I guess that's why it's easier to recruit if you are a top-echelon school, and an easy tactic for opposing coaches to use against SLU when competing for the same players.
-
I am assuming that Brad would tell recruits about their future teammates, and how the recruit would complement the existing players.
-
As has been stated before, with a solid group of players at every other position, why would a power forward not consider SLU a good opportunity? Hopefully this will convince the PF recruit from Houston to commit.
-
Jim Nantz tonite made several nice statements about St. Louis as a venue for the Final Four. Hopefully we will see a mens Final Four (or at least a few more regionals) in a reasonable time frame.

If his name were Tylercic Hansbroughvedic, and he was from Croatia, he would probably be a projected NBA lottery pick already.

PB's supporting cast played very well last nite. TH by himself probably would not have won the game. Everyone else elevated their game. I don't think too many high school teams could have beaten PB the way they played last night.

Is it something about SLU that prevents a guy like Romar from landing top echelon recruits in significant numbers? Why is it considered 'overreaching' to pursue bigtime players when he is a SLU coach, but not overreaching when he moves to UW?
-
Great job by Lorenzo! I wonder how many SLU fans still think he can't recruit?
-
There are plenty of big-time basketball programs who recruit talent from rural areas. SLU has not managed to do that in any meaningful way.
-
I guess everyone will conclude that Tom Crean can't recruit and can't coach, based on the way MU finished this year.

The Athletic department does not find cures for cancer. What a high-powered athletic department can do is to create enough energy at a school to attract students (and their wealthy parents) and maintain their interest in the University with the ultimate goal of long-term financial support for the University.

What was the deal with the 1and1 free throw that Memphis had late in the game, when the other nine players on the court thought that the shooter had two shots and nobody even blinked when the shooter got his own rebound and made an uncontested layup? Did the referees not clearly indicate that it was a 1and1 situation?
Fortunately, SLU made enough free throws to overcome that little lapse in concentration.

Great win at home. IO was excellent. IV played tough, was a factor whenever he was in the game. DB showed athleticism and was money from the free-throw line down the stretch - lots of poise for a freshman. LM also looked good.
DP - free throws not falling, definitely needs to work on free throws. Great block in the 2nd half. Handled the press well. AD played a good floor game tonite.
JJ - quality minutes, very tough under the boards with a nice physical presence. RB - where has his shooting touch gone?
This game has to make Brad and the players feel good.

Our underclassmen played hard and could have defeated a highly motivated, veteran UAB team tonite. Games like this will hopefully provide the younger players with some insight into winning close contests against quality opponents.
-
You have to admit, the Louisville websites are pretty flashy with their coverage of the game.

With all the talk about how a move to the A-10 would not allow us to take advantage of natural rivalries in the midwest, why would SLU schedule IUPUFW instead of another MVC team? This would have been a great time to schedule a game against a significant opponent ( I know that every opponent is significant this year for SLU).

The biggest disappointment to me (other than the fact that we are finding ways to lose games rather than win them) is the lack of student body support.
With the exception of our dependable Blue Crew, there is sparse attendance by SLU students. The Band plays their heart out every game. Where are the fraternities and sororities?

Some meniscus tears can heal if repaired. In other cases part of the meniscus needs to be removed. Hopefully, Kevin will recover fully and with rehab will come back strong and pain free.

SLU managed to shoot for a decent percentage and score a substantial number of points last night ( I could not get to the game). Are we a better offensive team when our leading scorer is not available and everyone else feels like they are now responsible for point production?
I have never coached or refereed players over 5 feet tall. However, it seem to me that if a player or a team establishes themselves as the aggressor in a game, the referees will tend to use that level of aggression as a baseline for calling fouls. If SLU is less aggressive, then on those occasions when we do attempt a kamikaze offensive or defensive play the refs will be more likely to call fouls. A guy like Withers (or Maxiel) can get away with maneuvers that less assertive players cannot.

Good luck to Reggie, Brehms, and your family members.

I for one thought AD had emerged as our new secret scoring weapon after his 29 point performance last year. Obviously, not the case.
Most coaches, like most stockbrokers, probably base their strategy on track records and likelihood of success when making their decisions. Brad has stated that he believes in upperclassmen taking charge of a team and getting the majority of playing time. In general, this is a reasonable concept that works for a lot of successful teams. It assumes that players improve from year to year.
I'll bet that RB, IO and TF are less than thrilled with their performance this season. If Brad's use of younger players at the start of the game helps to win games, then so be it.

DP played fairly good defense today on Diener. Diener has a nice sweet shot off the dribble - tough to defend. DP is going to be better at disrupting opposing offensive flow than he is at 1 on 1 defense because of his perpetual height disadvantage.
He elevated his offensive game today and showed leadership - both are significant steps forward for him.
-
Brad has had confidence in his players and the result is a dismal record. I applaud his personnel decision with today's starting lineup.
-
I agree JJ might as well get more minutes. He played a good game today, and is the most muscular big that we have.
I noticed that at one point Reggie was told to play the point and DP played the wing. Could this be an experiment with an eye toward next year when TL plays point, and maybe play both KL and DP together on the wings?

Do you think that Brad can't tell the difference between an excellent player and a mediocre player?
