  1. I know that the Missouri State people were responsible for the game being on tv, but my question is this: do they still have that tv monitor if the game was not being shown on tv? Is that something that they always have, or just when the game is being shown on tv somewhere? Just wondering and if it's only the tv, then thank God for Missouri State communication!

Great day to be a Bills fan!

  2. At 8:30 this morning SLU students were able to get tickets for the Carolina game. I was walking back to my apartment after my final and decided to check in and see how the reaction was. They were lined up out the door! Granted this is Carolina and that is the sole reason for the sudden student interest, its an interest nonetheless.

Great win last night, lets keep it up against Tenn-Martin on Saturday.

  3. I just got back. I stayed for all the games but left at halftime of the vashon game. For the first time in my life (this was my 5th shootout I have attended) I was completely bored and almost looking to leave. The point guard from California didn't even play nor did the two best players for DeMatha and one of the players from Decatur. This event is supposed to be the who's who in high school basketball, this was no where close. Pickett has a writeup on the first page of the program basically saying this will be the last shooutout barring a minor miracle from corporate sponsors and considering the performance of this shootout I don't see any big names stepping forward.

Now that I'm done complaining lets get to some of the individual performances. I had never seen Griffey play so I was really excited. He is long and skinny but definately has some serious skill and athleticism. The hype is for real!

Kramer Soderberg, best performance of the day by far I thought. He finished with 30 points on the day on a variety of finishes. He went to the hoop, hit from deep, and probably shot over 10 free throws. He is really smooth and doesn't get rattled at all.

Other than those two, in my opinion I really didn't think anyone else stood out from the local teams.

The Decatur and DeMatha team had some serious athletes. Decatur just turned into a prep school this year, and they have nine yes nine foreign players on their team. Their big guy from Africa is headed to Iowa. He is a stud, athletic, strong. He'll be a really good player.

Sorry V, Vashon really doesn't look that good. Alton really wasn't playing as well as they can and they looked to be handling them from what I saw. But remember I left at halftime so anything after I can't comment.

Pretty disappointing day though. I hope this thing continues next year. I look forward to it every year, but if it's another repeat of this year, I seriously doubt I'm going to fork over my 50+ dollars next year.

  4. Holding Tommie back??? Wasn't it Brad that completely reformed Tommie's shot, the one in which he is now shooting over 50% from 3 compared to 9.5% last year? Tommie's game has never been about scoring a ton of points. His best asset is his rebounding and getting his team involved, he is just an unselfish kid. Brad has given Tommie the ball since day 1 and let him go. If Tommie wants to score he can and will (see the Wisconsin Milwaulkee game last year.) If he wants that last shot go back to the game last year when he hit that shot with 1.5 seconds to beat UMASS. If anything Brad has strengthened the only thing inhibiting Tommie from making that next step, his shot. So no, I don't think Brad is holding him back.

  5. Not saying that we hide anything. Rather I don't want the good things that occured this weekend hidden with the bad of the A & M game thats all. A 36 point loss, in a game that very well could have put us on the national radar, is something that cannot be overlooked. We had our chance to really prove something and simply put we played awful. I'm just saying that, yes, there were quite obviously some bad moments, but they shouldn't completely overshadow the good that we saw as well.

  6. I plan on being there, anyone else going? I haven't seen Kramer play since that first summer when Brad was announced as the assistant coach, so I'm really excited (Kramer was in 6th grade at the time playing with the high school kids and holding his own and then some.) I'm a little disappointed though that there are only 6 games, but he did say that 2 teams dropped out last minute so I guess there isn't too much you can do about that. Overall though it looks like a nice set of games.

  7. With regards to getting your ticket with your student id at the game, the policy changed last year. The 2004-2005 season, I, too, was able to just show my id at the Savvis and get my ticket. However, last year they changed policy and you had to get your ticket at West Pine. The same rule is in effect this year as well. Have another student get you a ticket and leave it for you at will call if you can't take all of 1 minute to stop in and show them your id and get your ticket. Pretty simple stuff.

