion on this especially the billiken gear.

I think the problem is selection. How someone can't go into a store like champs or Famous and be able to find a Billiken hat and shirt.

But there have been some problems with the selection. Not enough blue stuff and too much grey or something like that. And the web site not being in stock for extended periods of time.

I don't care too much about the selection (I am fine with what I got). Also, I honestly can't blame the local stores too much. Interest in Billiken basketball declined after Spoon left. My biggest concern is attendance. I would like to get us back to being about 10,000 EVERY GAME. Not just when a big name comes to town.

I am satisfied with Woolard. There are things that have been done that I disagree with. I think our games should be on Fox Midwest and not charter as long as there are as many on. Also the whole KMOX deal should be a little better. But currently I can listen or see almost every billiken game I want if I live in St. Louis. But non charter members are somewhat left out in the cold for many road games.

Things could be better, but they could also be A LOT WORSE.

  4. I just have a question.

What is the history of taking back an offer from a player. Say player X verbals to SLU after being offered. SLU then in October learns another BETTER player is willing to go to SLU if offered, but SLU is out of scholarships. I know it is a rotten thing to do to withdrawl an offer (it messes things up for the kid they offered), but has it been done much in college sports.

I haven't heard of it happening, but I don't follow ALL of college sports very closely, mainly SLU and whatever pertains to SLU. But how uncommon is it to withdrawl an offer.

  5. I would watch it a bit. Last time we started ripping on the name changer. One of our posters had a face to face encounter with the name changer. We mentioned her name then, we haven't yet. But I am just warning ya, I think she reads the board, at least she did 2 years ago.

  6. Everyone-

I have decided to allow for donations to be made to compensate for the expenses of Billikens.com. DONATIONS ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR ANYTHING. By donating you do not recieve any special features, special treatment, or anything else. The donations are simply to reduce the cost on my end of Billikens.com.

Billikens.com will stay online no matter what. So don't fear that Billikens.com is going anywhere. Running Billikens.com is still a great pleasure of mine, and I intend to keep running it for long into the future.

You can donate by check or through PayPal. Please do not mail checks past the 20th. I will be leaving the 26th, and I do not want to chance a check getting here when I am not here. If it does, I may not get the check for weeks.

Full details can be found at http://www.billikens.com/donations/

Your donations would be appreciated, although I want to reiterate that they are completely optional. Also, once $300 are donated, I will shut donations down until next August.

  8. >>It will be alot of work but I think you are up to it steve.

We'll see about that one.. lol. That is a lot of stats to compile. It is quick for more current players since I have all my season stat files in Excel, so I just got to make sure the columns are lined up, then copy and paste. But I only have stats back to 1980 I think. I recently requested more from John Garrison, but he is out of town at the moment. So I will see if I can get those.

As for HS and Juco stats... Umm... maybe not. I will do the current players and work my way back slowly. So let's just see what happens.

If you want the stats from way back to 1980, I got them. You can get to them from a link on the front page.

'No Vacancy' sign still posted on Mountain West doorstep

UNR among six schools interested in joining

    By STEVE CARP

    REVIEW-JOURNAL

To the six schools looking to join the Mountain West Conference, commissioner Craig Thompson has one simple word of advice: patience.

Thompson said the eight-team Mountain West has made no commitment to expand and is no rush to decide whether it will.

"There hasn't been a vote to expand," he said Monday in Las Vegas. "Right now, we have a subcommittee of three people looking into the pros and cons of whether we should even have discussions. We're not going to hear what they have to say until sometime in September.

"We still have four schools without athletic directors and four schools have just hired new presidents. Until we get all of our vacancies filled and everyone on board, there's not going to be any serious expansion talk. If someone wants to be in our league, they'll have to have patience."

Thompson wouldn't say which schools have contacted him, but it is believed UNR, Hawaii, Fresno State, Boise State, Texas Christian and Tulane have expressed interest in joining.

"I think we need to see what happens around the country," Thompson said. "We know the Big East has to expand and they're going to expand at the expense of another Division I-A conference. There'll be some movement in the next 30-60 days, so we're going to follow that closely."

Thompson said if the league opts to expand, it likely won't wait for the NCAA Management Council to decide in April whether the Atlantic Coast Conference can stage a football championship game with fewer than 12 teams. The ACC expanded to 11 by adding Miami and Virginia Tech.

"If we're going to come off (eight members), my guess is it would be before the Management Council decides," Thompson said. "If they say you can have a championship game with 10 or 11 teams, we can always revisit the issue."

But prospective MWC additions might not find it so easy to remain patient because they're facing pressure to make long-term commitments to their current leagues.

UNR athletic director Chris Ault said informal discussions with the Mountain West have been held, but the Western Athletic Conference wants to know the Wolf Pack's athletic intentions.

"Let me put it this way," Ault said. "My immediate concern is with the present. But it's important I have a clear vision of the future."

Nevada legislators and some members of the Board of Regents would like to see UNLV and UNR in the same league, as in the mid-1990s, when both were in the Big West.

Also, Fresno State officials announced the school would no longer accept academic nonqualifiers, hoping to make its standards compatible with the Mountain West. Hawaii is reportedly exploring the feasibility of subsidizing travel for its mainland opponents if it were to be invited to join the MWC.

  10. Yep, I was right, it was included in the majerus bit (Utah is on 3 years probation for a bogus reason IMO)

The mountain west has been contacted by 6 school Tulane, TCU and 4 others.

I don't know what to say about the lack of talk about it, but that is what sportscenter said.

    Steve

  11. It was on the West Coast version of Sportscenter. Not the 10 O'Clock, but the Midnight one. I am going to try to catch one of the repeats (actually I just turned it on, and I think it is somewhat near the time when they said it), we will see. I will post to confirm or correct.

  12. Hey, I never remember hearing about it Nash..Would you like to share what the URL is...

All I have to say is that my first couple of years online. When I was still members.aol.com/SluSignGuy, it was a good day if I got 10 hits. And probably half of those were mine own. The domain name and especially the board have improved this site's visability. I have been very very very lucky. It is tough to get noticed out there on the www.
