  1. Looks like he has a nice shot and pretty good hops. Perhaps like Evans in that he flew a bit under the radar, but different with his skill set. Looks like Drew will provide more of a perimeter game than Evans. Hopefully a nice complement to DE.

Agreed. Also, this may be the best recruit video we've ever had. Yes, it's a highlight video. But after living on this board for the past 10 years, I don't think i've ever seen a commitment who's video is as diverse as this. Dunks, tre's, blocks, etc. I think this kid could be a playmaker...DE with a better stroke.
  2. Earl Austin had the time of the first few games.

“We are certainly excited about the trip to Canada,” SLU head coach Rick

Majerus said. “A key benefit of the trip is that it provides us with an

opportunity for 10 days of practice. We’re excited to be able to work with

our players, and we feel confident that each and every one of them can

become significantly better during that practice time by virtue of the

individual attention we will be able to devote to them.”

The first of the five exhibition games takes place Monday, Aug. 22, in

Windsor, Ontario, located just across the border from Detroit, Mich. SLU

faces the University of Windsor at 6 p.m. (CT) at the 2,500-seat St. Denis

    Centre on Windsor’s campus.

SLU then heads east to London, Ontario, where it faces the University of

Western Ontario Tuesday, Aug. 23. Game time at Alumni Hall is slated for 6

    p.m. (CT).

Next, the Billikens head east through Ontario to Ottawa for three games

against Carleton University Aug. 25-27. Those games will be played on campus

as well, with times and ticket information to come.

“We will be competing against the Duke of Canadian basketball, Carleton

University,” Majerus said. “We are also going to face the University of

Windsor and the University of Western Ontario, two teams the University of

Kentucky played last year on its Canadian trip. All three teams are

extraordinarily coached by Chris Oliver (Carleton), Dave Smart (Windsor) and

    Brad Campbell (Western Ontario).

Anything out there regarding Earl and Rammer making the trip as well?

  3. I don't think there is a chance in hell that RM extends his contract. The best that we can hope for is that he has 2 good seasons and sets our team up for future success (good talent, good coaches, good pipeline of recruits). If he does that, then I think his tenure can be considered a success.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if he decided to stick around a few more years. With his mother passing and him finally getting his program running (hopefully), he may have more incentive to stick around. I mean...what else is he gonna do? He loves ball. He loves coaching. Seems to me that he really likes STL. Maybe with a little success, his job will get easier and he'll stick around for 2-3 more years. A long shot, but circumstances change...
  4. hahahaha whoops, on the mobile version of the board, it doesn't show the subtopic (that i know of), so i didn't see the john manning part. i was like who the ###### is this old codger talking about!?!? and i was drunk and feisty! my apologies, i'm the ###### on this one. :D

I was in the same boat last night when reading it on my phone. what the hell is this guy talking about?! It made a lot more sense when I saw the sub topic on my laptop.

Just want to thank everybody for the analysis. Although i'm not really responding, I'm checking the board like it's mid-season. great stuff!

  5. Some of the people closest to Willie have consistently provided him with bad advice.

Part of me feels sorry for Willie...primarily based on this. I'm not sure if I would have been successful had I not had the two people at home constantly pointing me in the right direction. But...

The kid had every opportunity to overcome it. Despite everything that happened, SLU gave him a second change and said...just prove you can be a student. We'll forget the multiple transgressions you've had...just show you belong at this university. After less than 3 months of taking what I assume to be the easiest classes offered at the U, he hung it up. You can lead a horse to water, but can't make him drink.

My advice? Get your head out of your ass, Willie. For every 1 person with your skills in the NBA, there are 50 who never make it. Decide which one you want to be, get rid of your undeserved arrogance, and get to work.

  6. I think we understand why the other schools are after him. The point is what else has SLU done since his release. You don't fall from second choice to completely off the table.

Sure you can. Happens all the time to the Bills. We lost our assistant coach. He decomitted from an ACC school. He had an entire season to showcase his growth. We're probably just another school that gets lost in the bright lights of the BCS. Too bad though. I really think he could have been a star and may be our best/most athletic big man from day one.
  7. The only interest thing about this post is I've seen Meanstreets play several times...and even they were in Stl recently foer a tourney...yet I haven't seen "Heard this blog" at any of those events.

Not a single new thing in this story.

Not sure I understand this hostility. Do you write articles for Billiken fans? Is he a competitor of yours? Even if they aggregate all the articles across the web and rewrite them with a Billiken slant, that is good by me. When you write things like the above, it kinda makes you sound pathetic seeing as nobody on this board knows your identity. Might as well start asking HTB about his paystubs...

  8. Is it just me but is anyone else concerned how long it has taken to find a new assistant coach, regardless of whether he is a recruiter/X and O/associate/assistant/whatever?

