  1. I think the point Roy is making is that CUSA could form two divisions - one for football and one for basketball only schools by raiding the Big East. The basketball schedule would be awfully unwieldly but better than find ourself in a lessor conference. It is an interesting idea. My only concern is that the Big East teams would have a hard time swallowing being second fiddle int he decision making process.

  2. You are correct on all your points. A 14 or 16 team conference split into 2 divisions make great sense for the Big East. A west division of MU, DePaul, SLU, Xavier, Dayton, and ND would be perfect - imagine having the chance to go to New York for the conference tournament each year. This whole football thing is just plain silly and people need to keep a perspective - plenty of people would be very upset if their bb only school is shafted. My only concern is what do they do with the 5 or 6 Big East remaining football schools?

  3. Agreed. Wetzel did a nice job of covering all the bases. His read on the Big East forming 2 bb conferences is a win win for everybody. The only team he did not talk about was UNC from CUSA. They really do seem to be the odd man out. The good thing about the west and east conferences in the Big East is that for the minor sports, you could play all your games close to home - save money - then meet the others in a end of the year tournament. You could also add a couple of games with the other side just to spice it up. The concept makes great sense.

  4. CUSA actually went down - I am sure SLU helped that to happen. Our attendance was OK but disappointing for what it has been. I hate to bring this up but it is simply too obvious not to - thanks Romar for all you did. Attendance went down every year he was here and last year's situation was the result of how bare the cupboard was from him.

  5. He also said that he wants SLU to be in a position to win a National Championship and unless we are in a high profile conference, then that can not happen. I also was concerned about his comments - not being privy to what Woolard and the other ADs have actually agreed to do. If SLU does not come out of this conference thing in a good conference then I am really worried about the future of the program and to be honest if Brad even stays.

  6. Your position that getting to games in the Big East for minor sports is much closer/easier than in CUSA is not necessarily true. The teams from MU will not go east just once they will have to travel east as many times as they are currently traveling to CUSA games. Costs will at best be the same. However, they loose the Chicago and St. Louis connection. The rest of your points due make some sense.

  7. If the only reason you add Detroit and Butler is to get the Indy and MoTown market then you might be disappointed - there is no reason to expect that either team will be able to compete on a regular basis with better teams. The person who said that the proposed league with those teams in it is not any better than the Valley - is correct. My point exactly. The Valley - been there done that - no need to even consider that avenue. Yes there are good teams in the Valley but none of them have been able to sustain strong programs over time - all have been dependent on the coach they had for a few years. Once the coach moves on the program drops back to the pack. A good conference replaces coaches who move on with equal or better ones so the schools stay on top more consistently. Also, the Valley has plenty of bottom feeders so who wants to get caught up with just another set of bad teams. Roy is right - nothing is wrong with simply adjusting CUSA. Adding Dayton, Xaiver, and even Creighton is fine but you have to drop some of the dogs.

  8. No this is not better than the Valley. Our only hope if CUSA implodes is to stay hooked with Marquette and try to lure Dayton and Xavier to join us with DePaul along with 3 other good teams being left in the cold or who want to upgrade their situation.
