First viewing of DM
He did not have a good game.
I can understand not scoring, but he did not guard anyone.
-
realize there are two Hansbourgh boys, the fresh at UNC and the senior at Poplar Bluff on his way to Ole Miss next year
-
I don't recall a game in KC or Lawrence, but could have been.
The STL game was the Roy tactic of taking seniors to their home town or area to play a game, this one for Ryan Robertson.
I think that is a very cool move by a coach.
I also guess that is how we got this series as Hansbourgh will stay for 2 yrs so next yr is his last.
-
said... I dont advocate signing players to fill practice spots. i want players that can contribute. and by contribute, more than vashun newborne, justin johnson or bryce husak do now.
that said, i definitely dont advocate v-time's sign the best player regardless of size and postion theory.
you say so much, but you also said IV was not worth a scholarship his first year.
does it make sense to anyone that some bigs take time to develop??
so taking someone that maybe a practice player their first year or two and turns into a lesser version of IV (as I think he is very good) for two years, I do that every time
the horror, imo, would be that we don't have quality bigs for TL/KL's jr and sr years
-
Vtime, I love your last three words...or a transfer!!!
as if you almost expect a quality player to magically appear on the V's roster that is not currently enrolled there, could that really happen at Vashon?!?!?!?! c'mon
-
sign a four year deal and rotate the Jesuit Bowl so every one gets to "host" their brothers
possible with BC now in the ACC as I don't think you could have two schools from the same conference
Marq,BC,Creighton and SLU???
-
thank you metz, I did enjoy that, a bit too much imagery perhaps
I enjoyed that post more than I expect to enjoy listening to Brent try to pronounce Ian's name
You are looking live at the Dean E Smith Center.....
-
Broy hasn't weighed in on this ....yet
you guys are going into dangerous ground here
-
72, by ideal you mean you would include Ill, but imo there is no chance to get them to come to STL as they already play here once a year??
mine would be somehting like
1-ACC
1-Big 10/12
1-SEC
1-Pac 10/Big East
Gonzaga
Mizzou
SIU
SMS
SEMO
UMKC
1-buy a victory
1-Horizon/MCC

