  1. I think we can all say that Ross Varner was a different story as far as the division 1 athlete goes. He was just very very intelligent. I believe he double majored in Russian and International Business in addition to playing basketball and maintained a 4.0 gpa. Not many students (and students alone not playing a division 1 sport) could maintain a 4.0 in any major. It is my understanding that Luke Meyer is following the same path except I believe his major is in Accounting. It can be done, but not often is it seen.

  2. He is 6'8" and can hit the 3. I've heard several comparisons to Larry Bird even though that is one of the few NBA legends you don't like to compare players to. As of right now he is averaging 28.5 points per game while shooting 54% from the field and while not exactly eye popping shooting 37% from three. He can handle the ball which makes it difficults to put a bigger person on him and with his size he too big to put drejaj on him. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Newbourne guard him last year? I don't remember exactly, but with the roster we have I would either put him on Morrison or else just throw drejaj on him and see what happens. It really is a toss up, but I'm sure Brad will put the best possible matchup on him. I'd say the way he's playing right now if we hold him under 30 that would be an accomplishment.

  3. Read this article....http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=253442250

"Oh, by the way: Morrison said he called "bank" on his latest money shot. "I had the angle," he said.

This kid is going to be such a matchup problem for us. I really do not have any clue whatsoever who will guard or attempt to guard him. We will see I guess.

  4. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't the final spread for the game like 14 or 15 pts for the game last night? Well with the final score being 75-63 that puts the deficit at 12. I'd say that betters in Vegas are not very happy with our own Vas'Shun Newborne who rattled home a three with 13 seconds left to cut the lead from 75-60 to 75-63, also making those who bet on Carolina winning losing on the spread. Just thought that was kinda funny. Guess you should never bet against an ancient good luck charm huh?

  5. For the first time this year I think we really saw Tommie show a lot of emotion out there. We have heard the comparisons to Tracy McGrady as far as his swagger goes as his play looks effortless and almost lackadaisical at times. But a number of times especially on those shots he made and got fouled you really saw him get fired up. Not that a player has to show emotion because there are plenty of good players that don't necessarily show it, but it was refreshing to see how hard he was playing and how much he wanted to show the world his skill on the national spotlight. That blocked shot on that three had everyone I was watching the game with going absolutely insane! How in the world that one shot he made was not counted with the foul by that one ref is completely beyond me. And then that spin move the guy from north carolina made on JJ who got called for a blocking call then took 3 steps and then shot and they counted was straight up ridiculous. Overall I think Tommie is really starting to come around and it looks like he is now making an effort to take the ball to the hole and finish. I am so excited about the future of this team! Lets keep the morale up and keep the effort high on Saturday again Oakland guys! I definatly think we gained some respect and definately did not embarrass ourselves. Great time to be a billiken fan even with the loss.

  6. I just got out of class and on 590 Randolph and Claiborne were interviewing Roy Williams about the game tomorrow. He actually had some nice things to say especially about Ian. He said he is turning into a very good player. Also talked a little about Tommie and our 4 guard offense which he said might present matchup problems for them. Overall it was a nice interview as it was nice to hear compliments from a coach of that level saying good things about your program. However the only thing I didn't like was Randolph asking Williams to take it easy on the Billikens. I thought that was kind of arrogant and not something a St. Louis media type should do but he is more of a Missouri backer I'd say. I caught the later half so there may or may not have been more said I do not know.

  7. Today on stltoday.com Bernie has a story about the game last night on the front page of the sports section. He admits while he hasn't exactly been the Billikens biggest fan the past few years they are starting to turn the corner and play good basketball. With the blues absolutely terrible this year and the cardinals not playing right now it looks as if SLU is the number one attraction at the moment in St. Louis. Now I know Frank is a SLU guy, but they opened up the pressbox today talking about SLU and what a great win last night was. Frank could not stop raving over KL's play so far this year saying he could be one of the premier defenders around right now as he could not say enough good things about guarding Tatum last night along with DP. Hopefully we can continue rolling Sat night and bring home another win.

On another note are any of you guys going up to Milwaukee Saturday night? I know I along with a buddy and some of the Blue Crew are going. Just curious.

  8. I talked with one of the players last night and he told me how excited the team was about going to Hawaii. Apparently they are making a little trip out of it. They are leaving on Thursday (the game is on Sat) and they are coming back on Monday. That is kinda cool I thought, although it was also said while laughing that it probably depends on how they do in the game as to how much fun it will be there. Hopefully this trip can do the guys some good and really get them together as a team and continue to gel with one another.

  9. If that is indeed true this is very disturbing news. Here we are with our best recruit since Hughes and a team with depth at guard finally and then this potential setback? Lets just hope things aren't as bad as originally thought. I for one will pray for better news!

  10. I said last night I saw him walking around with the players hanging out. Maybe he was just getting checked out today or something. He didn't have anything assisting him as far as walking or anything yesterday. My guess and hope is that he was just at a physicians getting something checked out to be safe. But I really do not have a clue. I apologize for the confusion.

  11. Tommie did not play today and he was not even in attendance. Nothing else new to report. I thought Kevin played the best he has all year and Luke looked really good.

Starting Lineup for Tuesday I believe will consist of:

    DP

    DB

    AD

    VN

    IV

Brad told JJ he could be whatever he wants all he has to do is put forth the effort. That is all I got.

  12. I'm not sure what school he went to, but he was a real small very quick guard from Cardinal Ritter I believe. He along with Terry Evans formed that very good backcourt that won them the state championship didn't it? Also weren't they undefeated that year or am I completely wrong on this? I don't quite remember for sure.

  13. I saw TL last night with a bunch of the other players at the Student Center around 830 or so when they were getting something to eat. He was walking fine and had no crutches or anything of that sort. Hopefully he just collided with someone and it was real sore or something of that nautre. Also not to be ignored freshman Amanda Kemezys on the women's team is hurt as well. She has a walking boot on. At the exhibition game before the guys game against UMSL I thought she looked pretty good out there. Hopefully she will be back soon. Does anyone know anything about that? Finally, there is a woman's game on Monday the 21st at West Pine against Weber State. Lets try and get some support out for the girls and hopefully they can turn the team around from last year.

  14. My girlfriend along with another of my friend's girlfriend both go to Maryville. They are supposedly "horrible." So I don't know how much of a test they will be, but we will find out. But another performance like last week will at least make me feel good even if we are playing against 6'5" centers. Winning big vs small teams is better than losing in the first place. Just ask our team in 2003-2004 when we lost to EA Sports All Stars 54-51. We are scoring and scoring big. We are running and finally look to have depth at the guard position and a dominant big man! I say win big tonite and keep on rollin' baby!

  15. I am not positive but what about the restaurant/bar, Salsaritas, on SLU's campus in the Student Center? Again I am not positive whether they have charter or not, but the dorms do so I would assume they do as well. Get students and alumni and fans there. It would be awesome to fill that place up!

  16. I agree, let E-Man do something similar to the Detroit Piston's announcer. Mason I think his name is? If anyone has ever seen their intro it is great! The way he does Ben Wallace's name is just awesome! But definately keep the lights out until the starting lineup is over with! If we are going to do something like that, dont do it half way do it all the way through and lets go all out!