A team needs a full complement of bodies to work with the team in off season stuff plus develop relationships with the young kids coming up the ranks as recruits.

    Let's get with it, Bills!

    mhg

I'm not worried about the assistant...i'm worried we haven't signed anybody during the spring yet. At any point in time, i'm sure you could find hundreds of assistant coaches who want to work with a legend like Rick. Finding 18 year olds who want to play for him is a different story.
  9. total treys each made the last year they played. They both will come in healthy. I have to think neither of these guys is a pass first Cassity type of guard. However, RL, CE and DE should be open more often with JB and KM making close to 40% of their

attempts. CE you could believe his freshman totals but remember he had shoulder, arm problems every game we played in the CBI He will return like a Tommy John surgery and shoot 35% or better not the 30% barely we saw this year.

If we can make shots this is going to be a lot more fun than the ugly basketball days.

Live by the 3 and die by the 3. I've said it once and I'll say it again, unless we can find a consistent inside presence, I don't feel we can reach our full potential. I was yelling at the screen all night last night for Butler to stop jacking up three's (not that they would have had a lot of luck inside, but that's besides the point...). We NEED to have somebody that can score with his back to the basket. I feel like 1-3 can hang with anybody in the country, but our post presence will hold us back next year.
  10. its a $ issue as far as the web feed goes...

I don't buy that. Streaming the feed that is already recorded and produced in the stadium would most likely require minimal changes to the technical infrastructure. I would imagine the bulk of the load is placed on CBSCS servers anyway, so what is it that is so pricey? Considering the lack of consistency in even remembering to turn the camera on on-time, I stand behind my initial assessment.
  11. I was thinking about this the other day then saw it posted on the frontpage and it reminded me.

SLU disseminates these highlight videos after the game, shot by a staffer with a flipcam underneath our basket. Horrible views of the highlights ensue, but at least it's something.

Why do they do this? The arena has manned cameras all over the place at every game. During games they have replays with different views of the court and of much better quality. The games are shown on the monitors at the concession stands using cameras from all over the arena. The footage is there.

Why doesn't SLU splice together footage from the Arena cameras and make a decent highlight package of each game and then disseminate that on their site. They run the cameras anyway, it is their arena. They have the footage, it is played on the 4 big screens. Why don't they put that on the site? How hard could it be?

Meanwhile they offer these bush highlight films shot on what could be someones phone?

Same reason they use a single webcam to shoot the game instead of these same cameras. Whoever is running this thing isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
  12. It's about time we have a Mickey Dee's All-American.

Was getting sick and tired of Brad's recruiting of Jack-in-the-Box All Americans.

    I'm lovin it.

Soderberg had several recruits that were nominated. Not saying you can compare the two on recruiting results, but I distinctly remember seeing some of Soderberg's names on the list...
  13. I have a little tradition that I started a while back, but I plan on watching "Groundhog Day" tonight after work. It's the only day of the year I watch the movie, which I believe to be Harold Ramis' finest hour. Bill Murray is exceptional and even Chris Elliot shines.

Just wondering what the board thinks of the movie and of Groundhog's Day in general. Go Bills, Go Phil.

    Metz

Awesome movie, but I'm a huge Bill Murray fan.
  14. Majerus himself said there were three major problems with Cody this season:

    1. Lingering, bizarre illnesses that he can't shake.

    2. Fell in love and seems more interested in girlfriend.

    3. Doesn't have Mitchell and Reed to open up the offensive floor for him and create shots for him.

As long as #1 doesn't persist and #2 seems to be something that improves with time as he figures out a balance, #3 is the one that we'll actually notice next season. So he's had three big reasons for his sophomore slump, all of which will either not be factors next year or will be more under control. Cody is going to be fine.

I agree with this but also think there is/was a bit of a mental limitation with him (which could be said for most of the team). When he gets over his own perceived limitations, watch out!
  15. You want Willie and Rob on the floor at the same time. By letting Rob pick and pop around the 3 point line forces a large defender outside the lane giving Willie room to work one on one. If the double comes, Kick it out to Rob for the three. Pick your poison, it's gonna be fun.

I could work with that, for sure. Putting Rob in will lower the athleticism, but increase our fire power. Agree...pick your poison.
  16. We've all been down on CE this season, but I think he's starting to come around and could become an A-10 first or second teamer next year. He's starting to rebound (a MUST for a guy his size). He found his shot and has even gotten a few blocks this season. His legs seem to be coming back and is playing more like a man than a timid sophomore. I like what we're seeing out of Cody and am optimistic about the future.

I think a starting five next year of Willie, Corey (two athletic bigs), Cody as a 3, Kyle as the two and Kwamain as the 1 would be ridiculous. Then coming off the bench, we essentially lose nothing except at the 5 spot.
