  1. If any of you have a chance to go in and see the rec center now that they are done with the renovation I would highly encourage it. Simply put, it is AWESOME! If anyone has seen what space they used to have upstairs as far as weights and cardio equipment you'll understand the need that this renovation was long due. It really is state of the art though, juice bar, over 100 new machines, indoor rock climbing wall, etc. So definately if you are able to go and see it, do it. Fr. Biondi and all who helped plan this need to be commended. Great Job!

  2. As to the 7 footer from Edwardsville, while I admit I have never seen him play before, prior to this year (his senior year) he had never even played a varsity game before. Even if he wasn't very coordinated you'd think they would have let him play just to alter some shots or something. IMO, he would bring nothing that would benefit this team unless we want a lesser skilled Bryce.

  3. If he felt slighted, was it because we came at him late? And if so wasn't IU even later than SLU as far as coming into the recruitment? Apparently this fact didn't hurt IU at all. Sorry Lance, but you can't have it both ways. Man up. If anyone got screwed by not getting Stemler, I'd say it was Marquette as Crean was at a number of his games. I would have rather gotten the super athletic teamate of Stemler at SWIC, Lawrence Blackledge (who Crean did get), whom I think has far more potential than Stemler will ever have.

  4. Drew said, "Here you have a 6'8 shooter who can stroke it from three and WANTS to come to SLU."

Drew when have you ever seen or heard Stemler quoting that he wanted to come to SLU? I know a few guys that are friends with him and he never sounded as if SLU was his dream place. If it was then he'd be here. Yes, we offered him late but we did nonetheless offer. If he "WANTS" to come to SLU then he would have. Plain and simple.

  5. I saw Anthony Mitchell play at Collinsville Tourney in late December. He looked really smooth although I wish I would have seen a more perimeter game as Brooks had him playing mostly inside. He did put up some head turning numbers in the opening game, though, as he had 22pts and 20rebounds.

  6. I know that the Missouri State people were responsible for the game being on tv, but my question is this: do they still have that tv monitor if the game was not being shown on tv? Is that something that they always have, or just when the game is being shown on tv somewhere? Just wondering and if it's only the tv, then thank God for Missouri State communication!

Great day to be a Bills fan!

  7. At 8:30 this morning SLU students were able to get tickets for the Carolina game. I was walking back to my apartment after my final and decided to check in and see how the reaction was. They were lined up out the door! Granted this is Carolina and that is the sole reason for the sudden student interest, its an interest nonetheless.

Great win last night, lets keep it up against Tenn-Martin on Saturday.

  8. I just got back. I stayed for all the games but left at halftime of the vashon game. For the first time in my life (this was my 5th shootout I have attended) I was completely bored and almost looking to leave. The point guard from California didn't even play nor did the two best players for DeMatha and one of the players from Decatur. This event is supposed to be the who's who in high school basketball, this was no where close. Pickett has a writeup on the first page of the program basically saying this will be the last shooutout barring a minor miracle from corporate sponsors and considering the performance of this shootout I don't see any big names stepping forward.

Now that I'm done complaining lets get to some of the individual performances. I had never seen Griffey play so I was really excited. He is long and skinny but definately has some serious skill and athleticism. The hype is for real!

Kramer Soderberg, best performance of the day by far I thought. He finished with 30 points on the day on a variety of finishes. He went to the hoop, hit from deep, and probably shot over 10 free throws. He is really smooth and doesn't get rattled at all.

Other than those two, in my opinion I really didn't think anyone else stood out from the local teams.

The Decatur and DeMatha team had some serious athletes. Decatur just turned into a prep school this year, and they have nine yes nine foreign players on their team. Their big guy from Africa is headed to Iowa. He is a stud, athletic, strong. He'll be a really good player.

Sorry V, Vashon really doesn't look that good. Alton really wasn't playing as well as they can and they looked to be handling them from what I saw. But remember I left at halftime so anything after I can't comment.

Pretty disappointing day though. I hope this thing continues next year. I look forward to it every year, but if it's another repeat of this year, I seriously doubt I'm going to fork over my 50+ dollars next year.

  9. Holding Tommie back??? Wasn't it Brad that completely reformed Tommie's shot, the one in which he is now shooting over 50% from 3 compared to 9.5% last year? Tommie's game has never been about scoring a ton of points. His best asset is his rebounding and getting his team involved, he is just an unselfish kid. Brad has given Tommie the ball since day 1 and let him go. If Tommie wants to score he can and will (see the Wisconsin Milwaulkee game last year.) If he wants that last shot go back to the game last year when he hit that shot with 1.5 seconds to beat UMASS. If anything Brad has strengthened the only thing inhibiting Tommie from making that next step, his shot. So no, I don't think Brad is holding him back.

  10. Not saying that we hide anything. Rather I don't want the good things that occured this weekend hidden with the bad of the A & M game thats all. A 36 point loss, in a game that very well could have put us on the national radar, is something that cannot be overlooked. We had our chance to really prove something and simply put we played awful. I'm just saying that, yes, there were quite obviously some bad moments, but they shouldn't completely overshadow the good that we saw as well.