  8. What about the Phoenix Suns doing what they had to when there big guy, Amare Stoudemire went down? What do they do? They insert Boris Diaw, a guard, one who was actually signed to be the backup point guard, and they go to the conference finals in the West. Anyone who has seen the Suns play knows that they run, run, and run some more. We insert Luke into the 4 spot, UNTIL J.J. gets back. When J.J. is healthy again he'll play. Pretty simple. All the meantime the new guys, HD and OI can get some experience. Get them 10-15 minutes here and there. Now if you are advocating we give them 30 a game then you are crazy. Lets let the game fold out and get that first game under everyone's belt.

If Brad is committed to running, and he has shown in practice that he appears to be, then why is all the focus towards the fact we don't have a traditional power forward in the lineup right now? Can't it also be that with having Luke in there we create matchup problems for others teams, forcing them to go small to keep up as well?

  9. Cheeseman,

If you go back and look at my post, I was only stating for the game on Friday. JJ is hurt, we all know that. He is the starting 4 when he is healthy. We can get away with Luke defending at the 4 spot against UMSL, Harris Stowe, and Quincy. Now if we were talking about the Carolina game being tomorrow then yes I'd agree with you, we would need to go in a different direction. The fact of the matter is we are not playing big name teams yet, which suits us good at the current time due to our injuries.

Your inquiries to have Horace or Obi playing big minutes, well lets just say that aren't ready. Horace still isn't 100% confident with the system, which I would say is fairly normal for a true freshman. He's learning and works his tail off in practice, that I will give him.

Obi is getting some mobility back, but he too is still limited as he really does need to lose some weight. He has the potential to get into the starting line up, but as of now he is not there yet physically.

Horace dresses with the blue team (which is considered the top 8 or so)off and on, so Brad likes him and what he brings to the table. I have yet to see Obi dress with them though.

JJ is a vetern who has come up big against some good teams in the past. He had really good games if I remember against Gonzaga and Iowa last year, two of your "when it counts" teams. Yea it would be great if he could play now and things would seem better, but I think he'll be fine as far as being ready to play. Now if you wanna use that excuse for Adam then yes I agree with you. He is a new guy who really looks to have some promise as he's a big body who seems to be fearless.

Let the guys play Friday before you alreday cast this team off the island. Trust me, we'll be fine.

  10. I've probably been to about 5 practices that last two weeks, and its pretty obvious who the starting 5 (for Friday's game) as well as top 8 are.

    Starting 5

    DP

    KL

    TL

    LM

    IV

Coming off the bench (in the order I would predict)

    BH

    DB

    HD

    DM

    OI

    WB (walk on)

    JC (walk on)

    MJ (walk on)

With JJ and AK down a lot of you are down on Luke Meyer being the 5th starter. I realize your concerns/wants, but if you look at how Coach Soderberg runs practices he usually splits the sides up into Bigs and Smalls. Luke practices with the smalls, or guards. The only time he is really playing the "4" is back on defense and Coach has his defense set up in such a way to keep the ball out of the lane or "pack" as he calls it. So if the guys do their jobs I really don't see this as a problem.

Now I agree I would rather have a prototypical 6'8" 230lb guy in there playing the 4, and we have that I think with JJ. He is hurt right now and at the present time there isn't too much we can do about that.

I really see a breakout year for Polk. I know we were told last year that his 3 point shooting looked great in the time leading up to the first games of the year and he never displayed anything close to that, but I'm telling you I have a great feeling about him this year. With us running this year, he can really use his quickness and more than likely he is going to get a couple layups in transition. His quickness really is a thing of beauty though. Comparisons to Marquee in terms of speed I think is fair in his case. But most of all, Polk really has taken the role of one of the leaders on the team. He is vocal and really goes out of the way to help the younger guys when they are having trouble.

I think this year, provided that we don't get any more injuries, could be something truly special. Lets get off to a nice start Friday night, both men's and women's teams.

  11. The Larry Hughes billboard you are referring to is a rotating billboard. I think there are 3 different ads that rotate. Therefore when you drove by, it was probably on a different ad at the time. I have personally only seen the billboard 2 or 3 times I think when I have driven by it.
