Despite playing a generally solid first half, SLU is down 2-0 at halftime. SLU had 3 good shots and SMU's goalie made 3 very good saves. SMU's first goal came off a corner kick with a bounce going right to a wide open player at point blank range. The second goal came off a SLU defensive giveaway in front of our goal.
Other than the 2 defensive lapses, SLU has looked pretty good so far tonite.

Apparently 2 players are in critical condition, and the rest were treated and released from the hospital.

Upper echelon players are tough to land. I agree with other comments - it's who you do manage to get, not who you don't.

Every team (including SLU) can use a solid rebounder.

I am willing to bet that if you asked Brad and the coaching staff, they would tell you that they are not satisfied with the final days of last season. They might also tell you that they are trying as hard as they can to recruit the best players willing to commit to SLU.
Brad has had personal experience coaching 'big time' in the Big Ten and has not forgotten what it feels like to coach a nationally ranked program and then not asked to continue as head coach. I don't think that negative comments on this message board bother him all that much.

I am happy with the hire. I intended no negative connotation whatsoever. I was just wondering if anybody out there in Billikenland knew enough about Redlands C.C. and Ball State to comment on Jamall's track record there.

We have a new assistant coach, a familiar name. Hopefully Jamall will bring us some new recruiting contacts. Anybody have a handle on his coaching abilities?

If we sign Lance last fall, there would have been a chorus of criticism for signing a player who none of the big schools wanted.
If Lance had been the star then that he has now turned-out to be, then the more glamorous teams would have noticed him months ago.
If Lance really wanted to come to SLU, he would have committed to SLU when he was offered.
If Sampson were the coach at SLU, does anybody think that Lance would turn down Indiana for the chance to become a Billiken?
Brad, go find another good player.

Apparently Justin Dentmon wanted to come to SLU after prep school, and had no idea why SLU stopped recruiting him after Romar left.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing SLU occasionally playing a trapping zone similar to Temple and West Virginia. I don't recall seeing opponents have their pick of open looks against either of those defenses.

Should we have tried a little zone defense last nite? The man-to-man wasn't getting the job done.

We all would like to see more pumped-up students in the seats. Students who can't find the time or the means to get to Savvis are, by definition, not rabid fans. Would you risk delaying the project for several more months/years waiting for more millions in front money to float a slightly larger facility?
The Blue Crew are great, highly visible, and small in number. I am sure there will be plenty of room for them in the new arena.

Brad made the comment post-game Saturday nite that he encourages an up-tempo offense, but that the players are hesitant to do so.
Assuming this is true, I hereby encourage the players to speed-up the offense and push the ball whenever and wherever possible.

Does a guard taking a wide-open shot and throwing up an airball not qualify as a 'boneheaded play'?
If the game plan is not working, why oh why don't we try something different?

Martelli is an experienced coach who has developed a nice program which is consistently successful. Brad admitted post-game that he was outcoached last night.
Having said that, it is easy to be 'outcoached' when your team cannot make a basket.

Shouldn't this prove that Weber is an incompetent failure at recruiting?