what did I say to cause that response??
I did not name call, stated where I was giving my opinion and tried to ask Doc a couple of questions to I thought civilly debate his point.
-
Doc, you wrote this...This is just a wild guess, but I would think that out of the top area recruits, at least 75% of them are either academically not a good fit for SLU, or else they lack certain elements of character, discipline, and lifestyle to fit in. Probably more than that. And both sides tend to know those things fairly quickly, I believe. Either there is a chemistry, and interest on both sides, or there is not. I bet most of these "highly talented locals" are either not so talented, or not a good fit for SLU, and both sides know it.
what lead you to make this "wild guess"? what % of applicants get accepted to SLU? b/c as I see your post
1 less (the % of applicants that don't get accepted to SLU 'plus' the % "that lack certain elements) equals the % of high school student athletes that are recruitable academically, if a student/athlete does not differ from the rest of their class.
To address the "both sides know fairly quickly" how long did Darren Clarke hang around until he left and why did he leave? my guess is this was not a one-sided situation. how much time has JJ spent in the doghouse? is BH in the doghouse now? why did these 3 get into the program if "both sides know fairly quickly"?? my take is this is about recruitng 17-18-19 year old KIDS and you have an idea, but it is far from an exact science as to who will be successful in all aspects of student/athlete life and when they will be successful.
people mature at different rates in different aspects of life.
-
I am seeing the inconsistency of a young team, but the defensive breakdowns which we rarely saw concern me from a couple fronts-1-our margin for error is not that great that we can afford this to win games and I don't want to lose that mantra that we are tough to play against b/c we defend relentlessly, and 2-will UB revert styles.
I hope, again this is hope, that we find a couple people to regularly make 3's that can also defend (see above) as that will free the inside for IV.
I have been wanting BH to get minutes from at least the middle of Dec last year. It is my opinion BH should get time regardless of the makeup of the other team b/c as of right now, other than perhaps Obi, he is the only big to be here in 2 yrs and what (shudder to think) would happen if IV goes down?? Get BH some minutes in every game.
I hate the term "working the refs", but imo it is a fact of the way the game delevoped that is wrong. I would hope that a quality official would call the game not being influenced by the names on the front or back of the jersey or who is on the sideline. A foul/violation is a foul/violation in the first minute, last minute and everywhere in between. Naive perhaps.
-
I don't get it, this whole "trust" talk sounds like Quinn (I mean Coach Snyder).
-
Broy said "if he couldnt put on the halftime happy face, he should have just went to the lockerroom"
and you would have been silent on UB not showing up for the interview??
-
Torch, I hope you are right that the minutes come for Bryce.
I wanted him to be getting minutes last year, but our 9-21 team couldn't handle that for some reason.
I want BH to get the 10 minutes IV is not playing a game, against every type of opponent, or, and I want to be proven wrong on the court on this one, but I still want to see BH and IV in the game at the same time.
One thing about UB, he can shorten a bench, imo.
-
Radio, imo it should be IV and whatever guard/wings are hot getting the shots.
-
Court, imo you are absolutely correct about it being more than necessary for UB to follow up on this recruiting class.
Hopefully, Maguire (sp?) is step 1, but some bigs that can play better follow or it comes back to not being able to build the program or stock the roster on a consistent basis.
I am hopeful UB and staff can get 'er done.
-
for pointing that out about tucker. (you beat me to it).
and McCants who graduated last year was great, glad he won't be suiting up for them.
-
I played golf with some WI dudes in FLA last winter.
The one guy hated UB as they went to rival high schools.
The other guy was glad UB did not get the full time job at Wisc as he did not like the style UB wanted to play - I think our style last year.
We'll see if UB keeps up the tempo.
Now if we want to get into things we don't agree with in regards UB coaching....
-
is listed as 8pm on their website
we have 7 as does charter
I think theirs is probably correct since they are hosting
-
I apologize for the jinx I caused by starting this thread.
I feel it is my doing that we had to endure that arrogant ass tonight.
If we regularly get him because he lives in town, I will not make it through the season.
How does one become an official associated with a conference?
Couldn't the A10 get his reviews from the coaches from his CUSA days, those have to show he sucks?
If he continues to touch the players can't they clobber him??
-
Gerry Pollard has made the move with SLU to the A10.
He is the only official listed from S ILL or MO that I noticed.
Neither the big 12, big 10, conf usa or mvc listed their officials on their website that I found.
There are a bunch of newbies for 05-06 listed, hope they are good and we get 'em way out here.
Here is the list from the A10.
Get the leather lungs ready!!!!

let's hope that close to home line means real close to home and we (SLU) continue the up tempo not just for him, but for the program at large
-
to put this in context, think Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman in the assembly where Manny the Chauffer escorts him to Chris O'Donnell's table and the principal says "mr whatever, you leave me no choice but to recommend your expulsion because you are a liar and a cover up artist" and Al Pacino goes "but not a snitch"
"but not shooting"
that is not one of the adjustments freshman have to make, because shooting is shooting, if the looks are the same
Why not the MVC?

-someone please explain how Sagarin or RPI has a preseason ranking??
to me there has to be what I will call obvious bias in this because before any game is played Duke is #1 with a score much higher than Praire View A&M and both records are 0-0, you can guess how the season will go, but that is differnet than ranking based on fact
-if we agree there is a bias, the much more important question is, how does or does this bias get worked out as the season progresses?
the reason much more important is b/c post season (NCAA) is based partially on this (RPI)
-so what then, does a conference ranking after 3 weeks of games really mean?
-on the conference front, if we think just being the A10 will get us involved in the next deal when conference reshuffeling happens, I think that is nuts. we better be in the top of the A10 consistently to be able to play in the hand we may want. Just being there is simply not enough in my mind.
